I'm here, Rose. I couldn't make the reunion either, but I have FINALLY
located some descendants of my great-grandfather's siblings; some even knew
"Uncle Lee."
Apparently, John CHASTEEN, b: Oct. 1853 in MO, took his children and moved
to McIntosh Co, OK after his wife Laura HUGAR/HUGART/HUGGARD, b: Sept. 1858
in MO, died in Jasper Twp, Dallas Co, MO sometime between June 1900 and the
end of 1901 (their youngest daughter, Sarah Lenna, b: Oct. 13, 1899 in
Jasper Twp., was around two when they moved to Hanna, OK). Many of the
children settled in that part of the country and many of their descendants
are in OK today.
I haven't made contact with some of them as of yet -- I just received their
names and addresses the other day. Andrew Martin is the son of Sarah Lenna,
and his daughter Rebecca sent me a letter. Andrew told me that Lonnie
Chasteen of Inola, OK is the grandson or great-grandsom of Henry, through
his son Hiram S., b: 1898 in Jasper Twp. (Apparently, Lonnie puts together a
reunion every year). Bonnie L. Chasteen of Vandusser, MO is supposed to be
another relative, but I don't know her connection, yet.
So, even though I missed the PCFA reunion, I believe I've made quite a
reunion of my own. It's wonderful to make these discoveries after so many
years of research.

Hi Ray, I live in Ft. Gibson OK but don't believe we are from the same
direct line. My mother was a Chastain, and lived in and around the Webbers
Falls OK area most of her life.
I would like to find some of her first cousin. I do know that Jehu B. had
three other brothers and if I could contact some of their children maybe I
could finish out my line. One brother died at a very young age,
William David Chastain b.1886, but the other two married. Their names were
Joseph Pinckney Chastain, b. 1884, and Elisa Chastain b. 1887. Any
information would be appreciated greatly.
Thanks,

Hi list,
Frank came to my home years ago doing research on the Chastains. I have
a Benjamin Chastain (gggg grandfather) who gave 2 land lots for the
county seat of Clarkesville, Georgia. This is Habersham County. He was
married to Nancy Hooper, the daughter of Absalom Hooper, Sr. and Sarah
Salers of Elbert, Co., GA. Absalom and Sarah married on Pistol Creek in
1783. (Where is Pistol Creek ?)
Benjamin is the son of Abner and Rachel Barnes Chastain. Wife 2) Susan
O'Kelly. Don't have other dates at the moment for marriage/birth, etc.

Dear All,
The URL I posted re: CHASTAINs found in the NARA NAIL search was only valid
for the time I was searching. In order to find the items I mentioned in my
last post, go to the NARA NAIL Search page,
http://www.nara.gov/nara/nail.html , click on "Search Archives," enter
Chastain, then click "Display Results."
Sorry for any difficulties this may have caused.

I'm very sorry that we cannot make it to the reunion this year although
we are definitely making plans to do so next year.
As to an annual report, I guess the copies of the Chestnut Tree,
(including errors), are my annual report.
I hope that some of those that attend will send me pictures (with names)
ASAP so that I can include them in the October issue.
Items for the board to consider:
1- For the issue following the 2000 reunion, I would like to include one
page of color photos. This will cost $200 to $500 depending on just how
it is done. (could be a single 8 1/2X11 page or one two-sided sheet in
the CT. Can the exchequer stand that?
2- I would urge the association to set aside some money to be used to
hire research in French records from Issoudun and Bourge on Pierre's
ancestry.
See y'all next year.
Marv Chastain
I tried to get thru by clicking on this url. All I get is a message telling
me that my session has timed out.
The correct url is http://www.nara.gov/nara/nail.html
then go to Search archival holdings
then go to NAIL standard search
then type in Chastain and go to bottom of page and click on submit search
then when the screen pops up again it should tell you how many hits there
were. Go back to bottom of page and click on
display results
