Hi All,
I have been researching Thomas CHASE (who also went by surname LINNELL),
born abt 1792, and his wife Elizabeth LEGGE, born on 11 January 1802.
They married on 29 January 1822 in Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia.
Thomas and Elizabeth had four sons Thomas, James Frederick, George
Henry, and John and four daughters Sophia (who married Daniel CORBIN),
Elizabeth (who died as a young child), Julia Ann (who married John
William SALTZMAN), and Susanna (who married William Charles HISCOCK);
they also raised their grandson James William Chase (son of Julia).
Thomas and Elizabeth lived in Chester area of Lunenburg Counry (Martin's
River and Western Shore) and then moved to Sherbrooke (now New Ross) in
Lunenburg County. Some of their children moved to Kings County. Thomas
does NOT appear to be a descendant of Stephen Chase, born on 2 May 1709,
who settled along with his sons Jethro and Joseph in Kings County, Nova
Scotia in 1763.
I'd appreciate hearing from anyone researching Thomas and Elizabeth. I'd
be glad to share any information I have.
Linda Chase

Members of the CHASE-L group:
Here is a brief status report of the Chase/Chace DNA project.
We have 11 males with the Chase/Chace surname who have agreed to do the
DNA
test. The makeup of the group, as far as the earliest know ancestor is:
Aquila line: 3
Thomas line: 1
William line: 3
other: 4
We have three people, one from each of the major lines, that are taking
the
25 marker test. The others are taking the 12 marker test.
We have ordered seven kits thus far and these have been mailed to the
test
takers. On each of these I have sent money to Family Tree DNA paying $50
towards each test.
I currently have $100 ready to apply on the kits for two more of the
test
takers.
These kits will be ordered as soon as I receive some information from
one of
the participants.
This will leave us with just two remaining.
Any one that wanted to be tested or wanted to contribute towards the
fund,
let me know as soon as possible. I will be leaving on vacation in a
couple of
weeks and I need to have all the kits ordered and paid for by then.
The sample DNA has started to trickle in. If you are taking the test,
try to
do so as soon as possible as the lab process takes several weeks and I
know
everyone is interested in seeing the results.
Keith has been working on the report webpage and Dick is eagerly
awaiting the
results to do the analysis. Both have served as sounding boards for me
to
keep me on the right track. I appreciate everyone working together on
this
project. So far it has gone pretty smooth. This has truly been a group
effort. Charlie Scott

Charlie Scott....
I mailed in my DNA package today to the Family Tree DNA. I included a check
for $51 with the invoice that stated that $101 was required for the
package...however per your instructions, I understand that other Chase/Chaces
have contributed to the test for which we should be thankful..but I was glad
to pay my $51 for this important adventure in genealogy.
I did not know what the test would be when I volunteered..but I figured after
32 years in the Marine Corps..I would most likely survive any ordeal....but I
have to admit, I did not think it would be quite so simple.
For the information of others who may want to know what this DNA test
involved. I will briefly describe it.
The instruction sheet said "Collecting buccal cells from inside the cheek
with a scraper applicator kit."
In the kit was a 5" small stick with a plastic scraper on one end and a
plunger on the other.
The object was to use the scrapper on the inside of my cheeks..on both
sides..for about 60 seconds.
Two small specimen tubes were provided which contained a soapy solution. The
scraper was placed in the tube and made free by pushing on the plunger. The
cap on the tube was then tightened. Eight hours later I did a similar test.
Everything was mailed in the provided padded envelope.
So much for the DNA ordeal.
Here's hoping for good results......I would still like to know how William 1
made his contribution to this effort? and did he pay in wampum? (made from
the purple parts of Quahogs shells,)

