I have discovered an ONTARIO 1871 census database that can be searched....I am
unable to paste the HTML to this message, and it would be gibberish anyway
...but this is a summary of CHASE query..
Each CHASE name can then be clicked to find more information on the indexed
person !!
Some as you can see are Dutch, some are French (poss. Chasse) but if you are
missing some dead relatives, they might have gone to Ontario instead of New
Brunswick and Nova Scotia in 1783......

Hello..
I believe DOnald Reigh Chase might be living still, and I am trying to find
out where he might be..
He Married Gloria Ann WHITE....Her father was Cedric Paul White, mother Doris
Wilberta Jones..
Donald and Gloria had two children..
Michael Reigh CHASE and Terri Ann CHASE..
both are still living.
Does anyone know where they are ??
I believe they might come from the Moncton NB area..but they could be
anywhere...
They are part of the CHAPMAN genealogy, and the Yorkshire settlers.

Joan and other interested Chase researchers,
I gave erroneous information earlier about Isaac CHASE and his wife Thankful
MAKER has having a dau Marcy b. 11 Feb 1733/4 in Yarmouth, MA. In reality, it was
John CHASE and Thankful BERRY that should have been listed. Am sorry to have
listed this wrong.
While double-checking for the info above, I did find the following in "Early
Vital Records of Barnstable Co., MA:
"Isaac CHASE Jr. of Yarmouth and Thankfull maker of harwich were married in
Harwich on January the 12th day 1737 by Reverand mr Nathaniel Stone"
Thankfull MAKER born 25 May 1716 Harwich, Barnstable Co., MA and is a daughter of
John and Mary MAKER.
Thanks Joan for bring this to my attention and for allowing me to double-check
the source and set the record straight. Melinda Cornwell

Hello!
I have what appears to be the original marriage certificate of my
great-great grandparents, Ann Eliza CHASE and John Sheldon BROWN. It reads:
This is to Certify That John S. Brown of Pawtuxet in the State of Rhode
Island and Ann E. Chase of Portsmouth in the State of Rhode Island were By
me Joined together in HOLY MATRIMONY on the twenty fourth day of December
in the Year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Fifty Five in the
Presence of
G. Morton Albert G. Morton
M. W. Morton Minister of the Gospel
My question - has anyone run across Albert Morton, and do you know what
church he was minister of on December 24, 1855? Since the bride was from
Portsmouth, my guess would be somewhere in that town, but it's only a guess.
As a side comment, if anyone has any connections to either Ann Eliza CHASE
(daughter of Benjamin Franklin CHASE and Priscilla ANTHONY), or John
Sheldon Brown (son of Sheldon BROWN and Penelope HARRINGTON), I'd love to
hear from you.
Thanks.
John Brown

Hi Julie:
Thanks for the information. Unfortunately, these people are not in my Morgan
line that originates in West Virginia. The group of Morgans I am interested in
moved from Virginia to Garden Grove, Iowa in 1849-50. The Chase line I am
looking for also moved into Garden Grove, Iowa sometime between 1850 and 1860
and took up residence next to the Morgans. I believe this was Lyman (Bradley)
Chase. A Daughter, Phoebe Jane Chase, married Uriah Mortimer Morgan. It is her
line I am trying to trace back.
Regards,
Dennis

Part Three.
"Genealogical & Family History of Southern New York." Cuyler Reynolds. 1913.
pages 735-36. ... William CHASE is believed to be the cousin of Thomas and
Aquilla CHASE. ... Many descendants of the Chase immigrants settled in
Ulster County, New York, where the census of 1790 reports no less than forty-
six families. The family at even that early date was widely scattered in New
York and owing to lack of public records they have not been traced.
(1) John CHASE, of the New York state branch, descendant of the New England
family described above, was a farmer at Furnace Woods, Westchester County, NY.
He married Elizabeth HAIGHT, of a family prominent from the early days in
lower Connecticut and New York states and colonies. John CHASE lived to the
great age of eighty-six years, and was buried at Furnace Woods. He was a
member of the Methodist Episcopal church of that village. Children, all born
at Furnace Woods: Oliver, John D., Benjamin, Daniel, Herman B., Amos B.,
Sarah, Eliza Ann, Roseta. The sole survivor of this family of nine is Amos B.
Chase, who resides in New York City.
HERE IS WHERE I THINK THE CONFUSION BEGINS ON THE OBADIAH AND REUBEN CHASES.
Copied from the papers of Carleton Scofield, Historian's Office of Peekskill,
New York on Oct. 27, 1970 by Thelma Kilmer.
The Chase family of the Town of Cortlandt and Putnam County, New York are
descended from Reuben Chase who lived and died at Cape Cod, Mass.
Among the children of Reuben Chase (1) was Isaac (2) who settled at what is
now Carmel, Putnam County, NY.
He and all his sons were soldiers in the War of the Revolution. He was a
member of the Gilead Presbyterian Church, Carmel, NY.

I think Scofield just lumped a bunch of Chase names together
that happened to be in the same area. The Isaac CHASE he has listed as Isaac
CASE (2) is actually Isaac CHASE (5) and Reuben was not his father. Reuben
CHASE was his son. See previous posting. My advice is to be VERY CAREFUL is
you use Scofield's records. He collected a great deal of material but it
should be used with caution.
I hope these postings aren't out-of-line with what the Chase mailing list is
about. I'm hoping this will help someone else.

