Hi Elaner; Sorry I have to write you on the line but will make it short.
First I lost your address when my computer crashed several years ago., My new
address is _rctaht(a)verizon.net_ (mailto:rctaht@verizon.net) . Send me an
e-mail and your present address and I will catch you up and try to answer your
questions. So happy to hear from you again. Rose Chastain Taylor
Rose,
I saw your message about Cecil and I realized you were the Rose Chastain I
used to correspond with via email. We corresponded a long time about our
common ancestors in the Seffner area. I hope you are well and happy. I recently
moved to Wilmington, NC to be near my daughter. I live in an
independent-living retirement apartment and I'm very happy here. I was tired of the
terrible traffic in Marietta and being part of such a huge metropolis as metro
Atlanta.
Wilmington is a nice relatively quiet medium sized town and I'm loving it.
As you may remember, my daughter was a traveling nurse when I knew you
(during the time period after the Pierre Chastain Assoc. met in Thomasville), but
she decided to settle down and buy a house. She had traveled here a couple of
times, liked it and chose it as the place she wanted to live. So after a
couple of years, I decided to follow her here.
Do you have any new discoveries in the Chastain and related lines? I
haven't done anything much for about a year. When I decided to come here I went
through months of "breaking up housekeeping", dividing stuff up and finally
moving, unpacking and finally now I am settled and I'm ready to start my
research again. Actually, I'm starting a family scrapbook combining pictures and
written family history. I have some Chastain pictures from the Seffner time,
one or two of which I can't identify. Later when I get started on that phase
I will send you a printed copy of them to see if you can identify them. If
they are in your line I will give them to you.
Besides you, the only others from that area that I knew were George Black
and Norman Chastain. Tell me what you know of them. I think you have a new
email address. I've made the correction in my address book. Let me hear from
you.
Warm regards,
Eleanor Griffies (same email address)
Cecil; Are you the Cecil Chastain that is my cousin and used to visit my
family when we lived in Plant City. I did not have your e-mail address so I am
replying to the line. Could you send me an e-mail at _rctaht(a)verizon.net_
(mailto:rctaht@verizon.net) as I would like to check out some Chastain
geneology with you. Rose Chastain Taylor

I have an ancestor named Hanna or Hannah who was a daughter of Joseph C. Chastain and a direct decendant of Elijah Chastain. She would have been from the wife of Joseph who was Amanda Oliver.
If you have anything to share please do and so will I.

I am trying to find information about Judith Chastain who lived in Manakin Town either Powhatan or Goochland Virginia in the 1700's.
She supposedly married Stephen Pankey (Eitenne Panetier).

Carol, do you have exact dates and times for the meeting?
Is it in the library, which to my memory, is next to the old church?
What will the discussions be about?
Will anything else be going on that week?
Are any dates possible that the owners of my ancestor's home (Dr. Pierre)
allows descendants to tour and photograph home?
Thanks, Jo Chastain

There are a number of Judith Chastains in files in the research library of
the Manakin Huguenot Society in Midlothian, Virginia, on the edge of Richmond.
Our Virginia Branch meeting is there at the end of April, and we'd love to
see all you Chastains. The Society is for all the descendants of French
Protestants who were in Virginia prior to 1786. (They themselves didn't use the
word "Huguenot.")
The library will be open after the meeting. Or you can make an appointment
with our library assistant to do research, one on one. We archive family
histories to be available to future generations. Our web site has details:

I follow your research with great personal interest. My Manakin ancestor
was Mathieu Agee, and his mother's name was Judith Chastain. I would love to
know more about her.

There is a note in the book, "Pierre Chastain and His Descendants" that
George Edward Pankey in "Descendants of John Pankey of Manakintown Virginia,
Volume 1" said that Judith Chastain may have been the wife of Stephen
Pankey, however, the information was not proved and a number of "Judiths" of
other families were also mentioned as possibly wife of Stephen Pankey. The
Chastain book says that Judith married Gille Ballew, with whom she had Peter
Ballew about 1729. She also had a son, William, prior to Peter, and a son,
Thomas, after Peter. These two children are thought to be illegitimate
children of Thomas Walker. Judith Chastain Ballew was born about 1703 and
died between 1764 and 1785 in Lucy's Springs, Chesterfield County, Virginia.
