Praying that someone out there will recognize the above name. Wallace Fairbanks Chase married my widowed g-grandmother in 1948, St. Louis, Mo. Wallace apparently passed away after two years of marriage. My g-grandmother returned to Maryland again a widow in the late 1950's, at the age of 79.
Our family knows little about Wallace. Where he was born, when he was born or if he may have had family of his own. If Wallace was the same age as my g-grandmother, he would have been born around 1871/1872.
Here are a few hints: Wallace married Mamie E. Smith on November 20, 1948. They were married at the Odd Fellows Temple on 3765 Lindell Blvd., St. Louis, Mo.
Mamie was a Christian Science, Mamie was born in Illinois, lived in Missouri, Washington, D.C. and Maryland before marrying Wallace. Have no idea how they met but possibly one of these states or even the church.
If anyone can help me it would be so greatly appreciated.

Chase-L Group: Today we ordered a DNA kit for our 13th test taker. We had
collected $650 and we have paid $50 towards the fee of each of these people.
I believe what we have done is unique in Family DNA testing and we should be
proud of this accomplishment.
The good news: Our 13th person traces his linage back to Samuel Chase of
Luton, Bedfordshire, United Kingdom. He believes his line might match up to
Aquila's but has not been able to prove it. This gentleman still lives in the
United Kingdom--Dorking, Surrey, UK.
The bad news: We are out of money and I know of at least two more potential
test takers--one kin of a member and the other being recruited in England. Of
course, we would also like to find a Thomas Chase descendant.
Our offer to help with the DNA testing fee will go a long way in encouraging
others to join the project. If you have not contributed yet and would like to
be part of this effort please make a check payable to: Family Tree DNA and
mail it to:

Names researching:- Chase, Harfield, Steel
Hi Everyone
I wondering if anyone has some spare time and could find some information for me.
My interest lies with Thomas Chase who married Ann Harfield persumablely in Kingston, Surrey, England.
The number of children they had is unknown but they did had at least one son namely Thomas Chase whose details are below.
Their son Thomas Chase born about June 1821 at Kingston, Surrey, England (stated on his death certificate - but on his son Richard's Australian Birth Certificate it states Broadway, Hampshire). It would be good to find his birth and correct place of birth.
He married firstly Sarah Elizabeth White (where or when unknown). Sarah (White) Chase died 12 Jul 1849 St James Church, Milton, Portsmouth, Hampshire, England.
They had two children:-
William Henry Chase baptised 26 Sept 1847 St James, Milton, Portsmouth, Hampshire, England and married Eliza Goffe (Gough) on 10 Jan 1869 at St James, Milton, Portsmouth, Hampshire, England. William and Eliza had fifteen children. William died 10 Feb 1925 at Hambledon, Hampshire, England, Eliza (Goffe-Gough) Chase died 1935 (exact date and place unknown)
Elizabeth Baptised 12 Nov 1848 at St James Church, Milton, Hampshire (no other details known)
Thomas married again on 5 July 1852 at St Marys, Portsea, Hampshire, England to Ann Steel born about 1827 Milford, Hampshire, England. Ann was the daughter of William and Mary Steel
Thomas and Ann (Steel) Chase and 11 of their children immigrated to Bundaberg, Queensland, Australia on 'The Great Queenslander' which left London 27 Jun 1874 and arrived in Maryborough, Quuensland. Australia on 9th October 1874.
They had the following children:-
Mary Ann Chase baptised 15 May 1853 St James, Milton, Portsmouth, Hampshire, England (no other details known - Mary did not come to Australia with her parents)
The following children came to Bundaberg, Queensland, Australia with their parents.
Mark Chase baptised 8 April 1855 St James, Milton, Portsmouth, Hampshire, England
George Chase baptised 22 June 1856 St James, Milton, Portsmouth, Hampshire, England
Thomas Chase baptised 25 June 1857 St James, Milton, Portsmouth, Hampshire, England
John Chase baptised 8 Aug 1859 St James, Milton, Portsmouth, Hampshire, England
Eliza Maria Chase baptised 1 Sep 1861St James, Milton, Portsmouth, Hampshire, England
Frederick Henry Chase baptised 28 Jun 1863 St James, Milton, Portsmouth, Hampshire, England
Ellen Jane Chase baptised 15 Oct 1865 St James, Milton, Portsmouth, Hampshire, England
Henry James Chase baptised 1 Jul 1866 St James, Milton, Portsmouth, Hampshire, England
Lucy Emily Chase baptised 7 Jun 1868 St James, Milton, Portsmouth, Hampshire, England
Jane Chase baptised 24 April 1870 St James, Milton, Portsmouth, Hampshire, England
James Chase baptised 24 Sep 1871 St James, Milton, Portsmouth, Hampshire, England
Richard Burnett Chase was born on 14 Oct 1874 in Bundaberg, Queensland, Australia just 5 days after arriving in Queensland.
I have made contact with the families of the children who came to Australia.
Thomas Chase died 5 May 1913 Bundaberg, Queensland, Australia and Ann (Steel) Chase died 7 Oct 1892 Bundaberg Queensland, Australia.
If anyone can help with any information it would be gratefully appreciated. (I have had a break from genealogy for the past 9 years due to sickness within the family, so if you have made contact with me before, please contact me again)
Many thanks!

