Hi John,
My Ancestry subscription has lapsed, so I can't reply directly.
Sounds very much as though you're a 2nd cousin of my father. Great to hear from you!
Could you send me an email at pjcharltonzzz(a)zzzgooglemail.com (without the hopefully spam-preventing zzz's)?

Hi: I am a direct descendant of the Charlton line you mention. James Charlton was my great grandfather and Hewnry Charlton (cordwainer in 1841 census) would have been my great, great grandfsather. Isabella Broom is on the line I traced using thre census and birth records. My grandfather was Frederick Charlton, brother, I think of Robinson Charlton. They werfe listed as living at Brandling Street in the 1901 census - i think the house still stands. My father was Edward Charlton, son of Frederick who was born in 1923. I was brought up in Sunderland in Monkwearmouth for some of thst time. Frederick died in the mid 1950s. I do not know much about the Charltons as my parents died when I was a child and so little informsation was passed on.
If you have any questions I will be happy to answer if I can.
