DROWNED - A dispatch dated at Yreka, May 6th, has the annexed:
George W. CHASE, ex-County Treasurer, was drowned this morning by the
upsetting of a boat in Klamath river.
Hello everyone, my name is Lana CHASE and i am from Cowley County, Kansas. I am
looking for the Parents of my gggrandfather Hiram Baruch CHASE. Here is the info I
have on Hiram to help in the search for his Parents.
Hiram Baruch Chase was born on June 10, 1829 somewhere in Virginia.
Hiram moved as a youth to Ohio and then on to Iowa by May 1845. This would of made
him almost 17 yrs. old. Did he move on his own??
I find Hiram in the 1850 Iowa Wapello co., census living with the KNIGHT family. The
KNIGHT's are his future wifes Uncle and Aunt. He is listed as 21 yrs. and occupation
as a farmer. So where is his parents? If they were alive wouldn't he be living with them?
Or did he move because he was old enough to be on his own?
Hiram married Almira TROTTER on Nov. 17, 1853 in Wapello Co., Iowa. They had
several children. I have the names and dates if needed.
Hiram is listed in the Jasper Co., Iowa military records as enlisted on Aug. 22, 1862
and discharged on Oct. 22 1863 as disabled.
Hiram then moved with his wife and two of his children to Port Kenyon, Humbolt co.,
California in Oct. of 1876. This is where he lived out the rest of his life. He died on
Sept. 27, 1887 in Port Kenyon. Was buried in Ferndale cemetery. His obit doesn't mention his parents at all. Neither does his death certificate.
As you see i have lots of info on Hiram. I am hoping that someone else is researching
this CHASE line.
I tried to do some detective work and look at the cesus for Virginia, Ohio and Iowa to
find a common first name. It was all too confusing to me and i have a limited access
to the info or there just wasn't a census record in the free sites. If anyone can help
I would greatly apprieciate it.
Thanks to all of you and I must say all of you are not apprieciated enough for what you
do in helping other. Of corse I believe CHASE's are special people with a giving
heart. Good luck to all on your CHASE search.

132 great grandchildren, 3 of whom were of the fifth generation.
The time when Stephen5 Chase first settled in Durham, Maine, is still
uncertain, as is also the exact time of his migration to Unity, Maine, then
called “Twenty-five Mile Pond Plantation," but tradition tells us that
he, with his small family, followed up the Kennebec in a boat to the mouth
of the Sebasticook, a small tributary river, finding its source in Unity
Pond, now called Windermere Lake.
Pushing on to the head of the Sebasticook, he made a landing, choosing a
place for a home on an eminence, called "The Horseback," overlooking the
pond. Its shores still echoed the war cry of the Indian, and in the forest
still roamed the bear, the wildcat, the moose and the deer. The lake alive
with fish gave, with the abundant game of the forest, ample return for their
hardihood and dangers encountered.

THE JOURNEYINGS OF STEPHEN CHASE
And some of his Ancestors and Descendants.
By Lucy E. Ayer of Needham, Mass.,
Continued from April issue
This peaceful Quaker family were soon joined by other venturesome
people, progenitors of our future race. Where their first cabin stood
there is now but a slight trace, a hollow in the ground. Two tall pines
near by guarding the then entrance to the home, are eloquent of the past.
On a recent visit to the place by the author, these two trees were
laughingly named Lemuel and Benjamin, in honor of two of our Bartlett
forebears, who came hither to win Hannah and Esther,
great-great-grand-daughters of Stephen5 Chase. At the end of the lane is a
large colonial brick house, built by his son, Hezekiah6 Chase, and across
the square is another house, similar but somewhat larger, built by his
son-in-law, Lemuel Bartlett, my great grandfather.
On the shore of the pond is the cemetery with many old grey stones
marking the last resting places of the early settlers. Over it settles the
peace of the declining day, the sun's last rays outlining the beautiful
view of lake and shore fringed by wooded land.
Stephen5 Chase built the first frame buildings in the town, a house and
a barn. One old citizen recalls an incident told him by his
grandfather; when he, the grandfather, was a small boy, his mother sent him
to borrow a darning needle of Mrs. Chase. On his journey for the needle
through forest and underbrush. Oh, the anxious care that hung upon the
fate of that
darning needle!

The children of Lemuel Bartlett and Hannah Chase Bartlett are of the
Seventh generation in this country, both on the Bartlett and Chase sides of
the family.
The author of this sketch is of the ninth generation on the Chase,
Bartlett and Ayer sides.
Perhaps at some future time I may be able to give you more of the early
history of Stephen5 Chase.
Hi All,
All I have for Stephen is that his wife was Esther Buffington and her parents were Benjamin Buffington and Hannah Buffum. Not certain that Buffum is spelled right.
Am hoping someone has more on this line!
Thanks so much!

Hi Jeffery,
The closest Charles Chase I have is my G Uncle, born 28 Aug 1856. I am
guessing at Vt. as that is where his brother, my grandfather Gilbert Paddleford
CHASE, was born in McIndoe Falls, VT. 11 Aug 1858. No other info at this time.
If there are any descendents of Christopher Columbus Chase and Susan
Sanborn I would love to hear from you. He is my great grandfather.

HI,ALL,
I have contacted the server owner and he tells me that the problem was that mo backup had ever been done.
There has been no hard disk drive failure but I will have to reconstruct the whole site.
Our sub domain should be ready to allow this in a couple of hours but it is unlikely that I will make a start before Sunday as I am away.
I will keep you all informed.
If anyone has suggestions regarding the site now would be an excellent time to let me know about them.
I am REALLY pleased that I do not have to reconstruct the database which is still working OK,

I was wondering if anyone has information on Charles Chase born in Vermont
in about 1841? According to the 1880 Census, his father was born in
Massachusetts and his mother in Vermont. In 1880, Charles was married to
Ann, age 36, lived in Platte Valley, Nebraska, and they had the following
children: Elwin age 14 born NY, Clinton age 12 born NY, Hattie age 9 born
NY, Herbert age 4 born Iowa, and Frank age 2 born Iowa.
Does anyone have any more information about Charles or his parents and/or
grandparents?
Cheers,
Jeffrey Chace

Hi Leta,
It is my understanding that the LDS sites now have computers that access all
the programs offered by Ancestry.com. It is a good marketing device by
Ancestry.com.
I have not checked this out lately, but if the above is true, simply go to
your nearest site and go on the One World Tree.
Good Luck,
Rex Chase
