Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
I am by inclination, education and my grandmother's wishes a historian interested in humanity. That said, I have always felt like the rest of the world was two steps ahead of me. If I found out something new today, then usually everyone else had knowledge two days ago of the same until the formalization of "genome". aka John Duns' "thingness" .Until about 5 years ago, I was under the impression based on my father's information, that my family was Anglo-Saxon. He died in 1974-before Computers and DNA. Family genealogy tended to support that claim. I am a direct descendant of Aquila Chase and Ann Wheeler, as well as 6 other's on the First Settlers of Newbury, Massachusetts stone. Where our Chase family came from is, I suppose, the "$64 million Question". I've begun to wonder if it isn't a version of some celtic place-name spoken by the Wessex Saxons that just happens to be the same as the Norman name used in Buckinghamshire. It wasn't until I began exploring the female lines once the family left Essex County and moved up into the District of Maine that I discovered my "Celt" connection. Research has female lines in at least 8 different Scottish families. I also began to see a pattern in who married who and when they arrived in the colonies. I need to know if this is just a fluke or if anyone else sees it. More than half of all my ancestors [including my mother's lines] arrived prior to 1660-NONE had ties to either Puritans or Presbyterians - nearly all supported the Stuarts or at least didn't oppose them. My earliest Scottish connection is a Battle of Worcester highlander who served in Mackinnon's foot, whose Laird was knighted by Charles II, just before he died so that the young king could escape from Worcester. The Wheelers were from Salisbury, Wilts, the next shire over from Worcester, the Ordways from the shire west and on the Welsh border, Gloucester was pro Stuart & Major Robt Pike was at odds with Boston over Witch trials. Cromwell seized Bristol and closed the harbor to travel just after the John and Francis sailed to bring Aquila and his brother Thomas to Hampton, NH. The John and Francis held a lettre of Marque issued by Charles II in 1626, When the SPOWs arrived in Boston, many were put to work at the Saugus Iron works. One of the men who trained them was Henry Leonard, Henry's family was from Pontypool Wales and owned the Leonard Iron works. In 1623 the family received a royal charter to build the first Iron works in Massachusetts. Henry was so disgusted by the practices of Cromwell and the puritans that at the restoration he requested of Charles II to use the family charter to remove to New Jersey and build the first iron works there, it was granted. My mom is a direct descendant of his-coincidental? wow! My paternal Grandmother is my Chase connection. It is the middle name of my father, my son and my grandson. Jonathan Chase jr., son of my revolutionary war ancestor, Capt Jonathan Chase of Newbury, was the last born in Newbury about the time Jonathan sr and his brother Edmund [both married to Merrill wives, incidently] were removing to the Androscoggin River Valley. He married a descendant of Rev. Robert Jordan of Spurwick, District of Maine; twice. Rev. Jordan was from Worcester and had lost his parents in the epidemic of 1637. He was taken in by an Uncle who was associated with the Bishopric of Worcester. When John Winters had a group of families who were to settle Richmond Island, under Sir Fernando Gorges-a friend and supporter of Charles I, Rev. Jordan went along as spiritual and financial advisor.. He would later marry the daughter, Sarah, at the request of the father. Rev. Jordan ended up in Boston Gaol twice for refusing to adhere to Puritan practices and writs. Between Rev. Jordan and Jonathan Chase Jr's. marriage to 1st Hannah Jordan [dau of Ebenezer Jordan & Sarah McKenney- see Anna Nancy McKenney below] and 2nd Susannah Jordan [my grgrgr grandmother] the widow of Thomas Dresser. Susannah had a gr-grandmother descendant of George Gray, SPOW of Dunbar, 1650, Pheobe Gray[ Mrs Dominicus Jordan III], Ancestors Andrew Simonton & Ann Douglas of Argyle sent to Ulster by Wm & Mary- granddaughter Susannah Simonton was Mrs Dominicus Jordan IV, and her own mother was Anna Nancy McKenney [ Mrs John Gray Jordan] descendant of John McKenney SPOW aforesaid. As far as I can tell, all these English ancestors left England in the years preceding the outbreak of the Bishop's War [1638] or shortly thereafter but before Cromwell seized power and refused to allow ships to leave with passengers who did not swear allegiance to his commonwealth 1649. Jonathan and Susanna's son Cyrus married Abbie H. Atwood- another family with a SPOW grandmother, Dorothy McKenney md Hiram Libby, whose family were early colonists of old Falmouth, who appear on the 1729 taxrolls of Black point to assess the damage done when the Indians burnt the town down. The Atwoods appear on the 1283 Parliamentary Military Writs of Worcester as atte Wodes, another Southwestern Wessex family. Cyrus's son Elmer married Kate Knowlen who counts in her family tree, one Abigail Campbell md to Benjamin Boobar[Bubier] who fought with Col Jonathan Eddy at Fort Cumberland Dec 1776. Benjamin's family is from the Channel Island of Guernsey where Stuart Royalist support was very strong. The Bubier/Boobar family arrived in Rhode Island in the late 1640s, with Benjamin's ancestors later moving to Marblehead, Essex, Mass [ separated from Salem it's inhabitants weren't too happy with the stricter Salem resident. It is also connected with Fowey, Cornwall] before heading to Georgetown in Casco Bay 1740s. If anyone else sees this pattern, of preference for connections that are anti- Presbyterians, puritains, regicides etc, rather than pro, I would appreciate hearing from you. I am trying to see if there is sufficient evidence to continue researching that the commonality in events connected with the deaths, conflicts, etc that are retained in the 10-14 generations of genome within the Anti- groups is capable of overshadowing the cultural differences between Celtic and Saxon/ Saxon and Norman/Scottish and English when those differences are isolated as they were in the colonial areas of Massachusetts and Lygonia/District of Maine after 1665 but before 1745 and continued for another 100-200 years after the Creation of the United States. It might help genealogists to focus more on a general locality when seeking "homeland" information. I got lucky with researching Worcestershire, to find so much information about so many different ancestors. My only regret was that I didn't know about my Scottish roots until just the last couple of years- so much time and energy gone to less important things when I could really use it now.