Hello,
I am looking for any information on David Chase, born October 25, 1769
in Petersham, MA. He married Lucy Gay, born September 14, 1771 also in
Petersham, MA. Thier children were: Parney, LeFa, Alvin, Sally, David,
Jr., and Cyrena. As far as I can tell from family records (what was
kept) David is as far back as our records go.
Also, Henry Chase, born about 1767 in Townsend, VT. He married Irene
Wheelock, born (?) also in Townsend, VT. Their children were: Wheelock,
Converse, Melinda, Hiram, Luther, and Abner. From here I can pick up my
line pretty well.
Any help is much appreciated!

Hi Joan:
Reference: Microfilm number 1000239, Item 5, pages 89-90
This microfilm may be found in the Family History Center of your local
LDS church. If they do not have the microfilm in their inventory, it
can be ordered from the main library in Salt Lake. You may wish to also
check the IGI and Ancestral computer files in the same local library for
additional information. The librarians there can help you find what you
need. Let me know if you are not near an LDS library. I have access
to one here and will help you where I can.
This microfilm contains a "Commemorative Biographical Record" of
Dutchess County, New York. Page 89 contains information on George Chase
and also gives information regarding the Chase line.
Alvin Chase was born 4 Oct 1778 in Yarmouth, Barnstable, Mass. He
married Ruth Cole on 12 Sep 1801. They had 12 children: Cyrus, Naomi,
Darius (b: 1 Nov 1807), Susan, Lyman ( I believe this is my relative; b:
30 Aug 1811), Sarah, Henry, Hiram, Cynthia, Mary, Frank and John.
Alvin had a second mariage to Martha Dingee and they had three children:
Alvin, Hannah and Elmer.
Sorry, I do not have a death date for Susannah Knapp Chase.
I am currently trying to establish that Lyman Chase, son of Alvin Chase
and Ruth Cole, is my Chase ancestor. The 1860 census information I have
shows a Lyman (Bradley) Chase living in Garden Grove, Iowa next to Uriah
Mortimer Morgan and Josiah Morgan, Uriah Mortimer Morgan's father. Uriah
Mortimer Morgan was married to Phoebe Jane Chase whom I believe was the
daughter of Lyman (Bradley) Chase. I need to find a record that shows
Phoebe Jane Chase as a daughter of Lyman (Bradley) Chase so I can tie
all of this together.
I know nothing about a Mayflower line and would be interested in what
you could share with me.
Dennis
Check the Ancestral File at any Family History Center located at The
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Reuben Chase (AFN:342S-DX)
is the son of Isaac Chase and Thankful Maker. There is also a pedigree
chart going back 5 more generations to William Chase born in 1607.
I believe my ancestor, Lyman Chase was born to Alvin Chase who is the
son of Obadiah Chase, brother to Reuben Chase. In 1972 a genealogist,
working on my family line (Morgan) indicated the Chase line to which I
belonged was a direct line to the Samuel Chase who signed the
Declaration of Independence. I have yet to be able to prove this.
I hope this helps you.

Hi,
Will the woman who mentioned a Reuben CHASE (in a posting of last week?)
please e-mail me. Reuben was a brother of my ancestor, Obadiah CHASE, who
married Susannah KNAPP.
Obadiah was born 1743 and died 4 July 1799. He and Susannah had eleven
children; will be glad to share/compare. Have some information on Reuben's
children but know nothing about his wife.
Anyone else working on this line?

You might try the DAR for a copy (or copies) or application papers. The DAR
Patriot Index, Volume 1 lists Samuel CHASE b. 1754 d. 1838; married first
Elizabeth LEET; married second Damaris SABIN. Samuel served as a Sgt. in the
Rev. War from NH. Hope this will help.

Can anyone provide information on the ancestors of Elizabeth LEET b.
1750 in Cornish, NH and d. 24 Mar 1781 in Claremont, NH? She was married
10 Nov 1772 to Samuel CHASE, 3rd b. 3 May 1752/54 in Sutton (Grafton),
MA and d. Oct 1838. Their daughter was Mary Polly CHASE b. 17 Aug 1773
in Cornish, NH and d. 28 Jun 1797 in Cornish.
The LDS Ancestral Files lists an Asa LEETE b. 21 Jul 1726 in Guilford,
New Haven CT d. abt 1767 in Claremont, NH and m. 19 Oct 1748 in Guilford
to Hannah RAYNOR b. probably 10 Oct 1726 and d. 6 Apr 1792. According to
these files, they had a daughter Elizabeth b. abt 1759 in Claremont. The
name, dates, and locations all seem to match. Does anyone know if this
is the wife of Samuel CHASE?
To further confuse the matter, the LDS files also mention a Jordan LEETE
b. Oct 1720 in Guilford, New Haven CT d. 8 Apr 1773 and m. 13 Nov 1746
in in Guilford to Rebecca WATRONS b. abt 1722 in Guilford d. 11 Oct 1788
in Guilford. They also had a daughter Elizabeth b. 3 Oct 1750 in
Guilford but she is listed as married to a John SMITH.
It would appear that Asa and Jordan LEETE were brothers and both had
daughters named Elizabeth.
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
