a reunion is planned for august 11 at the pelzer.s.c. community center. it is
a combined reunion of the above families of benjimin franklin chastain and
john jacob cooley. many south greenville, s.c. chastains and cooleys have
already signed on. a large crowed is expected with many photos, old fork
shoals church records, also cedar shoals cemetary records. we will also have
the daventon church minutes, old land grants. we will miss frank ellison, but
expect other members of his family .the 540acres owned by rev. james
chastain we believe is the same property that his grandson james lived on.
this property is located at the corner of cooley bridge and beach springs
roads. ihave searched this property before but now have the help of other
chastains in the area and a land surveyor that might help.we will report any
new devlelopments. all chastains and cooleys are welcome.i am hoping that
some of the cooleys who have done very extensive research work will turn up
new developements.

When we assured you the Brown Books would definitely be available for
perusal at the Reunion, a number of inquiries came in asking, What are
the Brown Books?
Well, here is your answer. These large ledger size albums were started
in 1975 at the time the Pierre Chastain Family Association was founded.
The method of recording and keeping information was the same as the LDS
method at that time.
Every effort has been made to keep these books up to date.
They provide a basic source of "hands on" information to members (or
non-members) in their genealogical search.

You may ask, what do we do at the reunion besides greet old and new
friends and cousins, eat, attend discussion groups? The answer is, of
course, look up family members in the big brown books!
It was doubtful, briefly, that the brown books would be available this
year. But - Chastain ingenuity and willingness to go the extra mile
solved the problem.
Congratulations for the creative work in moving the brown books from
Texas to Mississippi to make them available for genealogists at the
Reunion.
Bill has sent them to Jimmy in Mississippi; Jim will bring them to the
Reunion. After the Reunion, a similar process will be used to get them
home.

Pierre was born 4/9/1659 according to Huguenot church records. He first
married Susanne Renaud. They had eight children, but the only one of these we
know had offspring was Jean who was their oldest and born around 1694. Susanne
died the first winter in Manikin and he subsequently married Ann Soblet.
Motherhood of his daughters is not certain because the tax lists do not give
definite year of birth for women.
