Joseph's brother Edward Anthony is my gr grandfather.
The family donated the land on Hwy 48 that St. Anthony's church and Grave yard is on.
Family history says that Antoine's wife Margaret was native (from Quebec).
I have a family tree and Joseph's side has been missing until now.
Please contact me at history(a)edsweb.ca if you would be willing to help me fill in the missing relitives.

Thank you so very much for your information. Yes, this is who I am looking for. Joseph's daughter, Josephine (who married James Edward Morton) is my gr gr grandmother. Many Carpenters/Charpentier are buried in Sutton, and I know that this is where they lived. Would you happen to know if there is any connection with Native Americans within the Charpentier family?
If you ever want photos of gravestones from that area, let me know and I'd be happy to get them for you.
Once again, thank you for clearing this up for me.
E. Bryce

The Charpentiers of lake simcoe all came from three brothers who came from Quebec. Antoine, Adolphus, and Jean Baptise.
Antoine had a son Joseph, born 1828/29 in Virginia, Ontario.

Thanks Judy. You're right about Charpentier/Carpenter. There are also other spellings which makes finding someone more difficult. The correct French spelling is Carpentier. Also, I've found many "Joseph Carpenters" are Native Indian. Seems to be a popular name. I will keep my eyes open for Alfred for you. Good luck to you too. Let me know if you find him. Elaine

I have read that Charpentier was the French version of Carpenter. The family first came to the US or Canada using Charpentier and changed it to Carpenter. I do not remember exactly where I read that, but I suggest you google "Charpentier family" or "Carpenter Family" and see what you get. And if you run into Alfred Carpenter born abt 1819 in NY, please let me know. There was a huge number of Carpenters in Herkimer Co Ny abt 1800.
Best of luck, Judy

I am trying to determine the nationality of Joseph Charpentier (Carpenter). He was born around 1828 and married Margaret Hare. Josephine (their daughter) who was born in Ontario in 1852, married James Edward Morton in Virginia Ontario (near Sutton)in 1868. One of their sons was Wilfred Morton.
