Sandi Gorin posts these church minutes on her South-Central Kentucky list
and I give her all the credit and thanks.
Notice the John Chasteen named below as Moderator. Does he fit in anybody's
family? My Chastain's were in Bath County, Kentucky at one time. This
church was in Edmonson County, KY.
Hope it helps someone!

I have a Levi Chastain, born April 28, 1859 in Lawrence Co., Mo. He may have died c1875. He was the son of Francis Marion Chastain and Sarah Margaret Downing.
Story goes that Levi left home when he was 16 and was never heard from again. I wonder if anyone out there knows what happened to Levi after he left Lawrence Co., MO? Just curious.
Thanks.

It appears that this is your Richard Chastain in 1870:
September 25, 1870 census of McKinney, Collin County, Texas
Page 44
Household 294
Richard Chastain, teamster, age 27, born in Mississippi, property valued at
$450.00
Elisabeth, keeping house, age 20, born in Texas
This information is consistent with family information about Elijah
Chastain
Junior and Rhoda Sarton, who moved from Walker County, Georgia to Tishomingo
County, Missippi sometime between the 1840 and 1850 censuses. The
information comes from the book "Pierre Chastain and his Descendants, Volume
1." It shows Richard M. Chastain was born in 1842, but has no more
information about him.
Despite the middle initial, this seems to be the same family in 1880:
June 16, 1880 census of Precinct 1, Hood County, Texas
ED 141, page 32D
Household 266
Richard J. Chastain, 37, farmer, born in Mississippi, father born in
Mississippi, mother born in Georgia
Elisabeth, 30, keeping house, born in Texas, father born in Illinois, mother
born in Georgia
Louisa, 7, born in Texas
William L, 5, born in Texas
Renna F. 3, male, born in Texas
Mary C., 1, born in Texas
W. McCollum
