Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
I subscribe to about a dozen lists and continue to find the Chastain
list to be the best, most interesting, and most thought provoking. The
recent exchanges on Thanksgiving are interesting to me because of the
way they parallel the challenges we all face in genealogy. There would
be family oral tradtion (as there is generally accepted, albeit false
tradition concerning concerning Thanksgiving). There would documented
truth which might contradict the more widely accepted family traditions
( as there is also documentation tracing the birth of the Thanksgiving
holiday to the Civil War - or War for Southern Indendence for some of
our cousins). While the aspects of tradition vs documentation may seem
to bring conflict, they really should not cloud the primary issue of
love of family (as there is also a holiday where we pause to
appreciate our blessings).

I will agree with all of you. This Sunday, we are being asked by
our Pastor to rise and give our Thanksgiving thoughts to the
Congregation. I think that is important. Just another Chastain
thanking our forefathers and mothers..........AL

Let us celebrate Thanksgiving for what it means, not the specific date. I'm
old enough to remember the hassel of third .fouirth, or last Thursday and the
real intent is to give Thanks...How about every day, just a little more on this
designated day!!!.Elizabeth

Actually, Thanksgiving Day was first proclaimed by President A. Lincoln as a
day to give thanks to the Creator for preserving the Union. It stuck and
eventually became a harvest festival. Jack Shastid

Thank you for your favorable comments. The last few days I have several
times passed a church sigh that reminds us that "Thanksgiving" is
really two words, thanks, and -giving.
Thank You Lawerence!
For sending us greetings and for NOT calling it turkey day. I am really
tired of hearing that expression. The day is THANKSGIVING.
Our ancestors sat aside time to give thanks to their Creator for all he
had done for them in sustaining them and keeping them alive. He blessed
them in ways we do not fully understand.
It truly is our only national holiday when that Creator is recognized
by giving thanks to Him and I hope that in all our modern ways, we never
manage to change that!

Does any one have a Chastain/Chasteen-Burton family connection? and if so
could you tell me some of the history. I am trying to create migration
pattern in hopes of finding the parents of JOHN BURTON CHASTEEN.
Thank you,
Audri

If you forward porno to TOSSpam (AOL customers), AOL has been fighting this
trash for a long time and they have brought law suits against these people
and won. I understand a lot of this trash comes from The Netherlands where
prostitution is a legal thing.

Dear Janice and other Chastains,
I don't know that I am related to Calvin or Abner but I am pretty sure I am
not, I am sorry to say. Years ago a Mrs. Eddie Jean Simmons gave me quite a
bit of genealogy to see if we connected and though we do not, we both had
family from the same part of No. GA, the Dalton-Varnell area, and Haywood
Co. NC. She said she had a real good reunion in Tenn. last year. We met
at the Eckerd's nearby here where I live talking about genealogy.
I am related going back, through
my Mother, Opal O'Neal Petrich
her Mother, Annie Lands O'Neal
her Mother, Salena Stone Lands
her Mother, Margaret Shelton Stone
her Mother, Mary Chastain Shelton
her Father, Elijah Chastain
His Father John (Ten Shilling Bell) Chastain
His Father, Peter Chastain
His Father, Pierre Chastain
Eddie's e-mail is: Ejscott1Aaol.com, incase she hasn't logged on.
Sincerely,
Carol Flores
Oh sorry about that I've been doing this 20 yr. and I should know better!

The Republic Monitor

pg 4A 'OPINION' 20 & 40 YEARS AGO
The following appeared in the Oct. 30, 1979 edition of the Perry County
Republication:
Chamber Elects New Officers
Members of the Perryville Chamber of Commerce elected five new
directors and approved a change in the organization's annual banquet
date during last Thursday night's quarterly meeting at the Intersection
Cafe.
Elected to the Board of Directors for two-year terms were Bill Bailey,
Jerry Davis, Charles Drayton, James Knapp and James Taylor. They join
those other holdover members on the Board: Charles Clark, Mike
Bullerdieck, DR. FLETCHER O. CHASTEEN, Kim Moore, Orville Schaefer and
Melvin Tull.
Hope this is helpful to someone.
