Your family may be the one listed on page 251 of Pierre Chastain and His Descendants, vol. 2. Mary Jane Chastain, born January 6, 1848 in Henry County, Kentucky; married William Perry Hobson in Indiana; died in Kansas. Parents are George Chastain, died before 1860 (6th generation descendant of Pierre) and his second wife, Sarah Ann Thompson. In the 1860 census for Pike Township/City, Marion Co., IN there is a Mary J. Chastain, age 12, born KY living in the household of a Richard Hill, age 30, occupation - Miller, wife Catherine age 20, born IN and their dau Ida age 1, born IN. In the same household is a Thomas Chastain, age 33, born KY, occupation- Mill Hand.
Mary Jane is my great grandmother and I believe that she moved to IN from KY to stay with family following the death of her father, George Chastain, in 1859. However, I've been unable to figure out exactly what relationship Thomas Chastain was to her.
Is anybody familiar with him?
I am looking for information on Angell Chastain (1690-1735) who
married John Panetier (John Pankey) as well as, I believe, Peter Depp.
She and her husband(s) were among the first settlers in Manakin Town,
Virginia in the early 1700's.
I believe that her father was Stephen Chastain.
I also have Judith Chastain listed as being married to Etienne Panetier
(Stephen Pankey).
As I am just starting my search on this family any information and/or
suggestions on where to find information on this family will be greatly
appreciated.
