William and Rebecca Chase were the parents of Rebecca Chase (my 3rd great
grandmother) who married William Wingate about 1800 in either Kent County,
Delaware or Queen Anne's County, Maryland. William Chase died in Kent
County, Delaware between 1801 & 1812; Probate Records of Kent County,
Delaware 1801-1812, SLFHL Book #975.14 P2bm v.1
William Chase, deceased, letters of administration granted unto Rebecca
Chase who being sworn gave bond with James Tibbett, Lewell Green and John
Wilds securities.
William died intestate, but there is a court record of his heirs; Kent
County, Delaware Guardian Accounts 1753-1849 SLFHL Book #975.14 P2b v.4
Recorded dated 9 Aug 1813, states William Chase of Duck Creek Hundred, died
intestate and left the following heirs to survive him: widow Rebecca Chase
and seven children, Sarah now wife of William Wingate, William Chase, Ann
now wife of Noah Merchant, Rebecca wife of Stephen Howard, Elizabeth wife of
Joseph Clark, Maria Chase and John Chase, records states that daughter
Rebecca has died also and left one daughter named Elizabeth Howard
Other records in this same book say that son, John Chase is a minor under
the age of 14; another record states the son William Chase is the oldest
living son; Maria is now married to Samuel McKinney; granddaughter Elizabeth
Howard died an infant of tender years with no siblings; son William Chase
has died by 19 Feb 1824 and left 6 children, to wit, Emily, William,
Rebecca, Elizabeth, Mary and Jacob; widow Rebecca Chase has died by 19 Feb
1824 also;
Does anyone know the parentage of William's wife, Rebecca?
Also, William Chase had a son, Samuel, of Queen's Anne's County, Maryland
who died in 1849 and left a will in Kent County, Delaware, dated 1842. He
named several of his half-sisters and half-brothers proving that he, Samuel,
was a son of William Chase. Kent County, Delaware Wills & Administrations
Volume S1, 1849-1851, Folios 1-112, SLFHL Book #975.14 P28k.
Samuel CHASE, of Queen Anne's County, Maryland writes will 13 Dec 1842 and
it is recorded 31 Oct 1849; In it he mentions his half-sister Sarah WINGATE
wife of William who left here sometime ago and settled in Boone County,
Kentucky - he leaves Sarah and her heirs quite a bit of money.
Who was Samuel Chase's mother?
Thanks for any help with these questions.

Hello everyone,
It's so good to hear from you. I have the same question I had years ago. Does anyone have a James that they have a connection with a Rebecca Winn/Winne?
I am still unable to find anything. I know from information I have had he was born in Albany. Unknown is town or county. He moved from Albany County to Allegany County before
19 Nov 1829. I did find on Family Search a Nicholas Chase parents James Chase, Rebecca Winne shows birth 14 Sep 1828 and christened 20 Jan 1828 Presbyterian, New Scotland, Albany, New York. I believe his birth was 1827 and christening 1828.
Any help would be most welcome. I have been searching for over 15 years. I know from James tombstone he was born in 1796. I have a copy of his will whick cleared up who his daughters were and married but nothing back, I have found several James Chase b. 1796/7 but none with a Winne connection.
No way to check DNA as my father was the last of this line and he passed in 1993.

