Can anyone help this Chase cousin??
My maiden name is Monika Chase. My Father, Charles Edward only knows his dad's
first name; Verless. He was most likely born in Idaho, maybe Utah.
Can you help?
Thanks,

ALL,
I have updated the CHASE WWW site today.
--The database has had additions,(Will those who sucessfully sent gedcoms
in the past couple of months please check to see if their data is included.
--List of CHASE WWW sites updated,(Debbie Axtman please check if OK and
thanks for the hard work)
--Some info has been added to the ARCHIVES page. There is now a U.S.
section giving some National and regional archives. This is work I did
some weeks ago but should stillbe up to date.
I notice that some of you have been picking up on likely sites for CHASE info.
I have saved these messages and when things ease up for me I will review
and include but I repeat I cannot possible reveiw all the many State and
County genalogy archive sites,

This is some information that I received from Bucks, England. Please
remember, Hundridge is just a place where some Chases lived. They may or
may not be ancestors.
Lonnie Chase
chase1858(a)bwn.net
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
From Chesham town, five fingers of roads spread out into the hills to
the north-west and west. Hundridge is situated on the `little finger'
which stops short of the hamlet of South Heath. There were two large
farmhouses, called Hundridge and Little Hundridge of which the former
was later called Hundridge Manor. It was never really a manor but an
outlying `home farm' belonging to one of the main manors in Chesham.
The Chase family appear to have lived in the larger one way back. I
have a feeling the building is now used as offices or conference centre
by one of the large firms. If I have the right one, they are very
difficult about letting anyone inside their gates and know/want to know
nothing of any history.
The present house was mostly built c1696, with more modern additions
and refacings of the walls, so the basic look is Georgian. There is an
older chapel, ruinous in 1504, repaired and used as a barn and a
brewhouse, not in very good condition. We have old illustrations of both
house and barn, which might possibly reproduce.
Lon nie,
Hundridge--is Hundridge Manor Farms where all of the Aquila and Thomas Chase
lines connect to. This is located near the town of Chesham in Buckinghamshire
County in England. It is a beautiful Manor House and grounds. The Chases of
these two lines never owned it to my knowledge but they rented it. If you
connect with that line it's worth a visit to see it if you ever get a chance.
The Chersham library has newspaper pictures of it when it was up for sale for
over 1million pounds in about 1986 or 7 as I recall.
Hi there Keith and all of the Chase Clan,
First of all I would like to make reference to the problems with the Ged Coms.
I know we are all tired of the subject. As they say in the South---LISTEN UP
YA' ALL---In my opinion the problems with the Ged Com are not with Keiths
computer etc.---at least they aren't in my case. I was told by AOL
Technicians that I need to install Win Zip and then send the information. I
intend to do just that. PLease be patient. I've had a lot on my plate lately
and can't seem to find time to spend more than a very few minutes on the
computer, but that will change soon.
Your report of spending the time on Veteran's Day was extremely interesting,
Keith. The story about your father's experiences add to good historical
reading. I have an idea of where you were over that day (Nov.11). We found
the area you speak of our favorite in France and the people who live nearby
receptive to Americans. At least they were when we were there a few years
ago. We liked the food there too.
Yes, we observe Veteran's Day here very seriously. In fact, the
Renaissance Brass Group which I am a member of gave a concert on that day
for a good sized audience of mostly retired veterans. There was even one
Veteran of WWI there to honor. In fact, the lady who organized the function
was a Sylvia Chase. We attended another function in honor of Armistice Day
that same evening which included dinner and dancing to Big Band music. It was
my husband's first big day out after his surgery in September so we were
especially happy.
We are indeed grateful to Keith for his long hours of work gathering together
the data base. One of these days all of the info. will be merged and perhaps
we will find a book is ready to print giving all of the links from Chase to
Chase all over the world.
The computer is wonderful and I am glad some of you Chases understand how it
works. You all have been very patient with those of us who don't understand
its inner workings.
All, Not about genealogy but a serious question
Yesterday, as is our custom 2 friends and I went to the Somme and
hindenburg Line battlefields in France.
My father,(An "Aussie" as I am), was fighting in France from 12 July 1916 to
30 September 1918 when he was wounded for the 2nd time.
In this last battle ,for the Canal Tunnel at Le Catelet, the American 30th
Division and others had been fighting non-stop for 4 days and the 53rd
Australian Battalion who 18 months before had special training in
fighting in such situations was ordered up in support at 3.30am on the
fourth day. The plan was that they would relieve the Americans who had
suffered severely trying to weed out the German troops from the Canal Tunnel
which because of its depth was impervious to shell fire.
As the fresh Australians made their way thru the severely diminished lines
but as there were few officers about ,they told them they were relieved.
The Americans refused to go and went on with the Aussies and finally cleared
the tunnel.
In fact it was an American who went back for a stretcher bearer when my Dad
was wounded. They were pinned down by sniper fire and my father was bleeding
heavily. He was picked up about 40 minutes later and when he inquired was
told his Yankee "Cobber" was last seen heading back towards the Tunnel.
On the spot near where this action was fought, (at the North end of the
Tunnel), there stands a simple yet
highly impressive memorial to the Americans who lost their lives there. The
inscription reads to the effect that the memorial was to the American forces
who fought there with the British. It is beautifully kept,(as they all are),
and overlooks the fields the Americans had to cross and also Mont St.Quentin
from whence the Germans poured an unremitting cross fire.
No List of the "lost" soldiers or casualties. just a list of the Actions
and a very fitting design.
