I'm hoping someone could help me. I found the Chase Website and looked
at the DNA information listed. I notice that David Chase (7240) is a
descendant of Julius Increase Chase from Traverse City Mi. If someone
would be able assist me in getting in touch with David it would be
greatly appreciated. My great grandfather was Julius Chase. Thank you

This ONLY applies if you're running Windows; other operating systems
(Mac OS, Linux, and other flavors of UNIX) are NOT affected. OTOH,
regardless of non-Windows platform, you *really* should have the most
up-to-date virus protection.

I know it's very frustrating. Me I'm getting bounced mail from two list
that have viruses attached to them. The best we all can do is run our
virus protections and make sure we don't have it plus those who don't
have virus protection can get it. Now please don't say you can't get
the virus cause you don't open attachments... Cause you DO NOT have to
open an attachment in order to get the current viruses. If your running
the internet with out protection or it's out of dated, then you might as
well drive your car without car insurance.
Below find some information on the three viruses that are out there.
If you want more info here's where I get my info...

This virus is actually attacking thru your ISP... And attacks the
following windows programs..
Products Affected by This Worm
* MicrosoftR Windows NTR 4.0
* Microsoft WindowsR 2000
* Microsoft Windows XP
* Microsoft Windows ServerT 2003
This worm has been observed to continuously scan random IP addresses and
send data to vulnerable systems. On the following system dates, it
performs a Distributed Denial Of Service attack against
windowsupdate.com:
* On the 16th to the 31st day of the following months:
* January
* February
* March
* April
* May
* June
* July
* August
* Any day in the months of September to December.
How to Tell If the Worm Is Affecting Your Computer
Some customers whose computers have been infected may not notice the
presence of the worm at all, while others who are not infected may
experience problems because the worm is attempting to attack their
computer. Typical symptoms may include Windows XP and Windows Server
2003 systems rebooting every few minutes without user input, or Windows
NT 4.0 and Windows 2000 systems becoming unresponsive.
Ok then you have his partner in crime who unlocks the doors for him..

Then we have the other one. Now this is one that has my techy husband
scratching his head. Last night he pluged in his work laptop hooked it
up to the internet (first time in over 2 weeks) and it has this virus.
How it picked it up we don't know unless it was thru the ISP connection,
since it would be the only computer that we don't have a firewall on.
Ok here's the info on this one.... Which by the way is harmless just
very annoying...

It may spoof the FROM field using email addresses found on the infected
machine so that its email messages appear to originate from one source
but was actually sent from another.
This worm deactivates its propagation routine on September 10, 2003.
This worm runs on Windows 95, 98, ME, NT, 2000, and XP.
This is a note to all members of the Chase list..... Someone on the
list has a virus. How do I know? Cause email is being sent and
listing Chase-L as the sender. So since the Chase-L list can't send
out random emails, it only means that a member of this list has the
virus, and it is going thru their address book and mailing out letters
with the virus attached.
So if you haven't done a virus check on your computer in the pass two
days PLEASE run one now. Actually it wouldn't be a bad idea if everyone
ran one just to make sure. Also if you haven't updated your virus
protection now would be a good time to do so.
If you don't have a virus protection then you really need to do so ASAP.
Thanks,

CHASE. Seven Generations of the
Descendants of Aquila and Thomas
Chase. By Chase and Chamberlain.
672pp. Illus., portraits, four indexes.
2002 (1998, 1928). #1260 $49.50
"The Chase book is one of the out-
standing American genealogies in
every respect..." - Walter Goodwin
Davis (1945).
"Recommended for anyone with
Chase ancestry in New England. It
should be a part of all genealogical
libraries with New England interests."
- The Maine Genealogist.
Aquila and Thomas Chase, brothers
from England who settled in Hampton,
New Hampshire in the late 1630s, and
their descendants for seven generations
are given in great detail using the stan-
dard Register format. The early settle-
ment of Hampton is also discussed at
some length, as are the brothers' wives'
families. Additionally, the Chase family
of Chesham, Co. Bucks, England is de-
scribed in quite some detail for the cen-
tury and a half between 1520 and 1650.
This is a quality genealogy which has
stood the test of time well: well re-
searched, well written and well docu-
mented.

