Eddie Grace Chastain
Angels descended from the Heavens to gently guide Eddie Grace Chastain to
her final resting place on Tuesday, July 13, 2004, at the age of 79.
Surrounded by her four loving daughters and three granddaughters, her
valiant life peacefully ended at home after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born Dec. 31, 1924, in Lavonia, Ga., Mrs. Chastain immediately began making
her mark on those around her. In 1942, she won the heart of Homer George
Chastain. He preceded her in death in 1994 after a devoted 51-year marriage.
Their adoration for one another was celebrated by the gift of four beautiful
daughters.
Family and the church were Mrs. Chastain's two primary priorities. It was
imperative to her to share the gospel with all she met, never hesitating to
share her strong belief in God. Often called a social butterfly, strangers
were not a part of life no matter the situation. She worshipped her Lord at
Longview Metro Church, where she was an active member of the church
community.
Mrs. Chastain was also preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Gracie
Belle Mason; two brothers, Charles and Clarence Mason; and two
grandchildren, Joseph Smith and Kendra Klause.
Survivors include one sister, Mattie Thomas of Longview; one brother,
Richard Mason of Commerce, Ga.; four daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy and
Dan McGarvey of Houston, Brenda and Ron Kube of Glen Carbon, Ill., Vicky and
Bill Smith of Longview and Kristi and Bruce McGaugh of Houston; seven
grandchildren, John McGarvey and his wife, Jane, and Dawn Lee and her
husband, Bobby, all of Houston, Wendy Sweetman and her husband, Paul, of
Myrtle Beach, S.C., Greg McGarvey and his wife, Michele, of Houston, Kim
White of Glen Carbon, Ill., Christy Jarrett and her husband, Ben, of
Hallsville and Olivia McGaugh of Houston; and seven great-grandchildren,
Robert, Christopher and Krystel Lee of Houston, Daniel-Lane McGarvey of
Houston, Taylor and Sidney White of Glen Carbon, Ill., and Noah Jarrett of
Hallsville.
Pallbearers will be David and Doyle Thomas, John and Greg McGarvey, Bobby
Lee and Ben Jarrett.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 17, at Longview Metro Church
with the Rev. Rob Parsons, the Rev. Jerry Collum and the Rev. C.J. Michel
officiating. Burial will be in Memory Park Cemetery.
The family will receive family and friends at 6 p.m. Friday, July 16, at
Welch Funeral and Memorial Center, 4619 Judson Road.

Patricia, and other Chastain researchers;
I am looking for the place and date of the marriage of Rainey and Sarah Butler Chastain's daughter Adelia Wisdom Chastain to William Henry Simmons. I know it would have been about 1878.
I am writing a biography of William, my GGGF, and this is an important missing piece of information.
