I have an obituary for a woman named Eliza Chastain (1876-1955) who married
Franklin Lawrence Howard (1872-1930). The obit states her parents were " John
and Chaney Chastain". I do not find this Eliza Chastain on the 1880 census.
According to the Old Pendleton Database the above people listed in the census
were John Abner Chastain s/o Abner and Temperence Allen Chastain. The wife
listed was a Charrie Landreth. I did not find any other John and Charrie / Chaney
listed in any other census that could be this Eliza's parents. I thought that
maybe she was the daughter of John D. but he would have been too young. Then I
thought that maybe she was actually the Elizabeth listed as the daughter but
that woman was born ca 1857 and the one I am searching was supposedly born in
1876 so that is a twenty year difference. Can anyone shed any light on this or
tell me what happened to the girls Mary and Sarah ? I would appreciate any
help or insight into this brickwall.
