Gerre has sent me the following and I would like to know if anybody out there has an answer to this. Thank you, Sarah
"It ies most interesting that you say you are descended from Peter, Jr.'s dau,
Magdelaine who married John Gevaudan. The only reference that we show for
this marrriage is "Virginia Genealogies" vol. III.
Do you have proof that this Magdelaine is indeed dau of Peter, Jr.? Most of
his children have only circumstantial evidence - especially the daus. I
would certainly like to know about this.
Gerre "

1. Nancy Ann Chasteen born 1819, South Carolina, (daughter of William Chastain and Annie Motes) died 4 Oct 1913, Macon Co., North Carolina. Refs:
1850 Census - Rabun Co., GA. The Court of Claims records state that Nancy married Mark Burrell. However, she is shown in the 1850 Census record as Nancy Chastain and with several Chastain children. Mark Burrell was married
to Huldah Denton. There has been no divorce record found and Hulda out lived Mark by several years. Copy of Fam. Bible of Nancy Chasteen furnished by Charles Robbins, Death Cert. for Nancy

Eli appears to be the same person as noted in 1880 census for Whitewater district of Oconee County, SC, same area that Nancy was recorded as residing in. The family is enumerated
as:

Here's the family of Eli's brother Mike Chasteen in the same census: Note there is a Monroe...
Chasteen Mike Head 37 1843 SC Oconee Whitewater
Chasteen T. Avaline Wife 36 1844 NC Oconee Whitewater

whoa, I think you all might have come up with my brick wall: Monroe Chasteen. I find him in the 1920 census in Etowah Co, AL. showing he is 48 which would make him born abt 1872, but it shows him born in GA. I am wondering if this is the same Monroe. Lou Cook
I've been updating the census records on my homepage this past week. I've only worked on GA so far but have gotten alot done. Before I mostly had just an index like but I've had the time to look up the records and put the information on my page. I'll work on other states as I have time. Hope the info helps someone that needs the info. If you've been to the page before and it doesn't show the changes just hit your refresh button and that should do it.
Please let me know of any errors and I'm sure I may have missed some so if you know of any I've missed please let me know so I can look them up. Some stuff is really annoying. For instance the index shows 3 families in Cass Co., GA for the 1830 census. But Cass Co. wasn't even formed until 1831 or so and I haven't found a census page for the County. I haven't been able to do 1850 or 1870 but will get to it when I can. Since I don't have indexes for 1880 and up I don't have much for those counties although I have access to the records. If anyone wants to see a family from those years up there if you will let me know county and page number I'll look it up and put it on.
To get to the census page just go to my home page www.angelfire.com/me/geneal and click on My Chastain Family, then scroll down to the bottom and click on Miscellaneous Chastain Records then click on whatever sort of records you want to see. As always submissions to be added on any of those pages are most welcome. Thanks.

On Saturday, February 2, 2002, I visited for the first time the grave of my
gggrandfather William Firth CHASTAIN. William Firth CHASTAIN b. March 10,
1823 d. August 16, 1873 is buried with his wife Martha Ann SKELTON b.
November 2, 1827 d. October 12, 1867. They are buried in a wooded area in
rural Clarke County, Alabama north of Jackson, Alabama.
I visited William Firth Chastain's gravesite with my Dad (last name
McClinton) and my Dad's cousin (last name Chastain). My Dad's cousin is the
one that showed my Dad and me where William Firth Chastain is buried. Dad's
cousin said that he didn't know if Martha Ann SKELTON was the Mother of
William Firth's sons from which we are descended. According to my Dad's
cousin, some of the children of William Firth Chastain were sons Oliver,
Elam, and Joe. (Joe's name was Joseph Julian.) Joe (Joseph Julian) is the
grandfather of my Dad and his cousin.
Dad's cousin said that Elam and Joe married McDonald sisters. The children
of Joe (Joseph Julian) not necessarily in birth order are Josie (female),
Bama (female), Dock L. (male- my Dad's cousin's father), Pearl Sybil (female
- my Dad's mother), Wheeler (male), Beanie (male), Bill (male), Jack (male),
and Henry (male).
Any information you might have about William Firth Chastain and his wife,
parents, siblings, children, etc., will be appreciated.
Thanks!
