Hello, Bob,
Obviously, as you, and other researchers, have not found it ( the record of James' birth) there probably is not a written record, otherwise it would come up in a search.
I have not seen the will of the elder Job Chase (the first Job Chase of the three). However, Captain Job died long after James, the purported eldest son, and even after all of James's children had reached adulthood. James's wife Mercy had also long ago remarried. To whom was he leaving his estate, especially if he did not mention any of James's children by name? I do know that he had had approximately 55 grandchildren at the time of his death. I am not sure how many of his own children were living.
Job's wife and James's mother was Edith Bassett; James named one of his daughters Edith.
The area in which Job lived and owned property is at the far western end of Harwich, just about on the border of Dennis, and Dennis was once a part of Yarmouth. Perhaps his birth is registered in the town of Yarmouth; Job was born in Yarmouth; perhaps James was also, or maybe born in Chatham home of Edith. Also, Harwich was once a part of Eastham. Is it possible a birth was registered there?
The church that Job and the family attended was but a short walk from his house. I know that Mercy is buried in the Baptist
churchyard there, although Job is buried in North Harwich. And I do not believe James is with Mercy, although she is well remembered with loving words on her stone and fresh flowers at the grave.
Most researchers quote Chamberlin's work or The Mayflower Descendant when calling James the son of Job. And of course, it could be wrong. I have found other errors in Chamberlin's work.
I wish you good luck...
Judy

Need positive proof of father of James Chase was Captain Job Chase. No birth record or no mention of James in Job's will. Or James's wife or children. Proof on paper.
Thanks, Bob
