Hi,All,
Thanks or pointing out the "new" site. The Server belomgs to the same
person,Dennis Partridge, as the "old" surnmaweb site.
I was hoping to make a large modifcation to the site this week but it will
have to wait until I return rom Spain in 2 weeks time
For some months now Lonnie Chase and I have been working on the conversion
of the Chase Chronicles in their entirety
and I have just completed the job. We had to do the thing twice as some
pages were taking excessive time to load.
I have some more links to make and will upload shortly. The whole 71
issues, between 1910 and 1934 complete with graphics, family trees articles,
and insights to the times our more recent cousins lived in, poems and
jokes.
There will be some basic links and a complete index to some 1,200 items
but the Site search facility will cover the whole section. More in 2 weeks

Hello All,
Just wanted to let you know that I have moved my website (the old site is
still there but will no longer be updated). The new site can be found at
http://www.chace.demon.nl Furthermore, I have added some new information
concerning Elijah Cornell Chace (later changed to Chase). You can find the
new info about his life and his home in Kansas City at
http://www.chace.demon.nl/ECChaseHouseKCPubLib.html
Additionally, I have added 3 new letters from Alonzo Chace to his Uncle
Ezra I have recently found written. They can be viewed at
http://www.chace.demon.nl/LinkLetters.html The new letters are those
having been written from Brooklyn.
The first few times I viewed these letters, I had the size set at 50%. As
such there was a vital clue hidden from view. However, having viewed one
of the letters at 100%, I noticed some small writing I had missed
previously. It is interesting to note that at full size, the Officers of
the company on whose letterhead Alonzo wrote these letters can be quite
plainly seen. Under the "A" of "American Photo-Lithograph Co." you will
find:
* Ezra Cornell, President
* Horace Greeley, Treasurer
* Thomas N. Rooker, Secretary
* J.W. Osbourne, Superintendent
Ezra Cornell was founder of Western Union Telegraph and of Cornell
University, Horace Greeley was Editor of The New York Tribune and a very
influential political figure in New York (he is featured as one of the
characters in Martin Scorcese's film Gangs of New York). He also famously
said to Josiah Bushnell Grinnell "Go west, young man, and grow up with the
country." Josiah did just that and founded Grinnell College where my Great
Great Grandfather Thomas Chace Jr (brother of the Alonzo Chace of these
letters) studied. Thomas N. Rooker was the foreman of the New York
Tribune. I don't know much about J.W. Osborne, but some of his letters can
be found at the Ezra Cornell Papers site at Cornell University.
I just noticed this little set of names under the "A" this last weekend.
It intrigues me that Alonzo Chace worked at the American Photo-Lithograph
Company whose Treasurer was Horace Greeley with whom Alonzo most likely had
some contact, especially since Alonzo's uncle was the President. Horace
Greeley's statement of "Go west young man" must have had impact on Alonzo
and further most of my family.
Alonzo ended up in Spink County, South Dakota, for a time before moving on
to Beverly Hills, California where he died. Alonzo was buried in
Hollywood, California, of all places. And, his brother Thomas went to
study at Grinnell in Grinnell, Iowa, before settling in Shawnee, Kansas,
where he set up practice as a physician. Many of the other members of our
family also "went west" ending up in Iowa, Kansas, and California.
Hmmmmm. Very interesting indeed. And all from a very small, initially
almost hidden, clue. Sometimes it pays to look a second time more closely.
Cheers,
Jeffrey Chace

I've had some difficulites cponnecting to it, also, but persistance has paid
off. It is just Internet traffic overload.

Could someone send the link for the web site with the results of the DNA
study again, please?
I lost it.
I also had a question. How many people total do you think there are living
in the US and Canada...who are descended from Aquila Chase and Ann Wheeler?
Thanks,
Kathy Caslin caslin(a)winco.net
I, too, would like to thank those responsible for the Chase DNA project.
I had fallen out of contact for a while with the Chase list due to a few
work relocations, and associated email changes. Then my wife and I had
twins. I truly would have liked to help out a bit more, both with Keith
and the website, and with this project. Being a scientist, this was
right up my ally. Perhaps I can be of more assistance to the group, or
at least stay in contact better, as the twins age.
So far so good in Chicagoland, USA. Hopefully this one will stick, but
the pharmaceutical industry is certainly in flux...who knows where we'll
end up! Maybe it's career change time!?
Take care everyone,
Matt (Matthew in the DNA data)

WOW! I am really impressed with what we have all accomplished here!
Thanks to Charlie, Dick, Keith, financial contributors, test-takers (and
all those behind the scenes) who worked so hard to make this a reality.
Seeing the results in chart form, and then reading the analysis is very
exciting.

