Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb

HI ALL,
I am replying to this direct and also to the list to illustrate how easy it
is to not only generate gedcoms but to send them via email:-
Char,
Your gedcom worked fine all I need to know is if or where it links to the
on-site CHASE database
If anyone has difficulties doing this I am sure Char(lette) will help

I cut and pasted the pedigree chart below from the CHASE Genealogical
DATABASE......You will find the pedigree chart option at the bottom of each
page of each CHASE ancestor. Other options for viewing are also
available...decendancy charts, etc. You can also provide a link for others
to clarify info there in as well. <A
HREF="http://www.surnameweb.org/centers/genweb/scripts/igmped.cgi/n=Chase?I018
58">Kesiah CHASE</A>
I can also send you my CHASE/WILKINSON data in a report format under
separate cover if you like. .
....Can tell you that Kesiah's grandfather, Samuel CHASE (dod: 2/27/1781)
married twice according to my family records. 8 children are listed under
his family group section. CHASE relatives write a note at the bottom of
(Kesiah's Grandfather Samuel's) family group.
Note: I think Samuel married 2nd wife, Sarah Vose. Such a marriage is
recorded on Swanzy records and I know of no other Samuel. The family
records, however, say nothing of such a marriage.
So, Samuel may well have married Wdw. Mary Vose Nee: Brown 9/13/176 and then
married Sarah Vose December 31, 1730. Kesiah's father was Jacob CHASE, (dob:
June 23, 1736) and was apparently the son of Samuel and his second wife Sarah
Vose.
Jacob CHASE and Patience Brownell (dob 9/29/1741 - dod 11/101823) intentions
are cited as March 15, 1762. Looks like they had 9 kids.
My CHASE family chart also has a cover letter attached. It is dated Jan. 30,
'78 (1878) and is addressed to my Mrs. James Lepper (aka: my Great Aunt
Emily Kesiah Wilkinson Lepper.....Kesiah's granddaughter).
The letter is requesting dates of birth, death and marriage for Kesiah Chase
and Job Wilkinson, the names of their children ....whom they married and
when. Its signed "J.B. Chase"......
The chart begins with Samuel4 CHASE and ends with the 8generation.....of
Chase/WILKINSONs.
Marriage dates/intension dates, birth and some death dates are available for
these generations on the list as well.

Kesiah CHASE (dob 7/7/1777). She married one of my direct descendants -
Job Wilkinson.....about 1795. They had 12 kids. Job was an inventor and has
a few businesses with his brother Gardner....Woolen Mfr. businesses. They
were both inventors...had a couple of things patented.
Family information says they moved to White Creek NY.....so does Rev. Israel
Wilkinson's book about the family. It mentions Job and Kesiah by name.

ALL,
I think this is a great idea by Sasha and will have my full support.
However as far as I am aware there are no restrictions on
Surnameweb's server other than cost.(20 cents per Mbyte per
month) On the contrary they are one of the few who appear not
only to allow cgi scripts but will also supply AND tailor them to suit
your site.
For those who may not know cgi scripts are programmes which
allow interactive items such as guest books, etc but from a
genealogy point of view the script for gedcoms is far and away the
best gedcom to html converter I know of and although not difficult
to set-up can be daunting to someone new to this side of
computing.
This allows the simple transfer of the proposed gedcom and then
you telnet a simple command to the Surnameweb computer and it
generates the required files.
The current Chase database with 11,000+ names is just in excess
of 2Mb in size and I can upload a revised version in about 12
minutes. No need to upload any other file.
After a year I still had $25 of my original $50 left so the site costs
me $2 a month.
Having said all this. If the current Chase site became graphic
intensive i.e had a lot of images than it would increase in
magnitude very rapidlt and therefore I consider Sasha's offer to be
particularly attractive as the cost per MB is far below that of
Surnameweb. Indeed if a cgi.bin file was permitted it would be
worth while moving the current CHASE site.
Sasha could you give an upper limit to the size of file you would
consider reasonable?
Would you have a problem with "zipped-up" files?