To Chase-L group: We had hoped to have a partial DNA report posted on the
Chase website by now but because one sample had to be retested it has delayed
the process. We expect the results of the retest this week.
The main objective of this project was to compare the DNA samples of the
descendants of Aquila, Thomas & William to see if there was a common
ancestor. We are still in need of a Thomas descendant to validate the Thomas
line. If you are a male Chase and descend from Thomas Chase we need you to
step up and be tested.
Members who descend from Thomas, but don't qualify, we need you to find us a
Thomas Chase descendant--maybe a cousin or a brother. We still have enough in
donations to pay half of the testing fee for one proven Thomas Chase
descendant. That will leave a balance for the test taker of $51.
Please contact me if you are interested in this half price DNA fee.

Hi,Jim,
That is fine.
With regard to Chase Ancestry, as I believe that William came from Essex, here in the UK I contactewd the Essex Society for Family History,(that is their title), and consequently discovered that they have no British Chase/Chace members at all.
Browsing thru their on-line index of people referred to in their magazine I discovered 2 entries that mention "CHASE" none that mention "CHACE". I have requested copies of the articles and I have placed a quarter page advertisement for a CHASE volunteer to take the DNA test.
I do not want to go into details but the advertisement states that any fees for the DNA test will be paid for.
I cannot guarantee thet I will even get a response but am hopeful that I will.
If I do not then I am intent on "cold-calling" some likely candidates on the telephone. There are still quite a few CHASE people living in Essex. Before somone points out that as I am not a male CHASE the links to myself may not be proven, I am aware of that but believe that any knowledge that furthers the Group brings my own quest nearer fruition
Another interesting poit we should consider is in trying to see if , or hopefully, what connection there is with any CHACE people.
As I believe I am a descendant of William Chase I have not pursued the Chase of Buckinghamshire, (Chesham). connection but perhaps some members of this Group might consider getting together and trying to locate such CHASE ,via the Internet.
For those with the belief that another branch may have come from Cornwall, as per the high "Cornish" Connection, that is another possible line but I am of the opinion that they are or were descended from the Chesham Chases and could be made a lower priority but that is up to those who consider they are of that line.

Hi Keith,
I having been putting the Chases that descend from William (1) into my genealogy program and have just finished doing your line. I was able to get your data as well as others from the Chase Image Map that you developed. I thanked you before for all your hard work in this regard, but let me say thanks again. It is helping us find those Chases that are of the same line and coordinate our research. My program tells me that you are my 8C1R.
Those of us that descend from William have been searching for where he was born in England and who his ancestors were. Now that we have some of the Chases taking the DNA test I think it would be great if we could find some Chases in England to take it. Then, just maybe then, we will be able start to connect the missing links from our Williaim (and Aquila and Thomas) to those in England. Are you in contact with any of the Chases in England? If yes, do any of them, to your knowledge, subscribe to the CHASE-L? Is there a way that we could contact them and encourage them to take the test?
We will be leaving for Florida tomorrow and will return April 1, so when you respond I will not be here during that time period.
Jim
I final got in touch with Bruce Chase and he thought he would have to pay
200.00 dollars to send the test in. I got it across to him that it did not
cost him anything. So he will do it if he can have another test kit. I will
pay for it if there is a cost. Please let me know so I can inform him.
Thanks

Looking for info on Ira CHASE, born c1826 in New Hampshire. He married
(when?) Emily BACON and had Olive CHASE in 1849 in Northfield, VT,
Hellen, 1851 and Abbie, 1854.
Any help appreciated; willing to share. Thanks!

