My Chase ancestry (5th ggrandfather) includes Zephaniah Chase, born in Martha’s Vineyard 14 Mar 1748, died Lexington, N.Y., 30 May 1828.
Excerpted from the April 1912 issue of the Chase Chronicles:
Zephaniah Chase’s brother, Benjamin, was a sea captain, and Zephaniah accompanied him on several whaling voyages., although he was a a joiner and cabinet maker by trade. (end of excerpt)
Zephaniah Chase came from Martha’s Vineyard to Green County, New York, in 1787. There is much more information on him, including the Chronicles Vol. 18 Jan-Apr 1928, but not very much on his brother the sea captain. They were descendants of the Thomas line: Benjamin Chase (Abel, Joseph, Lt. Isaac), b. Dec 23 1745, Edgartown; married in Nantucket 27 Feb 1768, Elizabeth Brock, daughter of Thomas and Patience (Gardner) Brock, baptized in Nantucket 13 Aug. 1747, born in 1745. She died in Nantucket, 25 Oct. 1801. Seven Generations of the Descendants of Aquila and Thomas Chase, Chase and Chamberlain, p. 491, 498, etc. I believe that Benjamin was mentioned in another issue of the Chase Chronicles, but I can’t remember which one at this time.
Zephaniah Chase lived in Woodstock (considered to be in Ulster County at that time?), later in Lexington, Greene County, N.Y. and in Windham, N.Y.

Does anyone have any information about the families
that migrated from Nantucket and MV to the Hudson
area?
Have found several stories such as this one with no
specifics:
http://www.hrmm.org/hudsonny/smart.htm
I am still working on the mariner project, and have
found references to "Capt. Chase" on the Hudson, and
also running schooners along the east coast through
the port of NY. Unfortunately, most don't have first
names, and it is obvious there is more than one Capt.
Chase.
After my last post, it was mentioned that this
research has already been completed. Can anyone tell
me where to find the results?
I think this could also be of use to those who are
searching in Brooklyn and Long Island, and to those
who are tracking Chases from MA to NY to points west.
Thanks,
Patricia Inman

Good Evening,
I attended an auction preview this afternoon at Butterfields in San
Francisco. They are owned by the Bonhams Auction House.
I found a very nice sampler that had been stitched by Hannah Chase, born in
Haverhill in 1780. It is item 1010 in the Butterfields catalog. The
estimated price is $8,000 to $12,000.
The auction will be held at Butterfields this coming Monday, Feb. 26,
starting at 10 am PST.
You can easily view it on the Bonhams.com or Butterfields.com websites.
Butterfields will take absentee or phone bids.

Hello All,
Does anyone have any information on an Albert M. Chace who was born about
1892 in Massachusetts and married Harriet W.? They had a child name Richard
Lincoln Chace who was born February 22, 1920 in New Bedford, Massachusetts.
Does anyone know who Albert's parents were? Grandparents?
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers,

Hi Jeffrey,
I could not find an Alonzo Chase or Chace in any of the Census records I
have. If he lived in Fulton County, he was never listed in the Censuses
from 1860 to 1880.
Richard
Hello Richard,
I would be interested if there is anything about Alonzo Chase or Chace. He
was a lawyer in Fulton County for a couple of years during that time period
(I think in the middle to late 1860s). Did you find him in the census
records for Fulton County?
Cheers,
Jeffrey Chace

Good Afternoon,
For all of you who are researching in Upstate New York, especially around
Oswego, Wayne and Cayuga Counties, be sure to check out the website:
_http://fultonhistory.com/_ (http://fultonhistory.com/)
It was recommended to me by the Oswego County Historian and the Oswego city
librarian.
This website has a very fine inventory of early Upstate NY newspapers that
can be readily searched. More newspapers are added every Sunday. I have
located all sorts of relatives, read about their daily activities, deaths,
marriages, etc. and in a couple of cases have discovered new cousins.

