Thomas and Ann both died in 1861. It could have been the result of an accident or infectious disease, I would think.

this is more and more complicated. Your G Grandmother is the niece of Ann Charlton, who had a twin Elisabeth, both b.1851 at Bothal or Old Moor, NBLD, daughters of Thomas and Ann? I have them all on the 1851 census living at home with their parents and brothers. Then I could only find them in 1861 living with an Aunt and Uncle at Newborough? What happened to their parents, does anyone have any idea? I am descended from George Charlton (1848) their older brother.

Ok, I'll throw a spanner in the works perhaps - there was another lot of Charlton's who migrated from Sunderland, Northern England in approx 1902? Coming to AUSTRALIA and settling in Footscray, Melbourne. I think a few of the children died on the boat. (Two girls perhaps,)my grandfather Robert Frederick Charlton and his siblings and his parents. My great grand fathers name was Frederick Charlton, my great granmothers name was Isabella Charlton nee Ragg!

Bee,
it's the next generation up. The Ann Charlton that marries William Charlton is John Charlton (b 1842)'s daughter, and Vincent Proctor's mother, so I think that Ann is therefor the niece of the twin Ann.
Also I believe that William's brother Peter married a Bowman and hence are related through the Richardsons back to Bee's Charltons and my Taylors/Charltons.

was your Ann born in 1851 and had a twin Elizabeth, daughters of Thomas and Ann Charlton? If so, in the 1881 census both twins were living at Tongue Burns, next farm to Pear Tree, with their brother Thomas and a nephew (1 yr. old)also named Thomas.
I think I am the person (in Australia) who is researching the Charlton's from the Robinson/Richardson side, unless there is another one.

The confusion about the Charlton's in this area is that there are at least two families of them living on the same farms. The Ann Charlton on your side of the family marries my great grandfather, William, and then both side continue to use similar names. My father had an uncle Vincent Proctor - a child of William and Ann. Vincent Proctor had a son - Vincent! He also had a daughter Margaret. Vincent Proctor also had a sister Margaret! And both families appear to be living on the same farms and rotating around on different farms. And both families are using the same names.I have birth, death and marriage certificates and census and migration details of my lot, so I know I am right with what I have got so far. It would have been so much easier if they had used different names!
