I saw the pension record. Reg No 8074. Then I found the Medal Card: Kings Own Scottish Borderers.
Could he have been Scottish?
Another strange one. I happened to see a service record for a Leonard Charlton, b 1881. Maybe a brother, I thought. Again: father Joseph. The fathers address in Leeds. Looking for census records: no Leonard with a father Joseph!

I have the family tree for Thomas Dixon Charlton. In that tree is a Vincent Charlton b 1881. I believe he is the father of Vincent Proctor Charlton. Vincent had a sister, Ann. She marries my great grand father William - yes - two Charltons marry. In their family is Alfred (Peter), my grandfather. He is a cousin of Vincent Proctor Charlton. Vincent has a sister, Isabella, who does marry a MacLeod. In fact on of the offspring is a pilot who was killed in WW2. There is a stained glass memorial in a church in Adelaide - near the junction of Portrush Rd and the South Eastern Freeway put there, by his mother. I too have been to Pear Tree farm and other farms associated with the Charltons in England, but I would be very interested in seeing pictures of Pear Tree farm that you have. Can you scan them and email them to me? I am going over there again on Saturday to find out a little more of my ancestors. I'll be visiting a few more cemeteries looking for headstones, but I also believ!
e not too many Charltons put headstones on the graves - but I will do my best.

Hi all,
I have been researching for years the Charlton family tree & still am. Was lucky enough to go to england a few years back with my dad, mum & aunty who are both charltons from streaky bay. We didnt find any charltons unfortunately, we visited lots of graves ( took lots of photos) & visited pear tree farm & some old locals in a buff lodge type venue who knew of the charltons.
My Great uncle Tom (streaky bay) told me a fair bit about his family in england & their trip out to australia on the Otranto from Tilbery Docks to Port Adelaide. I think the Ann you mention may be Ann Eliza Marshall although I need to get back into my books again to refreshen the memory! I also think there was an Isabella from this marriage who married William John mcLeod(again i need to re check first name) & she is buried in west terrace cemetery in adelaide.
John mcleod her son contacted me quite a few years ago from perth& visited me & gave me photos from pear tree farm.

He was a native of Cumberland County, Virginia and a patriot of the Revolutionary War, in which memorable contest he served two terms. He was at the Battle of Guilford NC and at the surrender of Cornwallis at Yorktown VA He lived respected and died lamented by his numerous descendants and relatives." He married Ann M. Lee (b.March 4, 1763-died May 23 1833 age 70.
