Maybe someone can help us locate Jimmy Morris, he is a doctor and was reared
in the Calvin, Ok area, his grandmother was Josie (Chastain) Morris. She was
married to Kizie Morris, Jim's father was Otto Morris and was down during a
flashflood in the Canadian River in 1941. We have heard that he is in the
Texas area possibly somewhere around Dallas but not sure. Any help would be
appreciated.

Sometime ago, someone requested DAR information. I've subscribed to a

It's very helpful.

Although I'm not looking for DAR information, a number of people have

The original letter was from Avilla Farnsworth-Milligan's son to me. He
wanted to hear from people who might have known about his mother. I forwarded
my reply to him to Chastain-L so that anyone who might know her could contact
her. If you didn't know her, then you don't have to reply.

Hi -
I enjoyed working with your mother on her first book. I do not think she
typed her second book for publication because when I couldn't do it, she spoke
of getting someone to type it book ready. As I said, I did a lot of the
editing (because I'm good with details) and made suggestions or questioned
details if they didn't seem right to me.
Everyone doing Chastain research will know your mother's name because of her
books. She was very thorough in her research and her details. You are right
about the work being very time consuming because it was before computers. My
daughter helped me a lot on the indexing.
Thanks for sending the rest of your message. I have forwarded it to:

for Chastain researchers who are "subscribers." That gets a lot of coverage.
I hope others will contact you.

your letter for all of her cousins to see. CARLOS
<Delighted to get your communication re: Family Association. You
said you could subscribe for me. That would be great.
I, Gary, am not the Chastain family member, but my wife is represented on
that family. She is doing her best to get me interested in tracing my
family, and I am dragging my heels. Betty has traced her line "way back"
and is very knowledgeable about the Family Assn. I am sure she can help
anyone who is interested. We plan on attending the Family Assn meeting
in
Georgia in the Fall.

wont let me. I like JUNO but don't like to advertise for them. CARLOS)

I have had several inquiries from people who expected to see info on the
reunion in the April CT and did not find it. The reason is, I have not
heard one peep myself. Somebody needs to get on this and get the info
out so that people who have to plan vacations a long time in advance can
do so.

Cheryl, I am leary of "always" and "never". I know the witnesses
provide a clue. But, it might be a bother-in-law or an uncle from her
mothers side of the family. If there is no family it might just be a
friend, but indeed, someone who will protect her interests. Just know that
you can't assume that the family name of the witness is not necessarily the
maiden name. Neta Jane Doris
Got this info from another mailing list I'm on and thought maybe ya'll
would find it of interest. Does anyone find any truth to this?
Taken from the "MN Genealogical Society Newsletter, July 1993.
"In the lower left hand corner of most old deeds, you will find signatures
of two to four witnesses. The first one is always from the husband's side.
The next one is always from the wife's side. That is to protect her 1/2
dower right under the law. Nothing you will ever use will give greater
clues to maiden names than witnesses on OLD deeds."

I've read a lot of information being sent back and forth about Chastains in
NC/SC/OK/TX but was wondering if anyone is following the Chastains into
Richardsville, Warren Co., KY? I have some information but need more about
the line from Peter,Sr., Peter Jr., Rene, Rhoda Chastain Hudnall, Narcissa
Hudnall Morrow, Rhoda Chastain Morrow Manning, Richardson H. Manning, etc.
I'm particularily interested in the father of John Manning (gf of
Richardson, Jr.), b abt 1776 in VA and his brother James, born abt 1780 in
Va (possibly the 2nd husband of Elizabeth (Betsy) Chastain b 1778 VA?). If
anyone has anything, I would appreciate it. I would share what I have. I
seem to be stuck finding out about John and James's father. Obviously
that's our Manning ancestor. Thanks.
