Hi Dianna,
Do you know anything more? I have checked Vol 1 &
2 of Pierre Chastain and Descendants and nothing for
your Josephus. Where did he live? Also, nee means
"born as" or "formarly known as" (often used to
indicate a woman's maiden name, for example).

Gwen,
My husband's grandmother was a Chastine (later they changed it to
Chastain because a teacher told one of her children "that Chastine was not the way
to spell Chastain." "Granny" did not believe in knowing about one's family
and I am having a VERY difficult time trying to trace them. On all of the
death certificates that she had to answer, she put DK for mother father, place
of birth, etc. I am "certain" that she did this on purpose. One of her
daughters told me a long time ago that Granny thought that her father was
illegitimate and that this was the reason she was so secretive. Could you help me
out? She was the daughter of Josephus Chastine (nee, 8-24-1865) and
Josephine Gray (nee, 1-5-1880). Dianna

In the book "Pierre Chastain and His Descendents" Volume I has this to say
regarding Pierre Chastain, Jr.
Pierre Chastain Jr. son of Pierre Chastain and Anne Soblet, was born @
1707, Manakin Town, Henrico County (in an area that became Goochland County
1728), Virginia. He died after 1775 probably in Virginia. Pierre first
became tithable in household of his father in 1725. (King William Parish
Vestry Book in VMHB.12:369) Proof of Pierre Chastains,Jr's wife was never
found but possibly married Mildred "Middy" Archer in Virginia. She was born
n Virginia according to records of Nora Young Ferguson (now deceased) There
is more names that his wife could have been 2 other women named Mildred. Do
you have the Chastain Book? Is this the Pierre Chastain, Jr. you wrote
about in your recent posting. As far as the DAR it would be doubtful if you
could get in on them Hope this helps a little. Perhaps someone else on the
Chastain line has more on this person but I don't think anyone has gotten in
on Pierre Chastain that was in the Rev. War except John the older child of
Peter Chastain (not, Jr.) and his first wife.

JOHNS, Mrs. I. (CHASTAIN) [from Rural Route No. 2] Mrs. I. Johns died
at the home of her brother, John Chastain, near Centerton[, Arkansas]
July 29th at 1:30 o'clock a.m. and was buried at the Barren cemetery
at 4 o'clock p.m. where the funeral was preached by Rev. J. W. West
of Gravette[, Arkansas]. She was a consistent member of the Baptist
church and had been since childhood. She came here from Kentucky in
1901. She had suffered long but was patient through it all. She will
be sadly missed and the sympathy of all is extended to the bereaved
relatives. [Benton County Democrat 8/2/1906]

My name is Cecil Chastain and I recently suffered identify theft over the internet. Some of my emails, etc, were stolen.
Yes I am french and bi-lingual but I did not post the message I just noticed after receiving a phone call from a friend alerting me to the message.
I don't care if you speak Latin, Hebrew, Slovic, Italian, etc. I do but it's required in my business. Sorry if the person stepped on "tender toes".
The problem has been straightened out I hope insofar as someone stealing your identify. I have blockers up the 'wadzu now.
Sorry, Sorry, Sorry!