Genealogy is my Hobby,

HI DEREK!
WHAT FUN TO HEAR FROM YOU ABOUT MY GREAT GRANDPARENTS. I HAVE ONE DATE AND
THAT IS THE ONE OF MY GRANDMOTHER FROM THE MARRIAGE OF JAMES CHASE AND MARY
GROB. MY GRANDMOTHER WAS MARY CHASE AND SHE WAS THE YOUNGEST DAUGHTER OF THE
MARRIAGE. SHE WAS BORN ON MAY 9, 1890 WHICH WOULD MAKE HER DAD AROUND 50
SOMETHING. I KNOW HER BROTHER JAMES DIED AS A YOUNG MAN AND HE GAVE GRANDMA
HIS TOY TIN DRUM BEFORE HE DIED. HE GAVE OUT HIS THINGS SO MUST HAVE KNOWN
HE WAS GOING TO DIE. OLIVER MOVED OUT TO OREGON AND GEORGE MOVED TO NOTHERN
WISCONSIN. THE KIDS SEEMED TO KNOW AUNT NET AND THEIR DAD'S MOTHER CAME TO
WISCONSIN AND LIVED OUT HER LIFE. ONE OF THE RELATIVES USED TO TRY TO
PLUNDER THROUGH HER TRUNK AND SHE ESPECIALLY LOVED A HANDKERCHIEF THAT WAS
IN IT. GRANDMOTHER CHASE GAVE IT TO HER OR SHE ASKED FOR IT AND HAD IT
FRAMED. THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN A GRANDDAUGHTER OF GRANDMA CHASE...SHE WAS THE
DAUGHTER OF MY GREAT AUNT JANE. MY MATERNAL GRANDMA WHO I MENTION WAS BORN
IN 1890, MARRIED IN 1912 TO EMIL E.F. HANNEMAN. THEY HAD 3 DAUGHTERS:
LAVANCHE LOIS HANNEMN; BEVERLY ALFRANA HANEMAN; AND MY MOTHER WHO IS STILL
LI VING..MERCEDES MARIE HANNEMAN. AN INFANT, PHYLIS HANNEMAN DIED WHEN SHE
WAS 3 DAYS OLD.
GOSH, I'M SORRY ABOUT THE LACK OF DATES FOR YOU. WHEN I GO HOME THE END OF
THIS MONTH I'LL LOOK FOR MORE INFO ABOUT THE FAMILY AND WE CAN COMPARE
NOTES. MOMMA DID GO TO THE CEMETERY IN WAUSAU, WI AND FOUND THAT THERE WAS
AN UNMARKED GRAVE NEAR GREAT GRANDPA CHASE'S GRAVE. SHE TOTALLY BELIEVES
THAT GRAVE IS THE ONE WHERE JAMES CHASE'S MOTHER WAS BURIED..IF SO, THEN
THAT WOULD BE MARY MEAD CHASE'S GRAVE. THIS IS SO FUN..I WILL TELL YOU ONE
THING. WE HAD A COPY OF THE CHASE FAMILY TREE AND IT DISAPEARED NEVER TO
RESURFACE. THIS HAS BEEN A MYSTERIOUS AND VERY SOUGHT AFTER DOCUMENT IN MY
FAMILY. IT'S TOO BAD THAT I NEVER READ IT OR SHOWED ANY INTEREST AT THE
TIME. THE CULPRET IN THE DISAPPEARANCE MAY HAVE BEEN MY UNCLE BY MARRIAGE TO
LAVANCHE..AND I DON'T THINK HE WOULD HAVE THROWN IT AWAY ON PURPOSE UNLESS
HE WAS SICK OF SEEING IT OR HEARING ABOUT IT.
OF THE 3 BROTHERS WHO ARE OUR ANCESTORS, WOULD THIS MEAN THAT JAMES ANDREW
WAS FROM ONE OF THOSE LINES AND IF SO, WOULD IT HAVE BEEN AN ANDREW? I
FORGOT THE 3 BROTHERS OR LINES' NAMES..I THINK THERE WAS A WILLIAM...YOU
WOULD KNOW WHO THEY ARE.
AGAIN, THANKS SO MUCH.
IF YOU KNOW WHERE I COULD FIND AN ACCURATE FAMILY TREE OF OUR LINE, COULD
YOU LET ME KNOW?
SORRY FOR MY MEANDERING ..I GET EXCITED WHEN I THINK ABOUT GRANDMA'S
FAMILY...SHE AND HER SIBLINGS DROVE OUT TO OREGON WHEN THEY WERE CONTACTED
ABOUT BEING HEIRS TO OLIVER'S ESTATE THERE. THAT HAD TO HAVE BEEN A FUN
TRIP..AND MAYBE THE LAST TIME THE SISTERS AND BROTHER WERE ALONE TOGETHER
EVER...THIS TRIP OCCURRED WHEN I WAS A YOUNG KID BUT I REMEMBER THE
EXCITEMENT. THERE WASN'T MUCH OF AN INHERITANCE, BUT IT WAS A WORTHWHILE
TRIP AS FAR AS FAMILY BEING TOGETHER MADE IT..AND, LATER IN LIFE, MY
MATERNAL GRANDMA MARY CHASE HANNEMAN, GOT TO GO TO ENGLAND WITH HER
DAUGHTER, LAVANCHE TO VISIT LAVANCHE'S DAUGHTER, GALE BEVERLY RETTINGER
DIAS. MY MOTHER WAS BLESSED TO TRAVEL TO GERMANY, FRANCE AND ENGLAND WITH MY
SISTER MARY SCOTT HOWE HERMAN..WHILE VISITING MARY SCOTT'S DAUGHTER HEIDI
SCOTT KRETZ WHOSE HUSBAND WAS STATIONED IN GERMANY. MOM IS NOW 90 AND WILL
BE 91 ON AUGUST 17, 2009. SHE HAS DEMENTIA PRETTY BADLY AND IS IN A NURSING
HOME IN ANTIGO, WI WHERE SHE LIVED MOST OF HER LIFE.
DO YOU LIVE IN THE STATES OR IN EUROPE? I HAVEN'T BEEN TO EUROPE IN QUITE A
WHILE BUT DID GET TO GO TO SPAIN FOR A MONTH IN 1984 TO STUDY..I TAUGHT
SPANISH FOR 11 YEARS. MY OTHER TRIPS TO EUROPE AND ONE TO TURKEY WERE ALL
FREE..MY EX HUSBAND EARNED THE TRIPS THROUGH HIS WORK IN THE INSURANCE
AGENCY HE OWNED.
I'VE WORN YOUR EYES OUT..SORRY.

Good morning..
You have some good information here, as I have a James Chase born about
1841 who looks promising. He has brothers George and Oliver and sisters
Janett and Ann J. either of whom could be Annette
Do you have any dates for these folks ? Could James A. Chase's father be
George Andrew Chase marr. to Mary Mead ? If so I may have the matching
family.
Cheers !