Respected Uncle
I feel almost ashamed to write having been so negligent in not
writing before but presuming that it is better late than never and by
Fathers request I pen these few lines to you. Father still continues to
enjoy very good health, is quite fleshy. We have had the pleasure of
enjoying his company now about two months. Most of the time he is at work
for Mason Barney in Swanzey, has worked there now about 26 years (in the
time has built 3 or 4 vessels elsewhere), has built probably in all 60
vessels. He built last year three vessels, one Ship a 1,000 tons, a bark
300 tons, and a Schooner 260 tons, he is now about to commence a Ship 750
tons. Father is 62 years old next April the 27th day, he is getting some
advance in years will soon arrive to the appointed age of man if it is
consistent to the will of the Allwise Being who is the dispenser of all
things to spare his life till that time. Father went to Fall River last
week on a visit stopped there two three days. Uncle Miller showed him the
letters which you had written to your Brother Miller. Father brought three
home with him written in 1851 the last was dated November 7th 1851. I was
much amused in perusing them being written by the hand of an aged Uncle.
Uncle Miller wanted me to write to you to let you know that he has received
your letters. I have been out of health four years this spring have not
been able to do a days work in the time I am very dyspeptic accompanied
with enlargement of the heart. I am very much emaciated but now am able to
keep about which I find is a great blessing when compared to my previous
state of health when I was wholly confined to my bed. I feel very thankful
for this partial recovery and hoping to the blessings of God that I may yet
enjoy still better health, my kind being very weak caused by general
debility. The letter will be written accordingly, very imperfect, which I
hope you will excuse. Mothers health is very poor, is still confined to
her bed. My oldest brother Isaac M lost his wife last April, died of
Consumption, he and his two children is here to Fathers. They are all
well. Isaac works in the shipyard with Father, my next brother Albert G.
is married has been sick now about nine months had the mumps at first
which left him in a slow fever he is now gaining very gradually. He has
one Child. My next Brother, Baylies died of consumption six years ago next
June. Robert M is the fourth son who is penning these few lines to you.
Richard B. is the fifth son, the youngest. Richard is to Providence two
and three times per week, he peddles stone and Earthen ware for his brother
Albert, who is sick, to keep his regular customers that buys of him. He
puts up to Cousin Thomas Chaces they are all well there, they are all well
as usual to Uncle Millers, likewise Uncle Palmers family. Palmers daughter
Ruth is deceased, died the 8th of December last. For number of years
before her departure from this life, she lived in great degree of pain and
sufferings of body which she bore with Christian fortitude and resignation
till her last. Uncle Gideon Chace the Potter is enjoying remarkable health
considering his age 85. Your neighbour James Pierce is deceased, died very
suddenly November 7th 1851 Aged about 90 years. Cousin Theophilus, Uncle
Richards son, of whom you make enquiry in your letters to Uncle Miller is
in Taunton Mass, is to work in the Britannia works. Doing well. He is
married has no Children of his own but has a little girl who is adopted.
He and his wife were here not long since, were then enjoying good health.
I am getting tired so I will not write any more this time thinking this
will suffice for at present. Father and Mother joyns with the rest in
sending their love to you all. Robert M Chace (the son of your brother
Robert Chace) Father has gone to Barneys to begin the ship, went
yesterday. PS Please write soon you receive this, direct your letter to
Robert M Chace of Somerset Massachusetts

the fall 1850 they are pretty well of regard to property (Uncle Gideon
Chace the potter sends his love to you, he is 85 years old next month).
Yours very truly, Robert Miller Chace