The Chase/Chace DNA website has been updated with a detailed analysis. Dick
did a great job on the analysis. You will be amazed when you read it. Keith has
been handling the website. These two gentlemen are fantastic!
I want to thank them for being part of the Chase/Chace DNA team!
I want to also thank the eight people who agreed to chip in and pay for the
DNA test for our English cousin. (In my case-cousin-in-law.) The test kit has
been ordered and we look forward to getting the results. Charlie Scott
Sandy, that Chase which is on the Library of Congress site, I thought I had
just taken a picture of him, well his grave stone.
This Charles (now that may be a common name but not for Chase) lived & died
at age 22 in Bethel VT , right time frame; the middle initial does not
match.
I will by the way be posting within the next few days "all" those buried at
Old Christ Church, Bethel , Vermont. Many are Chases or are related.
Had "old home Sunday" there yesterday.
I sat in Dudley Chase's pew, well one of them, as he paid subscriptions to
several.

Hello Deb,
I ran across the following letter to Abraham Lincoln from SDW Chace. From
the letter we can see that he lived in Helena, Arkansas, was a Whig, and
practised "Physic." Hope this helps.

>From S. W. D. Chace to Abraham Lincoln, March 4, 1849
Washington March 4 1849
Dear Sir,
You being one of our representatives in the national Congress subjects you
to much trouble no doubt for which you receive but slight benefit &
therefore, this will add but one to the many epistles of the character
suggested by the above remarks -- I wish then to say I have been & prepared
a location for myself in Arkansas at Helena to which place I shall remove
in a few days -- & I learn from our mutual friend Alfred Philips that he
wishes to go & asks you to interest yourself for his appt. to the receivers
office at Batesville & the object of this is chiefly to say that such an
appt would be much appreciated by his friends & especially by me. I think
that a few good & tried Whigs might at the present crisis revolutionize
that state for reasons apparent no doubt to you -- & it now occurs to me
that if the like appt. may be changed in Helena & you can confer it on your
humble servant, (any refferences can be given which are nessessary) &) he
would be much obliged. Anything of the kind you may do for me in any part
of our dominions will be acceptable-- I have never before been in a
position that would permit my looking for or receiving any office from any
quarter, but as I have now ceased to travel, & am located & practicing
Physic, which would not conflict with any service which I could render to
my country & make (of course) profitable to myself-- at any rate whether my
friend Philips succeeds or not (& let it be understood I wish not to be in
his way) or whether there is any appt for me, or not let us have in
Arkansas, some choice souls & as in duty bound, we will (not always for
office) forever pray
Yours Respc'ty
S W D Chace
They'll get the data to you any way they want. If attachments: Gedcoms
if you don't have the same genealogy program. Word processing programs,
well the .doc format is pretty standard and if you have problems with
that, I don't know of any word processing program that doesn't
recognize .rtf (Rich text format) or txt. (plain text).
Now if you do indeed have problems exchanging data back and forth to
the Apple/Mac format, then let me know the specifics and I'll see if I
can help you iron them out.

Thank you very much, Denise. This is where I originally found the death
record for my John Worden. From there, I found him in the 1860 and 1870
census.
His father-in-law, David Chase, also died in Orangeville, 10 June 1870.
I have had no luck in finding any probate records nor an obit for either my
John Worden nor his father-in-law, David Chase.
I also cannot find his widow, Harriet (Chase) Worden after that 1870 census.

Greetings: All 16 volunteer DNA test takers have now taken the test. We are
still waiting for the results on two of these. Dick is doing an update on the
analysis of the results and we will post this as well as a new chart on the
Chase/Chace site within the next week. The money collected to-date has been spent
as partial payments for all the test takers.
Exciting news:
Keith has found a gentleman, Andrew Chase, who lives in East Sussex, England
who is willing to take the DNA test. This person and his wife have done
considerable research of the Chase Family. Andrew's family has lived in East Sussex
for generations and his DNA will be useful as it may show if that branch is
related to the Chesham Chases as some believe. He also has had contact with
some people in Rogate where William's son, also William, was reputed to have been
born.
When Keith offered to look for a person in England he and I agreed that we
should offer to pay for the test if he found someone. I believe we should do the
25 marker test which will cost $173. This will help us if we get a match to
try to determine how close the common ancestor is. Keith and I are willing to
pay this fee but I would like to see several people share this cost so it won't
be too expensive for anyone. If you are interested in paying a portion of
this cost send me a e-mail with what you are willing to do. I will see what kind
of response we get and get back with you on the shared amount.
Finally: Family Tree DNA just released a video that can be seen via the
internet. Click on the site listed below and watch all four segments of the video.
It is educational and I believe you will be enthused about how DNA testing
goes hand in hand with our genealogical research. Charlie Scott