Hi Judy,
Lucky you, living on Cape Cod. I was there for 12 days, several years ago, and loved it. I have 4 members on the Mayflower, no big deal, but many of them lived on Cape Cod. I hope to get back someday. As a descendant of Aquila, we are not cousins, but I have followed your notes on this website, and would love to have lunch with you.\

HI
Still life in the Group then! It is good to see Judy ,Derek,,Lonnie and lots
of long time and new members tracing their Chase/Chace ancestry.
It was a great shame that the original Chase/Chace web site crashed and
like an idiot I did not back it up.
Keep up the good work and keep well

I'm fairly new to this list, even though I've been a Chase researcher for
more than 20 years. I've been reading about the site not being updated and
I liked the map where it shows which states have a Chase researcher. If
anyone ever updates the map, please show a Chase researcher in Alabama.
Thanks,

Yep, I am still here - continuing to trace my Chase ancestry, among others.
For those of you who may not know, we have left Southern California and

all the spirits and shades of the William Chase extended family! It's a
change, to be sure, but I feel right at home here....(Although

I serve as Treasurer for the Massachusetts Society of Mayflower Descendants

So - if I can help anyone out here with anything local, please feel free to

Thanks, too, to Jeffrey, who has so generously stepped forward to help

Hey DIck
Thank you. That is good.
I had submitted more ancestors for my DNA listing but you are correct this
is an older version of the DNA page. I am some of the others in the list
didn't have enough ancestors to connect back to William or whomever at that
point.
Cheers !

I'm not sure if people are asking about the CHASE DNA Testing project - but
here is the latest news that I have.
If you go to the Family Tree DNA page
http://www.familytreedna.com/
and type in Chase in the upper right area for "surname search", click the
search button, you will come to a page discussing the Chase results. There
have been 52 people tested and 40 are members of the surname project.
Once you get to that page, about halfway down, you will see the heading
"Projects". Click on the blue underlined Chase (Project). That will bring
you to another page where if you click on
http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Chase-Chace/ you will come to yet
another page. Click on the "Y-DNA Results" category and see the results of
the 33 people who have agreed to have their testing made public.
According to the page, Charlie Scott is still administrator of the project
and he can be reached at: chaseDNAteam(a)aol.com. I am not sure if he has
been actively updating this - or, is even still involved!
For those of you who have results, and are not listed, you can compare them
with those who are and discover if you are related to William or
Aquila/Thomas.
Judy Chace Needham
The only version of the Chase Surname Resource Center, which includes the
DNA Project is at:
http://web.archive.org/web/20050126111931/chase.genealogysurnames.com/ This
version is not as up to date as the one that was online when the server
crashed and lost all our data.
The DNA Project test results may not be up to date, for I think that there
have been additional people who have had a test done, but I've never
received the results to add to the site page.
The Chase Family Tree data base that was associated with the Resource Center
is still available at:
http://chase.familytreeguide.com/tree_index.php I still have Administrator
rights to that data base should anyone want to add to it (if I can still
remember how to do that !)

HI DEREK.
I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT THE DATABASE BEING UPDATED. I QUIT WORKING ON THE
FAMILY TREE OF THE CHASE'S BECAUSE I GOT TOO CONFUSED...I DO KNOW THAT MY
GREAT GRANDFATHER WAS JAMES CHASE FROM ST. JOHN, NEW BRUNSWICK AND THAT HE
MARRIED MARY GROB AND THEY RESIDED IN PINE RIVER, WI.
HIS MOTHER IS BURIED IN MARATHON COUNTY..WAUSAU, WI BY HIM AND HIS WIFE AND
SOME OF THEIR FAMILY LIKE LITTLE JAMES WHO DIED AS A YOUNG CHILD.
THANKS FOR THE CONTACT.
SINCERELY,
CATHY HOWE GERNT

I have found 2 sources that state Benjamin Chase, son of Edward and Sybil Slade married Alice Fassett Spalding, sister to my G-G Grandmother Sophronia Marie Spaulding Quinby. Benjamin was captain of a whaling ship, The Falcon, which sank with both Captain Chase and son Alphonso C. 1823-23. Has anyone found any records or information about Capt. Chase, his ship? Supposedly the crew of the ship was not lost so I am hoping that survivors may have provided some information about what happened. Thank you.
Hello all,
This is Joyce Chase Jarvis in Ashland, OR. I paid for my nephew Robert L. Chase to have his DNA analyzed, yet his results are not evident in the DNA section. Why is this so? I tried a year or two ago to get them listed. I am not sure who is managing the DNA website now, but I would like his results to be published. Is there some confusion because he is not a member, although I, his aunt, am.
Thank you,
Joyce Chase Jarvis

Hi Cathy
Thank you for your kind message. I have been completely unable to find the
name Grob in the records of Saint John and indeed Atlantic Canada. Are you
sure this is correct? Have you managed to get any documents like birth or
death certificates?
I would be very interested.
You have a good night!
Derek
