Anyone who know how to contact Edward Earl Chastain please get me in
touch with him or his family. I understand his family Bible has a
reference to an Allen Chastain born Nov. 13 1923.
Thanks Howard Chasteen

Does anyone have access to or know where I can gain access to the
"Southwestern Union Record" from March 1926. I found some info that
indicates there's an obituary for John J. CHASTEEN, b: Sept. 2, 1852. This
could be my grt-grandfather, but I have no way of telling for sure. My
ggfa, according to my info was born in MO about Oct. 1852. It is my belief
that he died in MO.
Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
Ciao for now,
Ray

OK Carlos and rootsweb administrators. I TURNED OFF MIME. This is going
to make it fun to try and remember to turn it off and on all the time.
There must be some antique computers out there, "and I thought my 200Mhz

end users. Having to turn it off and on will discourage me from
participating in rootsweb. Here is the message I tried to send ONE MORE

I am Howard Porter Chasteen and am researching the descendants and
anscestors of Allen Chastain (b ca. 1840) of Pendleton District SC.
He was my G.G.grandfather. He married Martha Williams of Pendleton (near
Anderson) before 1860 They had two children Hardin Andrew and Pinckney
Chastain. Hardin born in June 1860 and Pinckney about 1864.
Allen (according to oral tradition was killed in the Civil War at the
explosion of the Crater in Petersburg VA. He may have been wounded and
in the Hospital at Richmond prior to his death. There appear to be 2or 3
A.H. or H.A. Chastains from the same general area on the Civil war
records I was able to locate. The most likely link back from my
GGGrandfather Allen is to the nearby Allen Chastain that is shown as a
son on the will of John Chastain of Abbeville district. (will ca. 1837).
Because a
strong tradition of taking the fathers first name as one of the given
names of 1st sons, Allen ties right in. My grandfather, Joseph Andrew,
his
dad Hardin Andrew, Allen who was either Allen H. or H. Allen Chastain
etc. Hardin Andrew's brother Pinckney later had a son named Grover
Cleveland Chasteen who's son Billy lived for a while in Great Falls SC.
I believe Billy had a son Billy B. Chasteen who died a few years back in
Columbia SC. His widow still living. I will respond to all replies and
will help others any way I can. Even if I can't use MIME. ha ha.

I have just been contacted by a descendant of Jonathan Repp & Susan Chastain.
However, she doesn't seem to know any more about them than you do. Still you
might want to make contact with her.

Hi all,
I'm looking for a descendant of my subject John and Elizabeth (Spaulding)
Chastain. Margaret Jane was their daughter and she was born 1 Jun. 1848,
died 11 Jan. 1912 in Scott Co., IN. She m. a Pleasant Allen Repp b. 31
Jan. 1852 Scott Co., IN; d. 17 Jan. 1929.
Pleasant Allen Repp's parents were Jonathan Repp who m. Susan Chastain who
was b. c. 1830. She was the daughter of Harmon and Lavilla (Robbins)
Chastain.
Does anyone know when Susan died? My real interest here is Jonathan Repp.
I'm hoping to find out that Susan died before the Civil War and that
Jonathan may have left his son in IN while he went to TX, joined Young's
Brigade for the Civil War, and hope he is the same one that married Susan
Hick's in 1865.
Anyone have any info on this Repp line via their Chastain connection?

Whether you are a Denton or not this work of Sue Montgomery is worthy of a
look see. I do believe that it is the best I have ever seen. Makes me want
to get back to work on my eager effort. If any of you have a web page it
would be good to share it with us. And it doesn't have to be this good. Good

Hi Carla
You can enter a name and it will search the internet for entries. I got
a list several pages long on Sam Cox. You can click on any underline
and it will open that page.
This probably works best if you are using the latest versions of
Netscape (4.5 is Free) or MS Explorer. I think it may require the
brouser have the ability to work with JAVA. The latest AOL Brouser also
works I think.

good source.
Just ignore the ads. Excite is a commercial site, but it is well

I received this E Mail from alderich@heraldry 2001.com, offering a free search
on your surname. Name of company is: Hall of Names International, Inc.
Most of you who have been into genealogy for some years recognize this as a
way to part you from your money They offer a 1700 word beautifully
illuminated parchment of your great distinguished family, plus Coat of Arms
and only $14.95 for your full history!
I decided to check this out. First, I typed in the name "Chastain". The
response was this. A history of this ancient Poitou family traces its ancestry
as a family of French origin before the year 1100, etc. They mention nobles,
castles, manors, estates, etc. Sounds great, doesn't it? About the only
thing that is correct, is that the name is of French origin.
Then I typed in the name "Buland" Would you believe that they can trace this
family back to the year 1100 also? This time they gave the country of origin
as Lincolnshire, England and that the family was of Norman origin.
Here is what I do know about the Buland family. My husband's grandparents
came from Bohemia and Germany. Other Buland families I know about originated
in Norway. Draw your own conclusions.

Folks,
I had forgot the Chastain-Rootsweb address was in this address book
when I broadcast the Harris Black Message. I reply to List messages
more than posting originals and never need to look it up.
I know many of you are angry with me and I certainly understand as I
do not care for spam either.
One thing about e-mail, you make a mistake and everyone knows it.
I expect I will be seeing more angry messages and I have made sure to
move the List address to a separate location.
I am looking for a new last name, maybe Smith? Jones? I am open to
suggestions.

I want to apologize to the subscribers of the CHASTAIN list for this use of
the list. When it comes from a subscriber and is plain data there is very
little I can do about it. It takes me a while to clean up these long
forwarded letters and that was the purpose of my recent letter asking everyone
to send such letters directly to people they think might be interested. I
want to say to David that it would be appreciated if he would write directly
to his friends. Not to the Chastain List. You duplicated everything so that
many people got two or three letters. The mission of the CHASTAIN list does
not included sponsoring a HARRIS POLL. Thanks for your cooperation. CARLOS
