My brick wall is Timothy C. Chase born 1812 NY died 5 Jul 1877 acording to his headstone Atlanta Center Cemetery, Saline Co., Nebraska. He married 1832 Cornwall, Litchfield Co., Conn. Lucy Irene Howe. They moved to Lake Co., Ohio on to Mercer Co. Illinois and then Saline Co., Nebraska.

Donna in Oregon

Thanks Doris, yes that is exactly what I have found in my research so far.
I have not been able to confirm that Samuel c1766 is definately the son of
Samuel Chace and Jedidah Mayhew - do you have any evidence to support this?
I have only the fact that he is about the right age, that he named his
children with the rather unusual names of Olive and Lethrop and that the
author of the tree I mentioned had some reason to beleive he went to London.
I have now gathered a lot of information about Samuel and his career. He was
already a master mariner in 1796 so presumably he was very young when he
first went to sea. I would love to find some detail of his early life and
confirm his parentage.
Thanks for your interest
Regards
Lyla

Lyla - I show Samuel Chase, son of Samuel Chase and Jedidah Mayhew must
have been b. 1766, as he d. 1841 at age 75. He mar. Elizabeth Griffiths in
1806 in London, witnessed by Barnabas Gardner. I also show they had 5
children, Eliza, 1810, who was unmarried in 1841 at the time of her father's will,
Olive, b. 1811, d. 1839, mar. Joseph Smith; Julia Palmer, b. 1814, d. 1843,
mar. James Weldon; Lothrop Griffiths, b. 1817, d. 1887, mar. Ann Lewry;
and Ellen, b. 1819, apparently died bef. 1841 as she is not mention in her
father's will. Samuel was a master mariner and probably was the same person
who captained the Harriet in 1803 and the Pegasus, discovering Pegasus Bay
in New Zealand in 1809. His maternal grandmother's maiden name was Lothrop,
which is the name of Samuel's son. Jedidah Mayher's parents were Thomas
Mayhew and Lydia Lothrop. Hope this helps you a bit. Doris Dean Thomas,

71 - 80 and I was hoping that someone on this list might have a little
more
information about this family, in particular the following entry.

229. PAINE, b. (1774); lost at sea, never heard from.
230. PRUDENCE, b. 6 July 1776; m. NAPOLEON JONES.
I am very interested in the Samuel No. 223 who lived in England. I have a
hunch that he could be the same Samuel Chase whose career I have been
following. He was a master mariner but the earliest definate record I have
found is when his ship was captured by the Spanish off the coast of Chile
in
1796. Samuel did marry in England in 1806 and had children named Lothrop
and
Olive. He died in 1841 aged 75 which makes him born around 1766 which all
sort of fits with the Samuel above.
Any information would be gratefully received

Some sources suggest that his father was Samuel (3) Chase descending
from Aquila (1), via Moses (2), but I can find no confirmation. Any
help would be greatly appreciated.
