Marian,
Go to the DAR Library at 1776 D street (next door to the Red Cross). They
have many sources including many family history books, as well as actual
source books. If you are not a Daughter, it will cost $6 to use the Library
for a day. It is well worth it.

Thanks, Jeffrey, for all your great information. Am anxious to check it out
as well as other places you mentioned. In the meantime, I will be checking
on the websites you also included. Also, thanks to Keith for his
suggestions as well. It's great to have on-line help from those who are
more experienced in genealogy look-ups. Marian

My many thanks to all who responded to my out of place note. When I wrote it
I meant to send it to the Houck list and mistakenly sent it to Chase (my
wife's line). My humble apology to you all but many thanks for the good info
you produced.
Thanks again, Don Houck

In keeping with the current thread about how it might have looked in the
past.
What did your town look like according to Penny Postcards?
Click on the state and then on the county to see old penny postcards from
that area.....pretty neat.

Have anyone of my Chase relatives ever found information at the Library of Congress in Washington D.C.? I am going to be in the area in June for the graduation of one of my grandsons and thought it might be possible to find information on my Chase line. Would appreciate any information as to where and how to look or possibly some other source. Thanks Mfrazier(a)we.rr.com
Hi Harriet,
Thanks for the note. I have already gone to Google and I must have
gone through a hundred of them and there is a lot of info there but nothing
answers the question of why was it named Houck's Ridge. There must have been
a Houck living there. Perhaps we will never know but I shall keep trying. I
have found that in 1831 the sheriff in Gettysburg was selling some land for
the heirs of John Houck. This must have been the father of the John Houck I
found on the 1850 and 1860 Census. I cannot find a death statement for John
Houck in 1830 or before. It's just another Question that I have. Just
thought someone may know who was there.
Thanks again, Don Houck

Nancy,
Gosh, I hope some perfectionist doesn't see your reply. You actually admit to making mistakes in a hurried reply? My, my.
OK William b. 1621 is a Jr. Also, I have two Thankful Chase's. One b. 1711/12, d/o Isaac ( I have 3 wife's for Isaac: Mary Berry, Chairty, and an unknown) and his first wife Mary Berry, and another whom was the d/o their son, Isaac Jr., and his wife Thankful Maker. Correct ??
I descend from Isaac Jr's son Judah, but there is a question wheather his mother was Thankful Maker or an unknown second wife.

Hi Bruce,
Thank you! You are right about Charity. I checked my information again
and for some reason she was listed incorrectly. I know at some point I
had her listed correctly but I checked with Desc. of Wm Chase and have
her listed properly now.
Thankful was a Chase and I'm sorry if my sketchy info made you think she
wasn't. I wrote that reply hurriedly. Temperance Chase married Nathaniel
Baker III. I called Wm Chase a junior because his father is the first
William we know about. It is not known who the first Wm's parents were.

I am new to this list and have just had a major breakthrough in a brickwall!
I have been searching for William Wingate for donkeys' years and have just
found the parents and siblings of his wife, Sarah Chase. She was born about
1788. She has stated on later census records that she was born in Maryland,
but her parents lived, at least for some time, in Kent County, Delaware. She
and William lived in Queen Anne's County, Maryland until about 1814 when
they moved to Boone County, KY, where she died in 1852.
Sarah Chase Wingate was the daughter of William Chase and his wife Rebecca.
Sarah's siblings were: William Jr., Ann, Rebecca, Elizabeth, Mariah and John
and a half-brother, Samuel Chase.
Sarah is mentioned in a guardian account, Kent County, DE as being the wife
of William Wingate. Her father, William Chase died intestate in 1813.
She is also mentioned in the will of her half-brother, Samuel Chase of QAC
who died in 1849. He left her some money and said that she was the wife of
William Wingate and that they had moved to Boone County, KY.
One of Sarah's sisters, Ann, was married to Noah Merchant, who was listed as
a Captain in the 35th Regt., Maryland Militia in the War of 1812. William
Wingate was a Private in that Company.
I hope that folks on this list can help me with additional information about
this family; especially any connections that might help me find William
Wingate's parents. He was born in Delaware about 1774.
Thanks,
Suzanne Russell

Hi Betty,
Yes, I would love a copy of that report. Thank you so much for your offer, I
really appreciate it. The Baker line is goes into my Crowell line several
times...and eventually it all ties into my Beach line...along with my Child,
Beverly, Hayward, Ogden, Eddy, Kennicutt, Kent and a ton more in Cape Cod... My
Baker goes back to Baker/Twining which is the same as Sir Winston Churchill's
mother's line, Jenny Jerome's line.

I have a report on a branch of Chases that were related to my family and one
of them ultimately married a General Stewart. If you like, I can email the
report to you if you would like to have it. Betty Hayden Bickham
Hi all,
I am new to the list. I have a few different Chase who married into my
lines... Do any of them connect to each other? They are driving me batty.
William Chase II, b. ? and when ?
Children:
Thankful Chase, b. ? and where ? m. 19 Oct 1732, Jacob Baker, b. 16 Oct
1707, d. 21 Oct 1785, their children were: Daniel, Jacob, Amos, Thankful, son and
Elisha Baker
Thankful Chase also had sisters Elizabeth Chase and Temperance Chase, who
was married to Nathaniel ?... and a brother named John Chase who was married to
Elizabeth Baker
I also have a second Thankful CHASE who is the daughter of Isaac CHASE and
Mary Berry and the granddaughter of John Chase and Elizabeth Baker, b. 06 Apr
1649... With so many given names the same and they kept seeming to marry with
families that also had the same surnames it has become very confusing.. I am
hoping some one can help me sort out all of these people.
Temperance Chase, b. ? and where ?, m. 23 Jan 1745, Nathaniel Baker III, b.
20 Nov 1711... she was the daughter of William Chase the 2nd... who was her
mother? Where was she born?
Thanks for any help sorting out this mess...

Hello All,
Does anyone happen to have any information about Cornelius Chace born
in Massachusetts (probably Freetown) in about 1817? He married Maria
Macomber in July 27, 1838 in Freetown. Does anyone have information on
Cornelius's parents or grandparents?
Cheers,
Jeffrey Chace