the Younger, Joseph, Moses, Joseph, Burgess Thomas.
Dear Richard,
I am copying the Chase-L list in to this email so that this information
gets to others as well. Thank you for looking at the posts I made. As a
touch-typist, I can typically transcribe a letter very quickly, but this
also brings a danger with it - fingers typing in patterns. I have returned
to the letter in question, and indeed, as you have mentioned,
the "Buffingtons" as I had typed it in my transcript were all "Buffintons"
without the "g." This would affect the following persons named in the
letter:
* aunt Pattey Buffington, should be aunt Pattey Buffinton.
* Moses Buffington, should be Moses Buffinton.
* John Buffingtons famely, should be John Buffintons famely.
* Simson Buffington, whould be Simson Buffinton.
* Joseph Buffinton I typed correctly.
Furthermore, as a matter if legibility rather than fast fingers, you are
indeed correct that "Absul" Slade should be "Abner" Slade. Now that you
have informed me, I can also see it in the handwriting, but it would have
been a long shot to have deciphered that one without help. :)
One last thing, the dates I gave for births and deaths were inferred from
the text of the letter and therefore could be a bit off. It looked as if
some of the dates were off by a year either way from what you indicate.
I have also rechecked all of the spellings of names and the rest are all
correct according to the letter. Thanks for you contributions. Hope to
hear from you again.
Cheers,
Jeffrey

>From the April 1926 issue of the Chase Chronicle
The Chase family is entitled to the dis-
tinction of giving to Cornish, NH its first settler,
Deacon Dudley Chace having migrated
from Sutton, Mass., in 1765. His daughter
Alice, born Oct. 17, 1765, was the first white
child born in Cornish. Deacon Dudley
Chase and Alice (Corbett) Chase were the
parents of fifteen children,eight were
born in Sutton and seven in Cornish. Their
fifteenth child was the great Episcopal
Bishop, Philander Chase.
This family of fifteen in prominence com-
pare favorably with that of any family that
ever lived. Ithamar the father of Salmon
Portland Chase, secy of the treasury in
Pres. Lincolns cabinet, was the seventh
child of Deacon Dudley Chase. In a future
article now in preparation I shall present
sketches of the lives of this remarkable
family.
Deacon Dudley was not the only Chase

Hello Everyone
First I want to thank all of those who helped in my Judah Chase and Margaret Woodside dilemma. Seems as though the dilemms is solved. Thanks. My current dilemma is as follows
John Chase (William, William) m. Elizabeth Baker from the "Some of the Descendents of William Chase" is the following:
6. JOHN3 CHASE (William,2 William1), of Yarmouth, was born at Yarmouth 6 Apr. 1649, and died there. He married ELIZABETH BAKER, born about 1648, daughter of Francis and Isabel (Twining) Baker.
He was fined in the Plymouth Colony Court in October 1674, and was a soldier in King Philip's War in 1675. No settlement of his estate has been found in Barnstable County.
Children, born at Yarmouth:
26. i. WILLIAM,4 b. 8 July 1668.
27. ii. JOHN, b. 16 Apr. 1675.
28. iii.THOMAS, b. 20 Aug. 1679.
29. iv. JONATHAN, b. about 1692.
30. v. JEREMIAH.
31. vi. ISAAC. Page 52
I have the following:
First Generation
1. John CHASE was born on APRIL 6, 1649 in Yarmouth, Barnstable, MA. [NEED TO DEFINE SENTENCE: Legal] By Plymouth Colony Court. He served in the military in 1675 in Indian Wars(King Philips War). He served in the military in 1675 in King Philip's War. He died in 1735 in Yarmouth, Barnstable, MA. An interesting tidbit about John Chase of Yarmouth, b. there 6 April 1649:
In our William Chase "Bible" - "Some of the Descendants of William Chase of
Roxbury and Yarmouth, Mass, as contributed to NEHGS by Jon Carroll Chase of
Derry, NH as compiled for him by George Walter Chamberlain.M.S. of Malden",
mention is made that he was fined in the Plymouth Colony Court in October
1674.
Have you ever researched his offense?
Claire Dietz, on Rootsweb's Rhode Island List is copying "Records of the
Colony of New Plymouth
1633 -1689", Pub. Boston 1857; Pub. Baltimore 1987. She lists the following
copied as written:
"John Chase for comiting fornication, fined 05:00"
Hmmm-since William, John's first child with Elizabeth Baker, his wife, was
born 8 July 1668, one wonders with whom he was committing this offense. Does
this mean he was an adulterer, too?
At the time, "adultery was defined by the married status of the woman. A
married man who had sex with an unmarried woman risked whipping or a fine
for fornication, but a man, be he married or unmarried, who had sex with a
married woman risked death, as did the woman.....Sex between a man and a
single woman, even if the man was married, was not considered to be
adultery, but fornication." (Quoted from THE TIMES OF THEIR LIVES, Life,
Love and Death in Plymouth Colony by James Deetz and Patricia Scott Deetz,
W.H. Freeman Co., NY, 2000.)

