Hi,Muggs
I have received your request to access the Chase/Chace database.
If this is only to obtain information of people in the database you do not
require any permission.
Just fill in the details in the "Search" box in the top Right Hand cornre
and you will get the results.
If however you wish to MODIFY information then I cannot,as yet permit that.
The alternative would be to submit your own gedcom to me and I can add it
as a separate "TREE" . If one of the people's details in your TREE exactly
matches an existing person in the database I can "MERGE the information in
your TREE with the current database

Hello, ALL,
I am now getting to grips with the Chase/Chace Database in its new form.
There are a whole host of options but currently I am having to learn how to apply them
I have concluded that the better way would be to ask you all as a Group if there are changes YOU would like made to your own personal data.
If there are thos among you who have not yet got your information in the database I would ask you to hold off for a while so I can ensure that information is added correctly.
It is my hope that it will be possible for you all to have your own"Tree" included in the database with the ability to edit as YOU desire,

I came across a site by Charlie Scott and he had the following Amarintha listed from the 1880 census. Would anyone have any information on any of these women?
CHASE, Amarintha- Wife b- 1824 Female White Born-RI Census taken -RI
CHASE, Amarintha-wife b. 1840 female White born-NY census taken - NY
CHASE, Amarintha-dau b.1859 female white born-RI census-taken RI

Meg,
I have received a request for you to access the data in the Chase/Chace database.
I am not sure if this is what you intended for if all you want to do is look at the family trees then you can do this by simply entering details in the "Search" window and you can look at anything you want.
The database is the result of many people's input and a lot of work by me to ensure there are no anomalies
Therefore, at this time, if you want to access and change the data itself I cannot permit this.
If I did it would create a precedent. Although I understand it may be possible to restrict the actual data you would wish to modify, I am nor yet familiar enough with the new system to know how to set the boundaries.
Therefore if you want something changed, in this case, I will do it for you

Hi,Linda,
I notice you refer to Land Grants in Nova Scotia.
Most of your information appears to have come from local records.
When I contacted Public Archives of Nova Scotia, about 19 years agom they
referred me to the Land Records Office. I contacted them and they sent me a
copy of their Grants index, showing all the Grants issued to "HUME". From
this I obtained a copy of both the Grant, and the application for it.
Apparently the Applicant had to state how he/she qualified for a Grant.
In my case it was because the Hume brothers who applied stated they were
sons of an Eli HUME and they recounted Eli's Loyalist Army record and where
he was born, in this case Manchester England.
From this I obtained records of the brothers' ancestry here in England
Hope this is of some use or interest,
Keith Hume

Barb,
Can you tell me more about your letter of 1768?
I missed the message that you are replied to. Although my Chases descend
from another Chase line in Nova Scotia, I have also researched the
descendants of Stephen Chase of Cornwallis, Nova Scotia.
Millicent Submit Chase, wrote a document in 1936 about the descendants of
her ancestor Stephen Chase. She wrote that Stephen Chase and his three sons
Stephen Jr., Joseph, and Jethro went to Nova Scotia.
"Apparently father and sons divided forces - for in the Town Book of
Liverpool, Stephen Chase has a grant of land, in the Township, but he never
occupied it and his name does not appear there again. As there was a
community of Quakers near there interested in whale fishing, he may have
been induced by them to go there, but he did not remain and soon joined his
three sons in Cornwallis, whose lands were granted to them in 1763, and in
the year following Stephen Chase Sr. received his Grant. The Grant is
recorded in the Crown Lands Book. Others to receive lands at the same time
were Porter, Cove, Kinsman, and Blackmer. In The assessment roll for
Cornwallis 1765, appears the following:
L. S.
Jethro & Joseph Chase 4 4
Stephen Chase Jr, 4 4
Stephen Chase 4 4
Assessors: William West, Isaac Bigelow, Handley Chipman
In common with many of the early settlers - the Chase men chose the North
Mountain land for their home lace and tho there is no exact record of it
found, it is a family story that the original homestead was near
what is now known as Halls Harbour and that at least three generations were
born there - and removed to the Valley lands between 1825 - 1830.
In the Chipman Collection, Kings County records in the Provincial Archives
of Nova Scotia, there is this reference in some road survey papers: "1813
folder - A road leading from a certain place called Sheffields in Cornwallis
to a place called Chase's Harbour." No map in existence shows any place of
that name, nor is any other reference to be found.
In 1771 papers there is a mention of Chase's Grist mill - the following
letter or petition in all its original spelling, mentions a mill, persumably
the family property:
"To the Justices of The Court of General sessions
These are to Informe that Isaac Bigelow surveyor of highways for the year
past hath neglected the highways so that there is no passing with horse nor
teme in the Road on the North sid of Little Habitant River up to the mill
greatly to the prejudice of the Inhabitants and a material road for all on
that sid of the s. river. and likewise he hath neglected one of the the
biggest roads in the town namely the mill road so that it is not passabell
many times and at best very bad passing and in danger many times of life and
many complints have been made to him, the said souiever, but to no purpos.
when there us inhabitants that not worked on the high ways the years past.
Witnesses William Canidays. Amos Sheffield. Isaac Bigelow Ju. Stephen
Harrington and many more beside the nou inhabiing population by which
neglects the inhabitants hath suffered much as you may be informed by Peter
Wickwire and sseveral more Grand
Jurors of our town, I respect and remane your friend
Stephen Chase
Cornwallis May ye 25 - 1767"
At the time of the granting of land, everyone was given a certain proportion
of meadow upland, etc. and it was to this that Stephen Chase, Born 1770,
came and built, about 1830, on the present (1936) Chase homestead.
The following is from <http://www.rootsweb.com/~nskings/placenames3.html>
SHEFFIELD MILLS
This rural area is located on the Upper Habitant Creek in central Nova
Scotia. It was named for the Sheffield family who were early settlers. Mason
and Frank A. Sheffield acquired land here on what was the site of Stephen
Chase and Company Mills, or Mills Montique, probably in the late 18th
century.