Am looking for parents and more info. for Ira CHASE; according to the
1880 census, he was b. 1826 in NH and his parents were born in VT. He
married Emily BACON before 1849.
Any help appreciated; willing to share.

I want to thank Judy Chase Needham for posting a message on the Genforum site
about the Chase DNA project. Prospects generated from this posting will pay
the entire DNA testing expense.
We have one other person that might be tested, paid in part with funds from
the Chase-L Group, plus Keith is trying to locate that right person in
England to be tested. After we pay for these two our funds will be depleted.
At the conclusion of our testing I will generate a financial report for the
group. Thanks to all who have been so generous and to those who agreed to be
tested.
We still could use a couple of Thomas Chase (brother of Aquila) descendants
to help us validate that line. If you are a male Chase and descend from that
line we need you! I am sure we can find a little more money to help defer the
cost.
In the near future we will be posting a partial results page on the DNA
testing. When all the results are in Dick will put together an analysis of
the project.
Special thanks: While I am thinking about it I want to thank an almost
forgotten group in this Y-chromosome project--the mothers, daughters, sisters
and wives in the Chase/Chace family. You have been very supportive and
generous in this project--without you we would not even be here! Charlie

Thanks, Lonnie for pointing out that article from the WSJ!
>From the Wall Street Journal, March 6, 2003, as written by Ken Wells:
<<<<Jim Wells, a longtime University of Kentucky mathematics professor, went
to bed one night pondering a maddening and fruitless decades-long search for
the origins of an ancestor. He woke up the next day to have his history
handed to him in an e-mail.
"It's astonishing," says the 70-year-old Mr. Wells of the recent revelations
regarding his fifth great-grandfather, John Wells, who turned out, as Mr.
Wells had suspected but could never prove, to be a Pennsylvania Quaker with
British roots. "It just didn't seem possible we would ever learn his
origins."................
The idea: "Orphans" such as Mr. Wells might make a genetic match with one of
these families and, by comparing what he knows of his genealogy with the new
data, fill in missing pieces. By doing that, Mr. Wells not only verified his
theories about John Wells but found out his roots actually go all the way
back to one Henry Wells, an English Quaker who immigrated to Pennsylvania
around 1684. (The Wells Family Project also helped this reporter find his
own branch of the family tree.)......
The Wells Family Project uses what is called a 26-marker Y-chromosome test.
DNA, extracted from blood samples or cells scraped from the inner wall of
the cheek, is run through a sequencer that generates numbers for each of the
markers. If all 26 of your markers match all 26 of another participant's
markers, chances are extremely high that you share a common ancestor within
a few generations. Matches of 23 to 25 markers prove relationships, but
farther up the family tree. Less than 23 markers and you aren't related at
all..... >>>>>
DNA testing for genealogy is indeed exciting technological advance. I am
saddened that I as a female cannot participate in this project, but I HAVE
had my DNA tested for genealogical purposes. Several of my first cousins
have long claimed of possible Native American ancestry in the family tree.
When the opportunity arose, I did a few scrapings from the inner wall of my
cheek, and sent them off for testing. Two months later, results came back
showing my DNA as 91% European and 9% Native American. Eureka! I had my
answer - now, I need the who, what, when and where.
Although not a member of the church of Latter Day Saints (Mormon), I have
also provided my DNA (this time through a blood sample) to their project
hoping to include over 100,000 donors worldwide - which will attempt to
prove genetic compositions of major world populations and that in doing so,
show that the family of man is all related.
So, DNA testing for our purposes is painless - and may offer many clues to
our origins. For those of you still wavering about doing this, I would urge
you to take the plunge, or encourage your brothers or your father to do so.
Even if you yourself know all there is to know about your family, you could
be the key to another's.

This is from another list and I have not read the article.
"If you wonder about the merits of DNA testing as a tool of genealogy, read
the article on page 1 of the March 6th Wall Street Journal. It is
fascinating."

My answer: The results will be posted when we have all the results and the
earliest known ancestor will be included. No one from England has volunteered
for the test. We would be delighted to hear from an English person with the
surname of Chase.

To all test takers: Please do not release information that you receive from
Family Tree DNA. We want to wait until we have complete information and have
it analyzed. You will see the names of people that match up with your data
but this is confidential. The results will be posted on the Chase website by
test number, without names of the test takers, but will include earliest
known ancestors. Some of these ancestors are not proven and wrong conclusions
might be drawn if you look at incomplete data.
