I've "rescued" an old photograph identified only as "BUTTERWORTH" which was
taken at the Jones Studio in Providence, Rhode Island. The photograph
appears to have been taken in the 1870's with the man in the photograph
likely in his 20's at the time it was taken. I recovered the photograph
along with a group of photographs belonging to the Brown University Class of
1878 including both students and faculty.
Based on that I was able to locate Charles Frederick BUTTERWORTH in the
Class of 1878, so I'm guessing that this is a photograph of him. Based on
limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding
Charles and his family:
Charles Frederick BUTTERWORTH was b. 1 Nov 1857 in East Greenwich, RI to
parents James C. & Ann M. BUTTERWORTH. He married Harriet Nevell WHITE (b.
9 Sept 1855 in RI, dau of Joshua S. and Harriet T. WHITE) on 2 Feb 1887 in
RI. The couple had two children, Anna M. and Russell W. BUTTERWORTH, both
born in Providence, RI in 1889 and 1893 respectively.