Ive rescued an old photograph of Mary STEWART which was taken at the
Averys Studio in Pulaski, New York. The photograph appears to have been
taken in the 1860s or 1870s with Mary likely in her 20s at the time. In
addition to her name, someone has written whose Mother Elmira HUBBARD
STEWART was sister of Caroline HUBBARD wife of Daniel J. BURDICK,
Grandfather of Bertha HUTCHINS CHASE and others in addition to her name.
Based on limited research I was able to find Marys family in various census
records:
1870 census of Richland, NY:
Thomas STEWART, age 47, born NY, a Wool Carder
Almira STEWART, age 55, born NY, Keeping House
Mary STEWART, age 21, born NY, At Home
William SHARPE, age 68, born England, A Wool Carder
1880 census of Pulaski, NY:
Thomas STEWART, age 69, born NY, a Clothier, parents born NY
Elmira STEWART, wife, age 67, born NY, Keeping House, parents born NY
Mary A. STEWART, dau, age 32, born NY
1900 census of Richland, NY:
Mary A. STEWART, age 52, born Dec 1847, born NY, parents born NY, a
Capitalist
1910 census of Richland, NY:
Mary A. STEWART, age 62, born NY, parents born NY, own income
The family of Daniel J. BURDICK can be located through census records as
follows:
1860 census of Albion, NY:
Daniel J. BURDICK, age 42, a Farmer, born NY
Caroline L. BURDICK, age 34, born NY
Brayton D. BURDICK, age 18, born NY
Althide C. BURDICK, age 13, born NY
Jennette P. BURDICK, age 12, born NY
Martha J. BURDICK, age 8, born NY
1870 census of Albion, NY:
Daniel J. BURDICK, age 52, a Farmer, born NY
Lovina C. BURDICK, age 47, Keeping House, born NY
Nettie BURDICK, age 21, born NY
Martha J. BURDICK, age 18, born NY
Ira L. BURDICK, age 9, Attending School, born NY
Julia BURDICK, age 6, Attending School, born NY
1880 census of Albion, NY:
Caroline BURDICK, a widow, age 55, born NY, Keeping House
Ira BURDICK, age 19, born NY, at Home
Julia BURDICK, age 16, born NY, at Home
I was also able to locate Bertha Evelyn HUTCHINS b. 25 Feb 1890 in Albion,
NY to parents Warren Thurston HUTCHINS and Julia Evelyn BURDICK and died 27
Jul 1971. Bertha married Floyd A. CHASE and in 1920 they were living in
Orwell, NY with census records providing the following information:
Floyd A. CHASE, age 32, born NY, parents born NY, a Motor Truck Chauffeur
Bertha E. CHASE, wife, age 29, born NY, parents born NY
Theda CHASE, dau, age 1 year + 8 months, born NY
I am hoping to locate someone from this family so that this wonderful old
photograph can be returned to the care of family. If you are a member of
this family, or know someone who might be, please contact me.
Thanks,
Shelley

Hello All,
Sorry, forgot to mention in my last email that there is also some
information in the Banks Manuscripts of interest to the Aquila and Thomas
descendents out there. Banks also investigated whether there was a
connection between William and the Chases of Bucks. He came to the same
conclusion as John Carroll Chase - no relation. However, his research
reveals what are probably some little know information about Chases in and
around London. You will find these images along with the information about
William at my website at http://www.chace.demon.nl Click on Banks
Manuscripts on the left hand side.
Cheers,
Jeffrey Chace
http://www.chace.demon.nl
Hello All,
It has been a long time since I have updated my website. Just wanted to
let you know that I have finally done so and have added scanned images of
pages of the Banks Manuscripts which were the basis for the 1930 book The
Winthrop Fleet of 1630 which claims that William Chase was from Wivenhoe,
Essex, England.
While in Washington DC last year, I went to the Library of Congress and
took a look at the Manuscripts on microfilm to see if Banks had found
absolute proof that William Chase was indeed from Wivenhoe. I found no
absolute proof, however there was a lot of interesting information and I
can see why Banks believed (as I also believe) that William was from
Wivenhoe. At my website I have posted all of the pages from the Banks
Manuscripts which contain a reference to the name Chase or Chace. There is
even a 1929 letter to Banks from the Rector of Wivenhoe!
Also, the first four pages posted are a list of all information contained
in the Banks Manuscripts. If you go to my website at
http://www.chace.demon.nl and click on Banks Manuscripts on the left hand
side, you will be directed to the page which contains a link to the
images.
Please take a look and post any comments. I will post my analysis of the
pages later when I have more time.
Cheers,
Jeffrey Chace