Hello All,
Continuing to transcribe some of the Chace family letters, I ran across the
following adorable letter from Mary R. Chace, daughter of Miller Chace,
written to Elijah Cornell, half-brother to Miller. Mary R. Chace was the
sixth of eight children of Miller and Mary Chace. She was born 23 May
1830. Although this letter had no date on it, I suspect it was sent
together with a letter from her father dated 3 mo 14 1852. She would have
been 21 years of age.
On a bit of a side note, I thought it might interest you to notice the use
of the second person "thee" in this letter and then see that the
pronoun "you" is also used. The Quakers addressed one another as "thee"
because to use the formal word "you" would be to give undue respect to
man. So, how did the word "you" slip into this letter then? "You" is also
the plural form of the second person pronoun and when Mary uses it in her
letter she is referring to both her Uncle and Aunt. The closest thing we
have to this in modern day America would be a Texan's use of "y'all."
You'll also notice that Mary's spelling is far superior to that of her
father! :) Letter is below.
Cheers,
Jeffrey Chace

Respected Uncle
It is with pleasure that I comply with Fathers request to
address and aged Uncle, although personally unknown to me. But should I
visit the west again which I hope to do, I shall endeavour to become
acquainted with thee and family. I passed nearly two years with my brother
in Galena, found the west to be indeed a beautiful country, I suppose thee
is not far enough west to see the prairies, there are not any very
extensive ones in the vicinity of Galena. But on our journey home we had a
fair view of them. When in riding ten and perhaps twenty miles and not see
a stone, tree, house, or a drop of water, it is then we see and know a
western prairie. We came home by the lakes, was five days on one boat,
thence through the state of New York and Massachusetts as far as Providence
by Railroad we were about one week on the journey. On my journey to
Illinois with my brother I had an opportunity of seeing a much greater
portion of our country, we went from New York to Philidelphia by Railroad
stopped in that city two or three days, thence to Baltimore and from there
to Comberlend by the same conveyance, we then took the stage over the
Alleghany mountains, this we found to be a romantic side, we were one day
and night in crossing them, then after a short steamboat ride we came to
Pittsburg then went the whole length of the Ohio river, stoping at
Cincinnatti and Louisville we arrived at St. Louis, being nine days from
Pittsburg, a distance of one thousand five hundred miles up the Mississippi
to Galena, it being then four weeks since leaving home. When Father
proposed for me to address a few lines to thee, I feared I could write
nothing of interest, but as thee and Aunt have so recently traversed the
western country, I thought perhaps a scetch of my journey would interest
you, and if I have failed in doing it, think not it is for want of respect
and esteem toward you. My health has been delicate for a few months but I
feel very much encouraged, think I shall soon be in the enjoyment of
health. We hope to hear from thee again soon and if thee thinks this worth
thy notice, I should prize and answer from thee or any of thy family.
With much love and respect to all I bid thee farewell.
Thy neice Mary R. Chace
Hello All,
As will happen from time to time, I made an error in assembling
the "Genealogy" information from the Letter - Miller Chace, Fall River, 9
mo 22 1859.
The following is incorrect:
> Robert Cornell married twice and was living with his second wife as of
> September 1859.
This should have been Robert Chace, younger brother of Miller Chace.
Sorry for any confusion.
Cheers,
Jeffrey Chace

