Hello,
I agree with you that Fr.OUI Charron was a poor man to have gone thru that. I never saw movies about exorcisms but being Catholic I was told about them as a child. My recollection is that they can be very hard on a priest as you have just confirmed.
I hope that the exorcism led to the ghosts' leaving and giving the family peace. Interesting, were they ghosts? poltergeist? I thought devils were exorcised. Well that is getting off topic.
There are many interesting stories in families but yours is one of the most interesting I have heard.
I hope that your grandfather did not have fears his entire life from what occurred in his home when he was a child.
So odd that an article in the Ashland paper is now gone. But then you do think you can get it from the archives. That must mean that you accessed the article thru a secondary source.
I appreciate your sharing your information with me. I will follow up by reading "Weird Wisconsin" on Google books.
Mary

My family had some experience with Father Charron about 100 years ago, when my grandfather was a little boy in Washburn. He was a member of the Bourgo family and they were having manifestations in their home. It was actually pretty serious, and has been confirmed by their neighbors and also a researcher. You can read the story in Weird Wisconsin on Google books. They have it under a silly title called "The exorcising priest of lake superior". Basically a whole lot of poltergeist activity was happening in the house, pretty serious stuff. They called in Father Charron and he performed an exorcism. The story of it is pretty fascinating. It is said that he was not the same after that and was judged insane for some time. There was an article in the Ashland Daily Press in February 1919 that explains that. I have seen it but oddly it seems to have been removed over the years,. I have to contact the archives for a copy. That poor man. Read the story it is very interestin!
