I'm trying to do some research and I'm stuck. I've got Pleasant Chastain son of George William Chastain (I was told that he was a preacher) not sure on this but I think his wife's name was Nancy. They had 3 sons Wash, Jim, and Pleasant, and 1 daughter Josie. I know Pleasant was married to Sarah Jane McVey(sp) and that they had 2 boys Frank (my husbands ggrandfather), and George, and 4 daughters Millie, Berthie, Annie and Minnie. Also Pleasant remarried a very young girl named Frances Long after the death of his wife. I know that most of the family lived in Missouri but this is about all I can find. If anyone can help that would be great. You can email me at sunsetraven(a)yahoo.com. Thank you for any help.

Thank you for adding this information. I sure hope it will be of some help to others.
I am descended from Elizabeth Chastain, daughter of William and Sary/Sarah (Barnett) Chastain that married James Manning. Elizabeth was born 1778 in VA and James was born 1772 in VA. Can't get any information about an accurate marriage date. They have them mixed up with an Elizabeth Riley and James Manning that were married 1797 in Washington Co., KY.
James Manning and Elizabeth Chastain had several children and the one I descend from is John Manning and Lovica/Levicy Jane Collier>Absolom Monroe Manning and Clarissa Jamison Hinton>Arthur Augustus Manning and Pirley Andrew West>Eva Ruth Manning and Everett S Kendrick>Edith Pearl Kendrick. Eva Ruth Manning-Kendrick d. 27 Jan 1995 of cancer in Kittitas Co., WA.

I believe I descend from a Estinne Chastain via my Mitchell line. Is there a
publication or other source that shows the descendants of Estinne Chastain?
I have a Mitchell ancestor with a given first name of Shatteen born in 1802 in
Amelia County VA. I believe his first name may been derived from Chastain.
There is no know connection to the Pierre Chastain branch. Ron Mitchell,

Edith,
I believe another casualty at Vicksburg was John Denton Chastain, 2nd. Lt., GA 41st., Co. C. He was wounded and captured. The Union Army released him and he returned home to recuperate. I don't know if his return was to Pickens, SC. While home, the men in his unit elected him to 1st. Lt. He succumed to his wounds before he could return to duty.
I believe John was the son of Maxwell Denton Chastain and Sarah Malinda Robinson, but have no solid proof. Maxwell did have a son named John Denton and leaves money to his John Denton Jr, his grandson, in his will.
Maxwell had a second son, 1st. Lt. Peter Robinson Chastain. Peter R. Chastain, a member of GA 41st., Co. C, sucummed to pnuemonia during the Battle of Corinth on 7 June 1862 and died at a confederate hospital located at Lauderdales Springs, MS. He is buried there in an unmarked grave. As with John D. Chastain, Maxwell left money to Peter's heirs in his will.
While in Pickens several months ago, I found Peter R's name on a war memorial located behind the courthouse. I find this interesting because Peter was living in GA with his family when he joined the Confederate Army. John D. Chastain's name is not on this monument and I also find this to be an interesting fact.
Maxwell Denton Chastain was the son of Blind John Chastain and the grandson of John "Ten Shilling Bell" Chastain.
I'm looking for information on Alice Chastain, daughter of George & Sarah
(HAVILAND) CHASTAIN. I know George & Sarah lived and died in Spring Valley
Twp, Gregory Co., SD. They were on the 1920 and 1930 census.
Alice who married a William (Bill) DALE, was a rural school teacher on the
1930 census. I've heard she moved to North Dakota after the death of her
parents, but this isn't confirmed. I would love to find anything on Alice
and her descendents.
Thank you for any and all help.

I believe I descend from a Estinne Chastain. Somewhere along the line is a Judith Bellomy Chastain, Ann Soblet, Jean Laurent are some of the names i have found in my search from others. Then it comes down to the Logan family, a Sarah Elizabeth Logan married James Fields, these are my great great grandparents. Would like some help if you can. I may be a little mixed up as my files on my computer have been lost, and my notes aren't handy. I was looking on the world wide family tree and found this info for your site. It looks good!
Thank you for any help you might be able to give me

What I would like to know has anyone found anything about James Manning and Elizabeth Chastain. She is according to some records I have found the daughter of William and Sary/Sarah (Barnett) Chastain. James Manning was born 1772 in VA and Elizabeth Chastain was born 1778 in VA. I really need some documentations on their marriage as well as many other things. I can not go back any further on my Manning side than James Manning. Was he English or Irish.
I live in Burkesville, Cumberland Co., KY and would like to plan a trip to VA myself to do some research but I am the caregiver for my father who is 90 years old. His name is Everett S Kendrick, b. 20 Aug 1912 in Hilliard, Spokane Co., WA.
The Chastain-Manning is on my mothers side. Backwards from my mother is Eva Ruth Manning-Kendrick, b. 21 Dec 1917 in Yakima Co., WA, d. 27 Jan 1995 in Cle Elum, Kittitas Co., WA, buried in Evergreen-Washelli Cemetery, Seattle, King Co., WA, her father was Arthur Augustus Manning, b. 1870 in Lane Co., OR, d. 1923 Tacoma, Pierce Co., WA, his father was Absolom Monroe Manning, b. 1823 in Washington Co., IN, d. ??, his father was John Manning, b. 1801 in VA, d. 1873 in Sonoma Co., CA, traveled with Marcus Whitman before 1850 on the Oregon Trail, his parents were James Manning and Elizabeth Chastain. If you want the female line for my Manning line let me know.
I would like to thank any one for their assistance in advance.

Hi JC,
My name is Dodie Roberts, and I am the Editor of "The Chestnut Tree", our quarterly publication. I was up at Thomasville this week checking on some courthouse information and visiting with Tim and Merlene Chastain, our Membership Chrm. and his wife. Tim drove my Dad and I out to Ocklocknee and some other sites around Thomasville and we just happened to come across the grave of CP and Trudie Chastain. I had my digital camera with me and took some photos and would be happy to send that to you if you would like to have them. Additionally, while we were looking at the books at the courthouse for our family line, we found your grandparents marriage license, so we made a copy. Can't always do things like this for folks, but since we were there and checking for ourselves, we thought we might be able to help you at the same time. Please let me know if this is something you would like to have and I will send them to you.
Hope this helps,

There is a brother to Joseph Rice Chastain, Calvin D. Chastain, who had at least a boy and a girl namely Nellie Chastain, born in 1877, m. William T. Miller in 1895 and a son, William Chastain b. 1878, m. Leona Grace and had a girl (name unknown) in 1904. There may have been more but this is the only records I have. This is in conjunction with Marilyn Dawson (my cousin). There is actually another Chastain, John D. Chastain, who we really think is a brother to Joseph Rice Chastain who has 4 kids named Alonzo b. 1860, Alice b. 1864, William S. b. 1867 and Ida b. 1868.
