This is Obit 12 in a series I will be posting online. These obituary columns,
cut from newspapers of the time period, were found pasted in an ancient
dust-covered book at a yard sale I attended in Louisville KY. I'm posting them
verbatim in the hopes they will benefit others. I have no further information and
have no connection to any of these names. I have no information about which
newspapers the original columns were in or the year of publication.
Obit 12: Margaret Emily (Chastain) MILLER, 1904, KY
Obituary
Margaret Emily CHASTAIN was born in Logan County, Kentucky, September 4,
1834, was married to Samuel D. MILLER in Warren county, Kentucky, October 24,
1853.. They came to Benton County in the fall of 1859 and settled near this
place, and have lived in and around Lincoln for forty-five years.
Sister MILLER professed religion in 1852; joined the M. E. Church, South,
in 1854. For over fifty years she has been a consistent Christian and
follower of her blessed Lord. After seventy years in this life and fifty-two years
in the service of God she has stacked her arms in the church militant and
joined the church triumphant. After a long siege of sickness and suffering, on
September 9, 1904, she quietly breathed her last and peacefully passed over the
river of death until her eternal reward.
She leaves an aged companion, one son, a number of relatives and many
friends to mourn her departure. But we sorrow not as those who have no hope.
Like many of us she loved to live; but when the time came she was ready to die.
The writer delivered her funeral discourse to a large concourse of
sorrowing friends, and we laid her to rest in the Lincoln cemetery to await the
resurrection, when both soul and body shall be re-united, and we shall meet her
again in our Father’s house on high, where parting shall be no more and where
congregations ne’er break up.
"O how sweet it will be in that beautiful land,
So free from all sorrow and pain,
With songs on our lips and with harps in our hands
To meet one another again!"

I was doing some research and discovered that Blassingame is listed in Washington County, GA as late as the 1820 Census. He is listed as Blas Chastien, and he lists himself, one female 26 to 45, 3 male children under 10, and one female child between 10 and 16. That census also lists Peter Chastien and Ramy (Renny) Chastien as living in Washington County, GA in 1820.
I found him in the Jackson County, Florida Territory census for 1830 as Blasingame Chastine (Chastine is difficult to read, so it might be Chastien). At any rate, he lists himself, plus, 3 male children 5 to 10, 2 male children 15 to 20, 1 female child 5 to 10, 1 female 20 to 30, and 1 female 40 to 50.
Blasingame was a fairly common given name in the South Carolina area right after the Revolutionary War - I believe there was a Rev. War Hero with the last name of Blasingame that fought in or near the Nineth-Six District of South Carolina.

I am descended from Renny Chastain( b 1792) through his son John Martin Chastain > Thomas Wright Chastain > Thomas Mack Chastain > James Stanton Chastain(my father), all of whom lived in the Thomas Co.GA area most of their lives. However, Renny Chastain was born in Washington Co Ga, one of the children of Peter Chastain (REV soldier) and his second wife, Elizabeth Howle. Peter was born in VA in 1736. but moved to SC with his father Rane Chastain, son of Pierre Chastain the immigrant who migrated to VA in 1700. Renny had several brothers,William,James,Peter, Thomas M. and Blasingame. I am interested in the brother, Blasingame who moved from Washington Co. GA about 1815 to Taylor Co, FL. With a name that unusual, someone should have heard of him. He had children. Does anyone know anything about him?
