I've "rescued" an old intentions of marriage certificate belonging to
Merrill KNIGHT of Peru, Maine and Angeline M. FORD of Sumner, Maine. The
document is dated 2 May 1847 and signed by John E. JENSIE Town Clerk. Based
on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding
this couple:
Merrill KNIGHT II was born 6 Dec 1818 in Peru, ME to parents Adam KNIGHT
(1792-1853) and Betsey CHASE (1794-1847). Merrill was one of 8 children
born to this couple including, Nathaniel; Merrill; Selma; Eveline A.;
Calista; Daniel; Jemima; and Maria Louise KNIGHT, all born in Peru, ME
between 1816 and 1837. Merrill died 13 Jun 1881 in West Peru, ME. At the
time of his death his wife was listed as Esther W. WOODSUM (1824-1889) so it
appears that he was married more than one time. He appears to have married
Esther WOODSUM on 15 Jan 1854 in Peru, ME and with her had three children,
Revillo or Revilla or Oraville A.; Laura or Lura M.; and Caroline N. KNIGHT
all born between 1856 and 1870.
Merrill is buried in the Dickvale Cemetery in Dickvale, ME.
Angeline Matilda FORD was b. 23 Jan 1825 in Sumner, ME to parents Seth FORD
(b. 25 Dec 1781 in Pembroke, MA) and Sally NASON (b. 9 Feb 1788 in MA).
Angeline was one of 11 children born to this couple including, Mary B.;
Elhanan W.; Susan Morse; Minerva J.; Maxiana; Lucy M.; Benjamin F.; George
W.; Rosanna W.; Angeline M.; and Columbus F. FORD, all born between 1806 and
1828. Angeline and Merrill married 24 May 1847 and she died 24 Jun 1848 in
Sumner, ME.
I am hoping to locate someone from this family so that the document can be
returned to their care. If you are a member of this family, or you know
someone who might be, please contact me.
Thanks,
Shelley