For David Plank and Nancy Welch -
Do you have access to the 7 Generations book? On page 95 there is a very
good piece about Deacon Amos Chase, including personal comments about him,
his family and his environs. It gives the name of his homeplace in Saco "at
the Elms, below the city proper, and two miles north of the ferry where he
originally settled."
If you don't have the book, some of us have scanners (not me) - Lonnie Chase
and Harriet Chase, for starters -- and/or if you make a request to the List I
am sure the pages for Amos would be scanned and sent to you by someone. Take
a look on GenWeb for Maine, York County, Saco. There's help there for you as
well.
I have Saco Chases, too. ENVY you your trip. Best regards, Sandy Chase

Hello All,
I am trying to find the descendants of Elizabeth HOLDER and William
CHASE. William is the son of William CHASE (1595-1662) and Mary TOWNLEY.
William was born in Chesam, Norfolk, England 15 Jun 1621. He died in
Yarmouth, Barnstable County, MA 27 Feb 1685. He married Elizabeth HOLDER
about 1644. Elizabeth was born in England about 1625 and died in
Yarmouth, Barnstable County, MA about 1662. I have 9 children for this
couple and 7 sons. They were William, Jacob, John, Abraham, Benjamin,
Samuel and Joseph.
I have a Holder F. CHASE who was born in Fulton County, NY in 1812. He
married Chally I. (Chase) who was born in Saratoga County, NY about
1823. They were married in Broadalbin, Fulton County, NY about 1842.
They had 5 children that I know about. The family left New York State
before 1870. The next time I find this family is in the 1880 Census of
Hope, Barry County, MI. Holder CHASE, born 1857 is living with his
mother Chally J. (CHASE).
Does anyone have any information on how to connect one of the children
of Elizabeth HOLDER and the Holder CHASE who was born in NY in 1812? Who
were Chally's parents?
Richard
Walter-There were several families that went into tht area. One family that
I know were devout Quakers were the family of Wing Chase. My family, Isaac
and Thankful Maker Chase were in the Beekman Patent very near there, but I
have never had any proof that they were Quaker. You might try reading about
the people there in a series of books on the Beekman Patent that are being
published one at a time. The last time I checked, I think there were 4 of
them out. Good luck. Jeanne
I am planning to visit Saco, Maine, this summer. Saco was the home of Deacon Amos Chase (born 1718 in Newburyport, MA) and his son Joseph. Amos moved to Saco around 1753 and lived there until his death in 1818. He married Sarah Cole. Does anyone know of the location of any family sites - family home, mill, grave, etc. - in Saco? Does anyone have any general information about the family?
Just discovered a William Chase, age 27 and Albert Chase, age 21,
living with my g-g-grandparents, Elihu Chambers & Lydia CHASE Chambers,
on the 1860 MI census for Alpine Township, Kent County.
Does anyone know anything about William or Albert?
More new info - according to the census Lydia was born in NY. I posted the mystery of Lydia earlier - will repost below:
A Civil War era newspaper clipping in the Bible of g-g-grandmother Lydia O. CHASE Chambers (wife of Elihu T. Chambers, Alpine Township) is my only clue to her parentage. On the clipping Lydia had written "My brother." The clipping 'had report' of the death of a Thomas C. Chase who served in the Michigan 26th Infantry Company B as reported by a cousin, Allen Durfee of Iosco. (The demise part proved false - he was mustered out alive). A response from an earlier posting gave me the information that the cousin of Thomas mentioned in the clipping, Allen Durfee, was the son of Pamelia CHASE Durfee, daughter of Abel Chase & Lydia Aldrich (in 7 Generations of Descendants of Aquila and Thomas Chase). I learned that the wife of this Thomas C. Chase was named "Louise" (collected his Civil War pension and appears with him in Michigan census) and found that they are both buried in Elsie Village Cemetery. This gave me his death date. Thomas C. Chase (of Co. B., 26th Michigan Infantry) !
has the EXACT death day, month and year as Thomas Chockley Chase, son of Peter Chase (brother of Pamelia & Bela) and Elizabeth Cramer Crainer, married in 1827. However, for Thomas Chockley Chase, son of Peter, to be Lydia's brother, he could only be a STEP-brother as Lydia was born in 1820 and Peter and Elizabeth (parents of Thomas) were married 7 years after Lydia's birth. Is anyone aware of an earlier marriage for Peter?
Found the following with a web search......might be the answer to your
question.
SueEd
NY
Chase County's original towns were Imperial, Hamilton, Wauneta,
Allendale, Eldredge and Manderson. Hamilton was later renamed Champion,
in honor of Col. Champion S. Chase, who delivered a Fourth of July speech
there in 1887. Allendale was moved about two miles and then named
Lamar.
Wauneta, the county's first post-office, was originally named
Juanita, after a popular song. Government authorities, however,
suggested the change in spelling to avoid confusion with another town. In
1877 Lyman Howley served as the first postmaster.
By 1886 the county was so thickly settled that the citizens felt
the need of organized government, and requested Gov. James W. Dawes to
proclaim this region a county. Charles W. Meeker, a young attorney of
Imperial, carried a petition signed by 200 persons to the state
capitol, and a proclamation organizing Chase County was issued April 12,
1886.

