I vote Facebook. I am a member of several genealogy groups on Facebook and have never had
a problem with any of them.

Alright I've been researching the different options available. Here's what
I've narrowed down too and the benefits each has;
1. Facebook - Can add Photo's and files. Can have the group public, private
or secret. Free
2. Google groups- Doesn't appear to have a file area. Users can receive
emails of posts like we had a Rootsweb. Can view topics and can make the
group public to be searchable from the web. here's a group that can be
viewed-
https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/louisiana-genealogy-blogs
3. Groups.io- Does have a file and photo area however they count towards
storage limits for the group which is only 1GB of storage which is free
anything over that would have to be paid for. Doesn't appear to be
searchable from the web only through their directory. It reminds me a lot
of Yahoo Groups. Here's an example-
https://njgf.groups.io/g/main
I personally would chose either Facebook or Google groups.
What do you think?
Thanks,
Lisa

I use to belong to a Swedish rootsweb group that was extremely helpful. Everyone was
very nice and help was shared by both Swedish Americans and Swedes. They switched to a
private (one had to ask to join but it was easy to do so) group on Facebook. It is a
marvelous group and I have made many friends. Everyone is so helpful. The Swedes who
were so excellent at helping on rootsweb switched over and help on the Facebook page. It
was such a success that the administrators created two groups, one for sharing and helping
in genealogy and one for Swedish Culture which includes pictures, food, customs, and so
on. I like the Facebook idea because the interaction feels very friendly and sharing
pictures helps with this compatibility. We also might be able to attract and help many
more Chases. Rootsweb is so old and not advertised now and because of this new
genealogists probably never learned about using it as a means of getting help. My vote is
for Facebook. Thanks for asking our advice. Gwenda Elin Gustafson Malnati

Lisa, I sent you a detailed reply, but it was rejected as "containing
spam." This is not the
first time this has happened to me--maybe controls set too high.
I was opting for Groups.io and had reasons, but I am sure everyone on
the list does
not want to get these detailed emails from everyone else. We should be
able to
contact you directly.