Sasha, you and Keith have cooked up a neato plan. I like it. However, I
would repeat a thought or two I and Keith discussed back when he started his
huge work on his current site.
I suggest that a few experienced researchers form an electronic committee to
decide which of competing versions will be posted with regard to the eldest
generations. (I am not among those qualified to join such a committee.)
Alternatively, and, from my view, even better, we could post the source
citations for the facts of the eldest of our ancestors.
It is a shame to repeatedly see postings of the same tired old errors (as
mine were) by every newcomer (as I was) unaware of the errors they are
repeating and unaware that they were debunked by well-researched works
decades ago. We should not post data because nine of ten submitters think
the data are true. The majority may have all pulled the facts from the same
sourceless gedcom. Instead, we should post data because one of those ten
submitters has source material that shows his or her data are true.
The Chase site should be a site where newcomers find the most proven facts
about our earliest ancestors. Surname sites that post reliable information
are priceless. Those that post anything anyone submits are not usually a
bargain.
However, it does make sense to me to accept from anyone the data they have
on the three to five generations of their branch or line that precede them.
We get that data from our grandma's family Bible and letters from great
uncles who knew those people. But, if any of us are to get information from
seven, nine, twelve generations back, we do it by someone's research. That
research should be shown or reviewed by some experienced folk so users can
rely on it (as much as we can rely on any history).
I do not mean any criticism of the existing site. It does not promote any
error insofar as my limited knowledge can tell. But the risk is there and I
just suggest you adopt some scheme to deal with it.
You or a committee also need to be watchful to avoid publishing copyrighted
research documents, while publishing (I would hope) tons of original
documents. I would be happy to provide all that I have transcribed or
imaged.
These are just my rambling thoughts. I respect anyone that takes on this
awesome task and I am extremely grateful to those who have built sites for
many of my family lines around the world. My gratitude includes the energy
and wonderful work of Keith and Matt and all who have worked on the existing
site.
Good Chasing!

largely in real estate in Swansea, which is now the town of Somerset, Mass.
having been set off from the town of Swansea, Feb. 20, 1790. He conveyed the
major part of this land to his 5 sons who resided in Swansea, and the
remainder to other persons outside of the family.
To son Isaac Chase, in 1706, 36 acres at Labor-in-vain, also one half of lot
no. 13 in the last division and another lot in 1732.
To eldest son William Chase, in 1706, lots no. 18 & 19 at Labor-in-vain, and
a lot to William Chase Jr., in 1726 (* see below)
To son Joseph Chase, 72 acres in 1710-11 together with the saw mill and
housing on the same, excepting one half of the lot no. 6 which he sold to
John Alger, and reserving a life lease in the homestead farm so long as he
and his wife Hannah Chase, should live and "no longer", in 1719-20 he sold
him 60 acres in the New Division and other land in 1722-3 and in 1714 he
conveys 72 acres to Joseph Chase Jr. This Joseph Chase Jr., could not have
been the son of Joseph Chase, above mentioned, because he was not born until
1723.
To son Eber Chase, in 1712, 67 acres, which was one full half of his
homestead farm, in 1714, 8 acres of lot no. 6 in the third division, in
1716, parts of the fifth and sixth lots in the third division, and other
land in 1722-25 & 29.
To Hezekiah, in 1716, five 20 acre lots in the new division.
(*) this may have been and probably was the William Chase whom he calls his
eldest son, the Jr., having been affixed to his name twenty years later.

I know this isn't concerning Genealogy, but this to the GROUP of people who
are so SPECIAL.
Pat
Sometimes when I smile it means that I am doing fine,
that things are going well right then, that things are
going my way. Sometimes when I grin it means that I'm in
a special mood again, I'm in a happy mood, maybe because
a friend has come my way. And sometimes when I smile
- once in a while - it's because I've met someone, a very
special someone who can brighten up my day . . .
and if you haven't guessed it - hey you're that
special person that's come my way. And if I'm smiling
it's because I'm thinking of you ...

Luv you all,

Leslie,
Thank you so much for sharing this with me. I had no idea it existed. I
appreciate what everyone has done for me and if there is any way I can help
I will. I live in Wilmington, NC.
Yes I'm a REBEL, born and raised here. I haven't ran across anything in this
area that would be of any help to you CHASE'R, but if you are researching
anything from this area once in awhile I can get to the library, so I would
be glad to do what I can but please remember I don't go to often and I am
not very familiar with the library resources.
Happy Chase'ing,
