Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
If you want to unsubscribe from the list at any time, please do not write to
the list. The automated computer is addressed:
CHASTAIN-L-request(a)rootsweb.com
and do not write anything, anywhere, except the word unsubscribe in the
subject line. Also, it would be nice if you would send strictly personal
mail to the individual, not to the 200 subscribers to the list. Everything
that is posted to the list goes into the archives and in a permanent record
filed by the subject. Rootsweb will not transmit to the list anything but
plain text. Nothing in MIME format, or attachments. And, I thank you. CARLOS

Cheryl,
The John Chastain who witnessed the 1828 deed for Abraham Chastain, Sr. of
Pickens County was "Blind" John Chastain, Jr., son of Reverend John
Chastain, they were very close neighbors. I might add that Abraham has been
considered by some as an unknown son of Rev. John, but no legal proof. This
speculation based on the fact that he seemed to have long ties with Rev.
John's descendants, residing near to Edward Brigand Chastain in 1790 and
then from sometime before 1820 to his death in the 1840's residing near to
Blind John and his family.
The Abraham who died circa 1821 in Greenville County, SC was Rev. John and
Rev. James' brother. The John and Abraham, Jr. mentioned in this document
are his sons. Both of these men removed to Hall County, GA.

I have written down that Abraham Chastain may have been the son of Rev.
James Chastain. No documentation for that. But I was looking at some
stuff here I want to run by ya'll and would like to know if ya'll can
figure anything out.
Okay, I have two deeds to Jacob and Abraham from their father Abraham in
1848. One of these deeds was an original grant to George Hutson.
Now George Hudson sold this land to Abraham Sr. in 1828. On this deed
there is a John Chastain that signes as a witness and the deed is proved by
him. Who is this John Chastain?
In Apt. 2 File 107 from the Greenville SC Probate Judge Office there is an
Abraham Chastain that is deceased and two of his sons are John and Abraham.
Could these two sons be the the same John and Abraham that signed the deed
from 1828?

I guess I goofed on my email to Gloria Argo. She had said she wasn't
receiving CHASTAIN posting and I was trying to find out from her if the
problem is solved. Thanks to all of you who responded to say you are
receiving mail. It is only Gloria I need to hear from. CARLOS.

Sondra identified herself to me personally, and I want to pass along to you
what she said so you can know her, also. (She is Sbb0004)
I am Sondra Bateman and am a direct descendant of Pierre. I didn't know
about my Chastain linage until 1996 when I stumbled upon a cousin (actually
she contacted me). She told me about my Chastain family and I started
digging immediately! It has been five generations since the name of Chastain
has been written in my family but I feel I am just as much a part of the
Chastain family as someone who has the surname Chastain. My main interest is
in all the side lines, since I have the direct line already mapped out.
Hope to hear from all of you soon.
Sondra

Diane,
In one document, I found my great-great-grandmother listed as CASTEEN and an
great-uncle listed as CHASTEN, so to see it spelled CHESTINE, CHESTAIN,
CHESTEEN, etc. wouldn't surprise me at all. Happy hunting!

THJE NAME IS A VERIATION OF CHASTAIN. HERE IN WARREN COUNTY, TENN..THIS
VERSION APPEARS AS WELL AS CHASTIN, CHASTINE, CHASTEEN,CASTINE, AND
I keep reading the different spellings of the name Chastain and I wonder if
the spelling CHESTINE is another version. I have a good friend whose maiden
name was Chestine. Does anyone out there have any comments about this
name? Is it a Chastain variation or a completely different family? Thanks,
Diane Bingham
Try every spelling variation. I don't remember seeing anything for
CHASTIEN, but there were CHASTEENs, CHASTINEs and of course the standard
spelling. Those lists alone took up my time. Happy hunting, and
remember -- Keep smiling; it's contagious! And, it makes me feel better.
