Hello,
Perhaps I can shed some light on the James P. Chastain on p. 240, Vol. II,
Pierre Chastain and His Descendants.
According to my original family group sheet in my files on James P.
Chastain7, the spelling of his wife's name was PIERCE and not Price. Since at the
time the book was written we did not have a record of any children of James
P.(erino) Chastain and Ella Pierce, the children were not carried on to the next
generation.
According to the information we had from Rollo Stovall and Avilla
Farnsworth, James P.
Chastain's parents were Elias Elrod Chastain and Malinda J. Bryant. Sources
given by W. McCollum indicated Elias Elrod Chastain's wife was Melinda Jane
Porter. Perhaps Bryant was Melinda's name from a previous marriage, and her
maiden name was Porter. As to the parentage of Elias Elrod Chastain, both
sources listed his parents as William C. Chastain and Nancy Mayfield.
I have no record of a Elias Elrod Chastain, Sr. and his wife Harriet
Elziabeth McCrary.
Sincerely,
Robert Leishman
PCFA Historian

Hi Tim:
I apologize, I gave you a wrong spelling of Carrie Ella Dessa Pierce CHASTAIN. My great grandmother's maiden name was PIERCE not Pearce.
Sorry for the wrong spelling.
Has any one heard if the CD of the out of print "Little Otter to Lost
River" is available yet?? I know that they were still working on it about 4
years ago, but I've not heard anything more about it since then.
Dee in FL (soon to be "on the road" again for 5 to 6 months)
In the April 19, 1910 census of Maplesville, Chilton County, Alabama Ella Chastain was enumerated as a 27 year old head of household in her first marriage, which suggests she was separated, but not yet divorced, from James P. Chastain. Maude M was 10 years old and Kimsey was 7. The family lived on a farm on the Maplesville/Centerville Road and Emma Maness, a 57 year old widow, boarded in the household and worked on the farm.

My test posting to the Chastain site seems to have worked fine, so I don't know what happened to the earlier ones...here's the pertinent information:
James Chastain, born June 1874, and his wife of 2 years, Ella, born November 1882, appeared in the June 26, 1900 census of the Cross Roads District of Cherokee County, Georgia. They had one daughter, Manda/Maude, born November 1899. That same census year James' parents, Elias and Malinda J (Porter) Chastain, lived in the Fork District of Hall County, Georgia. His brothers Lloyd and Elmer were still in the household. He also had an older brother, Madison, who was out of the household.
Georgia marriage records confirm that James Perino Chastain married Ella Pierce in Hall County on May 31, 1898.
On-line user-contributed lineages show that Elias Elrod Chastain and Malinda Jane Porter were James' parents. The same sources show his grandparents to have been Elias Elrod Chastain and Harriet Elizabeth McCrary. This differs from the the information about his grandparents contained in the book about Pierre Chastain's descendants. Since the book was published by the Pierre Chastain Family Association, and their genealogist, Gerry Buland, was meticulous about her sources, I would question the on-line information that both his father and grandfather were named Elias Elrod.
Kimsey T. Chastain (Maude's brother) was born July 21, 1902, probably in Cherokee County, Georgia, and died December 16, 1998 in Columbus, Muscogee County, Georgia (Georgia death records and the Social Security Death Index). He married Estelle Rogers when he was 21 and she was 16. In 1930 they lived in Carltersville, Bartow County, Georgia and had as on Frank, age 5. I did some census and family tree research and this appears to be the right family.
The June 26, 1900 census of the Cross Roads District of Cherokee County Georgia shows the following:
James Chastain, born June 1874 in Georgia, farmer, married 2 years
Ella, born November 1882, marrried 2 years, had one child, one child living
Manda/Maude (writing unclear), born November 1899, age 6 months.
Georgia marriage records on-line show that James Perino Chastain married Ella Pierce on May 31, 1898.
James' parents were Elias Elrod Chastain and Melinda Jane Porter. Grandparents were Elias Elrod Chastain and Harriet Elizabeth McCrary.
James had brothers Madison, Lloyd, Elmer and John. Elmer, born May 1880, was in his parents' household in 1900 in Hall County, Georgia. His brother Lloyd, was also in the household, with his wife Estella and daughter, Judie.

You didn't list any dates or places. That is a must in wanting others to help you. I descend from William & Sarah (Barnett) Chastain and their daughter, Elizabeth Chastain, b. 1778 in VA who married James Manning, b. 1772 in VA. They died in Washington Co., IN in the 1820's. I have many James Chastain's but no James Perino Chastain. I'm sorry that I can't help you without dates and places.

James Wilson Chastain of Moores Hill, Indiana was killed December 18, 1944, in the South Pacific during World ar II. He is officially listed as missing or buried at sea. His name appears on the “Tablets of the Missing” at the Manila American Cemetery in the Philippines. We are seeking information regarding his military and civilian life.
I am a retired Hoosier from Madison County residing in the Philippines with my Filipino wife. We are seeking family and military information about servicemen from your county killed in the South Pacific during World War II. There are 17,206 Americans buried here and thousands more that are missing or buried at sea and are honored on the “Tablets of the Missing”. Please visit our website to see the beautiful memorial located in Manila, Philippines.
http://fizkid.tripod.com/
My wife and I visited the cemetery as visitors and left with a mission in our heart. We have been taking photographs of the graves of the Indiana servicemen buried here and have been uniting them (at no charge) with their family members in Indiana and across the United States. To receive the photo of your family member, neighbor or friend all you need is a working email address. We do not send them to regular mailing addresses due to the costs. Please help us find the families of the men that might still be living. Our project is only successful because of teamwork and your contributions are noted on our website. If you wish to help us we will be pleased to add your name to our ACKNOWLEDGMENT page on the website. The obituaries usually did not appear till to three months after the death date.
If you are not a genealogist you can help by just picking up the telephone directory and find someone with the same last name and give them a call. It has worked many times for us.
