Excuse me but there are Edens in the Pierre Chastain book. Don't ask me
on what page, but I was looking for something last night and saw the
name Eden, which I noted from reading Anna's question.

Anna Wong. I wonder who you are asking about. There aren't any Edens in the
Chastain Book. And, it would take many, many pages to tell you what the book
says about Pierre CHASTAIN. What makes anyone famous is a matter of
conjecture. I think that Pierre is famous because he has so many descendants
and the Pierre Chastain Family Association is made up largely of his family,
or people who married into the line. If you will give me your telephone
number, I will call you and we can discuss your questions. CARLOS THOMASON,
in Phoenix.
Carlos - Do you have the book "Pierre Chastain and His Descendants"? Is
that the one that is $30.00? I can't afford it at this time. Can you send
me what the book says about his ancestors? Also, can you explain to me why
he seems to be so famous????

The truth is that the furtherest back we can trace Pierre Chastain's
lineage is found in the PCFA's book (Page Vi) which takes us back to
Estienne Chastain who was Pierre's G Grandfather (fled Bourges at the
time of the Huguenot massacre in 1572) . I believe what Avery is
referring to is a rather fanciful lineage found on the Mormon computers
which shows a lot of royalty, but is for a family named "Chatanier" or
"Chateigner" (and various similar spellings). There was a man named
"Chatanier" who's first name was "Pierre" on the same ship (the Mary and
Ann) as Pierre Chastain(g), our ancestor. It was theorized by some that
they made a mistake when they made up the manifest and these two Pierres
were the same person. That theory is debunked by the 1705 naturalization
list which shows both men. It is also debunked by the manifest itself
which shows different family members accompanying each man. Besides
that, the ship captain was paid nine pounds per head for the passengers.
They certainly were careless about spelling, but you better believe the
British government types were very careful in their count.
The Mormon Church allows anyone to place information on their computer,
consequently it contains a lot of legend which you cannot separate from
facts. Their microfiche are copied from public records and are valuable
genealogical sources. But their computer files are too corrupted to be
taken seriously by anyone who is seriously tracing ancestry.

Sidney Harrison. In answer to your letter about tracing CHASTAIN lineage.
The very best you can do is buy the book "PIERRE CHASTAIN AND HIS
DESCENDANTS". It will take you back to the father of Jacques CHASTAIN.
Jacques was born ca 1598-1600. This book is available now, and a revised,
updated book will be available soon. You should join the Pierre CHASTAIN
Family Association. The quarterly publication has lots of good information in
it. I am not where my records are but I am sending a copy to Jim Chesteen
and I am sure he will fill you in. CARLOS THOMASON, list sponsor.
Can one find any of this information online? (Besides this e-mail, of
course!) I'm curious as to how far back we can actually trace our lineage,
and to where and whom.

Hi Paul:
Hello, and welcome! Did you know that, as a descendant of Abraham Salle
you also have ties to Chastain LeSueur, son of David LeSueur and
Elizabeth Chastain (daughter of Pierre)?
One of my cousins (who is a descendant of Abraham Salle and of Chastain
LeSueur) is very interested in contacting you. Since your e-mail address
did not appear in Carlos' message, I'd appreciate your writing me
directly so that I can give you my cousin's address.
Thanks,
Polly in Houston
