Rose Chastain was my Grandmother. I am the son of her younger son (Jack Randall Pickens). Her sister Jewel (Kean) was mother to my Dad's first cousin Ted. I am in contact with him and his sons.
I'm getting into this genealogy thing, and I'd appreciate help in putting together a good family tree.
Email me directly at jonrpick(a)yahoo.com please.
Thanks,
Jon Randall Pickens
Jon,
I find John L. Chastain married Martha Anne Durham on 18 August 1907. He
was born on April 4, 1881 in Hall County, GA and died on 14 November 1951.
He is buried in Town Creek Cemetery, Dekalb County, GA. His father was
William Henry Chastain and mother was Georgia Ann Tanner, his second wife.
John had 3 siblings, Eula Lee, Tilton Perino and Marion Zachariah Chastain.
Any input you might have as to John's family would be of great help to our
continuing effords.
I will send you more in a day or so. I have to get off to bed right now to
make sure I get up in time for work tomorrow.
The above information comes from Pierre Chastain and his Descendants - Vol.
2, pg. 239.
The Pierre Chastain Family Reunion for 2007 will be held in Richmond, VA on
Sept. 20 thru 23, 2007. I have an interesting program for all who attend
that includes a tour of the Virginia Historical Society and visits to Pierre
Chastain's grave. Check the PCFA Web Page for further information in the
future as this is still a work in progress.

Rose Chastain married Homer Pickens. "Randall" was just the middle name my
grandmother chose for my father's middle name. "Jack Randall" was an actor
that she was fond of, so Dad became Jack Randall Pickens.
Rose was born 8.29.1916 in Dekalb County Alabama, and died 11.9.1990. I
can't recall whether she died in Tennessee or Alabama. We had moved her up
to TN for a while before she died, but I know we buried her in AL alongside
her sister Jewel Chastain Kean.
Her father was John Leroy Chastain, and her mother was Martha Annie Durham.
Amazingly, I've found all this info just today through Google searches. I
even found a picture online at the following link:
http://www.ancientfaces.com/research/photo/370690
The man on the right in the picture is John Chastain. I haven't seen a
picture of him before, but not surprisingly, he looks more like my
grandmother and her sisters than the others in the photo. I hadn't heard
the name "Tanner" used until today...
Thanks for the info, I went to the PCFA website... looks good. When is the
32nd reunion?

Jon,
There are a number of folks at the PCFA who will help you with genealogy.
One of the things that will help them is a little more information.
Who was Rose Chastain's husband? What was her place of birth and death and
dates? I assume Rose's maiden name was Chastain and that her husbands
surname was Randall. Do you know the name of Rose's father and mother and
where they lived.
Give me any information you have and I will check Pierre Chastain -The First
Five Generations Vol. 1 and the sixth generation in Vol. 2 for you.
Post the information on the Chastain Roots Web mailing list so others can
help.