Charlie,
This is just a suggestion, but would it be possible for you to set up
an account with a website such as PAY PAL? This would enable people to make
credit card payments on line to help fund the DNA project and possibly
increase the amounts contributed. My situation, for example, prevents me
from just writing out a check, but I could contribute through Pay Pal.
Thanks for the suggestion and I think we have something that will work for
you and anyone else that would like to use a credit card to help the DNA
cause.
Here is all you have to do: Let me know how much you want to donate by credit
card then write:
Family Tree DNA
Attn: Max Blankfeld
1919 North Loop West, Suite 110
Houston, Texas 77008
In your letter, simply give Max your credit card number and card expiration
date. Give him authorization to charge your account the amount you want to
donate and tell him that the amount should be applied towards the Chase DNA
project. If I know when you will be sending the letter I can give you a kit #
for which your payment will be applied. We have done this already and it
works fine.
As an update, we are about half way to having enough to pay $50 towards each
test. Any amount will be appreciated and goes a long way in making this a
group project. Thanks again for you suggestion. Charlie Scott
Janae, Chase County in Kansas is named for Salmon P. Chase, as are other
buildings and sites during the time of his rise to prominence. It's possible
that Chase County, NE was also so named, but I don't know that for a fact.
Anybody else?
Sandy Chase
Clear DayJanae,
I too have run across Chase County, NE in my search but have not yet had
much time to do any research on it. Most of my Chase relatives live in
and/or north of Omaha - but I'm not sure if any are in Brown County. Now
that Christmas is past and my internet sales have slowed down, I hope to
have the time to do some more research. I will let you know if I find out
anything on Chase Co. and hope you will do the same.
Charlie,
This is just a suggestion, but would it be possible for you to set up
an account with a website such as PAY PAL? This would enable people to make
credit card payments on line to help fund the DNA project and possibly
increase the amounts contributed. My situation, for example, prevents me

To CHASE-L members: I have been trying to send a message and can't get
through to the list. If you wind up getting several copies please excuse me
for being persistent.
Several of you offered financial support for the DNA testing. The money is
slow coming in. We have started the testing phase but need more money to
lower the cost to the test takers.
Please make you check (any amount) payable to: Family Tree DNA and mail it
to:
Charlie Scott

For this project to be a success we need your support!
Thanks, Charlie Scott
Hello,
I'm looking for information on a Washington V. Chase and a David Chase. They
are brothers and born in NY. Washington was b: abt. 1827 and David b: abt.
1825. I'm not sure but I think their fathers name was Charles. Can anyone
help me?
Thank you,
Queet Jaco
Does anyone know anything about Chase County, Nebraska? I have some Chases in Nebraska, but they settled in Brown County, which borders South Dakota. Chase County is in the southwest section of the state, bordering Colorado. Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone knows the history of the county.