Looking for information on Chase Family's who lived in Missouri. I just can't find anything on my Grandmother Mary Luella "Lulu" Chase Waterhouse. She was born 1878, Missouri, Her Mother was: Mary Ellen "Ella" Chase. I think she was born somewhere around 1840. Census Records said from Kentucky. But I can't find anything. I did find on one of Ella's Daughter Carrie Chase saying her Father was Eli Chase. Can anyone help me! Kindly, Linda Waterhouse Cooklinh2opad(a)aol.com

After thinking about things I decided to open 2 sites and see which one is
more favorable in the long run. So I opened a FB page and a page on
Groups.io. Go ahead and register on which one you prefer or join both. It
might take a bit before your approval to join is accepted, I'm still
working on the other 5 groups I own and need to move.
Links are below.
Thanks everyone,

I vote Facebook. I am a member of several genealogy groups on Facebook and have never had a problem with any of them.

I like the Facebook idea because the interaction feels very friendly and sharing pictures helps with this compatibility. We also might be able to attract and help many more Chases. Rootsweb is so old and not advertised now and because of this new genealogists probably never learned about using it as a means of getting help. My vote is for Facebook. Thanks for asking our advice. I would go with the Facebook group as a private group. I am an admin in one such group and approve most requests to join as long as they meet group qualifications.

I use to belong to a Swedish rootsweb group that was extremely helpful. Everyone was very nice and help was shared by both Swedish Americans and Swedes. Sadly I received this information today. This wasn't the agreement Ancestry
told us when they bought Rootsweb. I know many would rather not use
Ancestry since you have to pay to use. There are free sites that can be
used like Family Search @ https://www.familysearch.org/ Only no message
boards. There's also Wikitree @ https://www.wikitree.com which is free and
they do have message forums. I do like Wikitree they require sources for
each person listed which is a big help in research. Yes they is some
incorrect info listed, but the good thing is if you see info not correct you
can go in and edit and fix the misinformation and add source info to back up
the change.
If any of you are interested I can start a Chase group on Facebook if enough
are interested in me doing so.
I will miss this group some of you have been on this page with me for since
the late 90's
Thanks,

Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will
be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or
accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer
be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an
archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After
that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on
RootsWeb.
As an alternative to RootsWeb Mailing Lists, Ancestry message boards are a
great option to network with others in the genealogy community. Message
boards are available for free with an Ancestry registered account.
Thank you for being part of the RootsWeb family and contributing to this
community.
Sincerely,
The RootsWeb team