I have hit a brick wall with Phebe R. Chase born 1830 in New York. I have no
other information about her parents or siblings. She married William L.
Stevenson born 1825 died 1904. She died 14 July 1899 and they are buried in New
Brunswick, New Jersey.
Does anyone have her in their family?
Thank you for any help you can give me.

You guys got me hooked. I have started to gather data on this CHASE family
from in or nearby Boston and have started a file on them. I just put a
query on the CHASE message board on rootsweb to see if anyone knows more.

Howard E. Chase
(http://www.legacy.com/orlandosentinel/Guestbook.asp?Page=GuestBook&Person...) CHASE, HOWARD E., age 80, beloved husband,
father and grandfather peacefully went to be with the Lord on Saturday,
February 10, 2007. He was born August 25, 1926 to the late Joseph and Minnie
Chase in Grand Rapids, MI, where he attended Central High School. Upon
graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy and served two and a half years during WWII.
Following his return from service to his country, he attended business school and
began a career in accounting. Howard enjoyed singing and was a member of the
Metropolitan Choir of Praise. In 1972, he and his wife, Marjorie, relocated
to Orlando, FL. Shortly after their arrival, he established an independent
accounting practice as an Enrolled Agent. He was active in his church, serving
nine years as Classical Treasurer for Classis Florida of the Christian
Reformed Church, and was also a member of the Messiah Choral Society. Additionally,
Howard volunteered with the American Red Cross of Central Florida, serving as
disaster chairman and, later, as government liaison. He is survived by his
loving wife of 58 years, Marjorie Nagelkirk Chase; his three daughters, Linda
Shepard (Bill Fleming) of Newport News, VA, Victoria Brinks (Douglas) of
Belmont, MI, and Joan Chase of Orlando, FL; his four grandchildren, Rebecca
Cutter (David), David and Sarah Brinks, and Christopher Shepard; and his
cherished friends, Norman and Karen Corbin. The family has requested in lieu of
flowers that contributions be made in Howard's memory to the Hospice of the
Comforter, 480 W. Central Parkway, Altamonte Springs, FL 32714. A Memorial Service
is at 1PM on Wednesday, February 14, 2007 at the Pine Ridge Presbyterian
Church, 3900 S. Hiawassee Road, Orlando, FL. Arrangements are by CAREY HAND

Bill,
Interesting site you sent on Oliver Chase re NEECO and DICK.......I love
that bit about your dt. and the Neckie Wafers when she was young......!
Ours was abt. like that with ice cream ......and I sure wish she had given
THAT up.......not that that she's heavy......but it doesn't hurt as one
gets older.........! But.....her mother loves the stuff, so it's doubtful
that she w/ever give ice cream up !
I'm actually surprised that someone on the list doesn't appear to know he or
she's related to these Chases. My gg gfather was a Daniel Chase......and in
business.......but not the candy business to my knowledge.

Hi All,
As some of you might know, we spend the winters in FL. The following info
appeared in our monthly park news bulletin. I've never heard of these
Chases nor orf any Chase connected with NECCO...... Just thought it was a
fun fact and wondered if anyone was related.
"NECCO's Sweethearts Conversation Hearts, those pastel sugar candies wth
short sayings printed on them, celebrate their 105th anniversary this year.
The hearts are America's best-selling candy for Valentine's Day, with more
then 8 billion manufacured each year. The idea actually began in the
1860's, when printed paper mottos appeared in "cockles," candies formed in
the shape of a scallop, or cockle shell. Daniel Chase, whose brother,
Oliver Chase, founded NECCO, devised a way to print sayings on lozenges,
which became popular at parties and weddings. Many of today's sayings date
back to the original Conversatin Hearts, including "Be Mine," "Be Good," "Be
True," "Kiss Me," and "Sweet Talk." In the 1990's NECCO began updating some
sayings, including "Fax Me" and
later, "E-Mail Me." Some of the words may be new, but the candy - made of
sugar, corn syrup, gelatin, gums, coloring, and flavoring - hasn't changed
since it debuted in 1902."
Happy Valentines Day!
