I've been working on this family for years, but haven't gotten far. I harbor
a small hope that someone out there will recognize them because I do need
help desperately.
CHARTERJOHN CHARTER married MARY CRON, one of JEFFERY CRON'S daughters, b.
1772 in Kirkpatrick-Fleming Parish in Dumfriesshire. (John Charter was the
son of THOMAS CHARTER and MARY CRON, to keep things really interesting
(translate puzzling). They baptized 1 son, THOMASafter which he promptly
disappeared. MARY should have had a JEFFERY and a JANE, JEAN or JANET also.
I cant find any of them except one daughterMARY (of course) who married
THOMAS THOMSON (1851 census). Does anyone know this family? Did all but Mary
and Thomas Thomson go south into Cumberland? If so, where? Can anyone help?
CHARTER/CHARTERIS & CRON
MARY CRON, baptized in Kirkpatrick Fleming Parish in 1772, daughter of
JEFFERY CRON
married JOHN CHARTERS (born 1764 in that same parish)
Their known children:
(1) THOMAS CHARTERS, baptized in 1807 (never to appear againwell to me,
anyway)
(2) MARY CHARTERS, born about 1810 (1851 census). She was married to THOMAS
THOMSON (born about 1801) around 1835.
They had 6 known children in K-F parish:
JANET Thomson (b. 1837),
ADAM Thomson (1840-1848),
MARY Thomson (b. about 1843),
JOHN Thomson (b. about 1844-1864)
ROBERT Thomson (b. about 1848) found in Edinborough (1881), now a shoemaker
with a wife, CATHERINE and 3 children: Thomas, Margaret Coll and William G.
Thomson.
ADAM Thomson (b. in 1850)
Thomas Thomson (1764) died 1864. He is in the Kirkpatrick Fleming Parish
Churchyard with wife Mary, who died in 1872, and Janet, John and the first
Adam.
This family didnt baptize their children, except Thomas-- so theyve been a
HUGE challenge to follow. If you know anything about the family, Id be
ecstatic, at least.