Hello All,
Here is a letter from Palmer Chace to his half-brother Elijah Cornell
(their mother was Sarah Miller). Palmer was born 20 September 1783, and
was an older brother to Miller Chace whose letters I have also been
posting. There is not as much genealogical information in this letter as
in those from Miller, so I will point out who some of the persons mentioned
are. Ezra is Ezra Cornell, Palmer's nephew and Elijah's son. Thomas is
Thomas Chace, my great great great Grandfather who was married to Elijah's
daughter and Ezra's sister, Lucretia Cornell. Robert is Robert Chace born
27 April 1790 and younger brother to Palmer, Miller, and half-brother to
Elijah. The child who came down with "Hooping Cough" would most certainly
be Lydia Ann Chace born 27 April 1844 to Palmer and his third wife Lydia
Pratt Lincoln. Who Father Gideon is, I do not know. He could be Gideon
Chace (William, William, Joseph, Stephan, Benjamin) who was born 13 March
1767, but I really do not know. You'll find the letter below.

Jeffrey Chace

Fall River 11 mo 29 1849 Dear Brother and Sister
I have sat down this evening to acknowledge the recept of thy very
acceptable letter this day received which was a satisfaction to me to hear
that thee and Eunice was well and I conclude that the rest was well as thee
said nothing about them and I may acknowledge that I feal for Ezra and
family for the loss they have met with but this loss may her gain for she
is out of the way of many temptation and trials that she might have had to
pass through if she had been permitted to live longer. We are all well
through the blessing of Providence also Brother Millers family are well.
Miller is tending mill for a living and I am carting meal to market for my
living which is small bisness. I have maid this sommer from16 to 18
dollars per month but in long day I git through in about half a day so have
the rest of the day to rest or due any thing else as I pleas. I have not
seen Thomas since I last wrote but I conclude that they are well or I
should have heard of it and the rest of thy acquantances about here are
generally well. Father Gideon has been sick this fall and his life was
dispeared off (dispared of) for some time but he has got out again quite
smart. Robert family is about as they was, his son that I wrote was sick
is about as he was then, he has been more unwell since but has recrated (?)
some but it is hardly likely that he will ever be well again nor be able to
due any more work and in reguard to my coming up there to make you a visit
I have not given it up if I live and have my helth but cannot set my time
at present and the great reason why I did not come last fall was that our
child came down with the Hooping Cough and had it very hard. She has not
got over it now but cough quite hard. She has had it about three month.
There is quite hard times here with many of out inhabettents for there is a
great maney that have nothing to due and our houses are visited almost
dayly with bagars for somthing to eat, mostly by furreners that that flock
to manafactrying villages for work but find nothing to due so they bag
their living as long as they can. Now it has got to be nine oclock which
is late bed time for me and I am to dull to write any more at this time but
I shall see Miller tomorrow and I will tell him to write thee soon. So I
will conclude with subscribing myself they well wishing Brother
Palmer Chace
PS my wife gives me in love to you all pleas to write offen for that is
next to seeing you. PC

Hello All,
Here is another of the letters of Miller Chace that I have transcribed.
This one is also written to his half-brother, Elijah Cornell. As with the
other letters, I have retained Miller's spelling, have included
a "Genealogy" at the end, and if there are words of which I am uncertain, a
(?) symbol follows them. In addition to Miller's letter there is a letter
as addendum written by his wife Mary Chace (maiden name also Chace). She
descends as follows: William, William, Joseph, Job, Jonathan, Cromwell.