I took pictures and when I get them developed if any one want on I will send.
HOWEVER I realised there was something strange about this memorial and it
was my friend who spotted it.
There was not a single wreath, cross or poppy there. At this time of year
these memorials would normally have quite a few such. My friend had a simple
6" cross with a poppy on it which he placed there
It then occured to me that maybe 11th November at 11.00am is not remembered
in the USA.
Is this so?
If you ever go to France a trip to these batlefields should be a must. Many
still have the trenches and bunkers there and only 2 weeks ago a captured
British Tank was unearthed which the germans had captured and buried to use
as an underground bunker.
Hi,All,
The problems of sending gedcoms to me continues.
It would appear that Aol users are convinced My end is at fault. It is, I
understand, not the best test, but I have sent the Chase gedcom to myself
without problem so at the very least I can send a 2mb+ gedcom via netcom to
myself and receive as complete a file just as the one I sent.
It is obviously pointless for me to continue with this discussion. The fact
that I keep telling all and sundry that I have received over 25 gedcoms and
some recently has not convinced our aol users that the fault lies at my end.
There is no more to be said.
I will not attempt to look at any file coming from an aol user.
Dann Craig is trying to sort this out and has volunteered to accept gedcoms
and pass to me,if he can. Two recent atttempts by an aol user to send to
Craig have failed.
PLEASE NO MORE CORRESPONDENCE , TO ME, ON THIS ONE but if you can sort it
out ampngst yourselves I would be delighted, HOWEVER you do it!
I genuinely am VERY Busy and a further day behind due to my yearly
pilgrimage to the Somme in France,
Keith and ALL:
I would not mind receiving and re-transmitting Gedcoms to Keith. I was one
of the first, if not the first, to submit a gedcom and I believe it was
over 9,000 individuals. Keith received it with no problem.
I have been watching the email over this issue with amusement as I have had
problems receiving some attachments myself. Most of the problems were to do
with improper MIME encoding setups on the browser of the person sending the
file. IE4 and IE5 address this issue well.
For those who have had problems sending Keith a file, send to me and I'll
re-transmit.
Thanks
Dann
May I make a suggestion for sending the gedcoms to Keith...why not try doing
it through ICQ? It's faster than email and probably would bypass anything
AOL might mess up. You can download the ICQ program from the following
site. Make sure you get the newest version. 98a.
http://www.download.com/PC/Result/TitleDetail/0,4,0-19877-g,1000.html?bt.mir
ab.l2.g19877.cat37
Do you have ICQ, Keith? If you don't, it will really speed up your
receiving rate. You just both have to be online at the same time. And then
it also won't jam up your email if you ever run into that problem. It's my
preferred way to receive attachments.
Take care and God bless,
Junelle L. McClintic
May you feel the blessings of God's love today and always!
RAC,
Now this sounds like a fairly simple solution! Perhaps this is
something that people can try who are having trouble transmitting
a GEDCOM to Keith. I should have thought of this myself and I
feel stupid for not suggesting it. WinZip is a good program, but
I'm sure that PKZip would also work here.
Keith,
I realize that people have been able to send you GEDCOM files
successfully in the past, but has it happened recently? The only
reason I thought your service provider might be the problem is that
I can send GEDCOM files to every single e-mail user I know, except
for you. So that's my thinking... I myself have an e-mail size limit
at work of about 3 Megs per attachment.
As for putting data on a web page like I ended up doing, when I said
that it's not easy -- I meant for "most people." For me, it was really
easy since I do that for a living.
I'm sure in spite of these problems, many people would want to join me
in thanking you for doing a great job of assembling all this data in a
way that we can all benefit! I'm sure that Ginger and the others who
are having problems will get their data to you eventually somehow.
ALL
I am sorry to contradict Scott but it is NOT my provider that is at fault.
I have had a gedcom with over 5,000 names- NO PROBLEM!
If you paused to think about it, Scott, you would realise that the CHASE
database was not built by people sending me floppy discs
I have received over 25 gedcoms, by mail, from CHASE Group members without a
problem. With others there has normally been an answer.
You say that you have sent many files as attachments but only your last
effort came through as such and then it was truncated.
I repeat. How do you think I got 11,000 names in the Chase database if MY
ISP is at fault?
In the past most Aol files have come thru to me as "split" files. I have
already spoken to Netcom re this problem and they assure me that their
system will handle any files. I also have sent all kinds of files and I can
send them to you if you wish. I received one,a copy of all the HUME family
on the Lancashire IGI, which was 11Mb in size.
Some weeks ago I informed the Group that I would not be able to continue
managing the CHASE site
I have already told the Group that I would make one last update and I have
received some gedcoms since then
and added them to the database ready for uploading but in view of all the
problems and my severe lack of time.
and in view of your assertations
Just one last offer. Will ANY of you that have successfully sent gedcoms to
me ask those with a problem to send to you and if you receive them OK then
send to me as before.
This offer ends on the 20th November for I really am snowed under.
I regret I must call it a day at that and consequently after this next
update I will not be making any more.
While I cannot say for sure what the cause of the problem transmitting files
to Keith is, I do know that I have used AOL for several years to send big and
small text and binary files as e-mail attachments to all sort of providers
without any problem--except to Keith. I finally was successful previously in
sending GEDCOMs to Keith by compressing the file (*.zip) [making it a self-
extracting file (*.exe) is even better] and transmitting it as an attachment
to the e-mail message. People having a problem might try that.
