Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
I would like to submit my Chase Family Tree, but I have questions:
-My Chase data is part of a combined family history of my husband's and my
families, maintained in a Family Tree Maker Family File. My earliest Chase
ancestor known to me from my family history is Zephaniah, born March 14,
1747/48 in Edgartown, Martha's Vineyard, Dukes County, MA, whose first wife
was Abigail Skiffe. This Zephaniah appears in Banks, Vol.. III as No. 201.
Since Banks provides what appears to be a complete family line which
connects my Zephaniah with Isaac Chase, the first of the Chase name to
settle on Martha's Vineyard, I can easily prepare in FTM a Genealogy Report,
showing descendants from Isaac on in my family line, with living
individuals omitted. Is a Genealogy Report of this sort, prepared as a
GEDCOM type of file, fit in with your requirements? If there is any doubt,
should I just prepare it and send it, and let you decide?
-Banks says that Isaac descended from Richard through Aquila Chase through
Thomas Chase. My family's records say that our Chase ancestors came from
England, from the marriage of Henry Chase and Mary Townley. I don't have
further information on Henry, and the only Mary Townley that I find (through
FHL's familysearch.org Web site) is Mary Townley b.1605 in England, d. Oct 6
1659 in Yarmouth, Barnstable, MA, with possible marriage to a William Chase.
Can you shed any light on this? If my family records are correct, they seem
to conflict with Banks' Richard to Aquila to Thomas to Isaac track.
The descendants of Salmon P. Chase may be interested in knowing that a letter
written by him is being auctioned off by Butterfields & Butterfields and
Dunnings. The auction is May 27 and will be held simutaneously in L.A., S.F.
and Elgin, IL with previews prior to that date. More information at
www.Butterfields.com where you can check in out in their Books and
Manuscripts auction.

I'm searching for the family of a Leonard Chase who married Mary Jane
Sargent on 29 Oct 1829 in Amesbury, MA. The marriage record says he is of
Derry, NH however I have not found a record of him there. I recently found
a Leonard Chase born 27 July 1807 in Dennis, MA, the son of Samuel and Polly
Chase. I was wondering if any one has any information on this Dennis, MA
Chase family.

Dear Lonnie. Was so glad to receive your message today. A short time
ago, I had posted a query asking if anyone
could possibly give me any first names of Loyalist men at the time of my
family dates and Lisa sent back a message
with several names and Shadrach happens to be one included in the short
list. Wouldn't it be something if THIS is
the name of Samuel's father? After all the searching? Boy, in searching
for this man, I always seem to be a day
late and dollar short! The letter from Mrs. Gunning written in 1926 and
the woman lived only an hour from my home
here in Puyallup. Of course, the years are off a tad, myself not even
being born then. Oh, I wish, I wish, I wish. But
wishing won't help. Where did you get this issue of the CHASE
Chronicles? I find it very interesting that she wrote
of Samuel being born in Canada. I often wondered if that were possible
since his birth date and place have been
given only as "about". I felt I was pretty close when I found Clara Ann
in an 1880 CA census wherein she said her
mother was born in NH and father born in ME and Clara herself born in
N.B. Samuel's place of birth could have been
anywhere along the border, even MA. Clara's birth year and the birth
years of her siblings are all correct. I wonder
what she meant when she wrote "I think perhaps if I can get Samuel
CHASE's father's family placed to 1870, I will
know the rest"? Question. From whom do you descend? I dare not hope too
much that Samuel is at last close
to my grasp! Have hoped for so many years. But, still, I wish. Thank
you again so much. Bobbie

Hello Robert. Got into my email last night after 2 days of not checking
it and noticed your posting. I have a quick
question for you. You stated that "James and John were the sons of the
elusive Samuel CHASE and Elizabeth
(MOORE) CHASE." All my records show that Samuel and Elizabeth had no
sons, James and John. Their children
were, William, Temperance, Alexis, Eliza and Clara- the last being my
ancestor. However, William, the oldest child
had both a James and a John by his wife, Sarah McPHERSON, which would
have made James and John the
grandchildren of Samuel & Elizabeth. Perhaps this is what you meant in
the lineage you gave? If you DO have a
James and John as Samuel & Elizabeth's children, could you please give
their birth dates because these are two
children that I don't have shown to be brothers to the 5 children listed
above as being the offspring of Samuel
and Elizabeth. Thank you. Bobbie
Ok, I hear you, THIS time I won't forget to include the interesting
reading!

Thank you all for the information you sent on my Chase lines. I guess I
should have said that William was supposed to have been one of the
children of Aquilla Chase of Chesham. The information that I have was
collected by my mother (since deceased) and my father (ditto). That is the
information up to William, himself. The further back information was
speculation and not proven. I will have to look further and elsewhere, I
guess. I wish my parents were here to ask about where they got their
information. I still have 3 Chase lines, however and when I said the
information on the Chase Resource Center was incomplete, I meant that when
I looked there, the year dates were given in only 3 digits! Does anyone
have the complete dates?

Hi folks - I've just found a set of IGI entries which just identify the birth
of Barbary Chase on 25/2/1778, variously in Middleborough, Plymouth, Mass
and/or Freetown, Bristol Mass, but with no other details.
Now, one of my ancestors here in the UK was a Barbary Chase, married in 1808
in Bosham, Sussex (where Canute spoke to the sea), but her birth has been
totally elusive so far. Whilst it is improbable that these are the same
lady, any help in clarifying the Massachusetts connection would be greatly
appreciated.
