Bee, as discussed, I also agree with that, but will have to take out an extended subscription to keep digging - 1. to revisit some of the branches I've since discovered and 2. now that we are getting to WW1.
For interest, I was doing some more research, and Harry Richardson (my G. Grandfather, who married Elizabeth Ann Bowman in 1872), also had EA's sister Sarah Jane, married on the same page of the Marriage Reg, to another (unconnected) Charlton:
Marriages Sep 1899 (>99%)
Bowman Elizabeth Ann Gateshead 10a 1460
Bowman Sarah Jane Gateshead 10a 1460
Charlton Peter Gateshead 10a 1460
Richardson Henry Gateshead 10a 1460
Also, winding back, I think some of you can trace roots to Henry Stobbs (b.1815) who was killed in a mine accident (at least 6-8 occurances of which I have in my tree)

There would seem to be 2 families of Charltons on Pear Tree Farm. What adds to the confusion is that they use the same Christian names. I have my side correct, so far. Ann or as she is sometimes called - Annie, is my great grandmother. She marries William in 1888 or 9. I have ordered a copy of their wedding certificate, and so may find a few more details soon. Ann dies on Pear Tree Farm in 1911. My grandfather's sister is born there too, and when my grandfather is married he states he is living on the farm. My uncle is also born there. I have just discovered my grandfather had an older brother John. None of the family have ever heard of him before. It is possible he went to the First World War and was killed, but he will need a bit of research to be done on him. My grandfather's other brother, Vincent migrated to Australia soon after his father (William) dies in 1940.

Could the John you are looking for be John Charlton c.1842 son of Thomas Charlton c.1816? John married Elzabeth Proctor and they had 7 children, the youngest Vincent c.1881.

Ok, I agree. I think your previous post said Sarah Jane Hogg was married prior to 1900, but I agree with the 1902 marriage.
The post earlier about Ann and William Charlton, posted by Charltonian, I believe is correct. Ann Charlton (b. c1870) is the sister of Thomas Charlton (b 1864 - my dad's cousin's grandfather), who married an unrelated William Charlton.
So from 1891 - 1911 in some way or another.
Ann, John Clark, Vincent Proctor (brothers/sisters) were all on Pear Tree, whilst the other brother Thomas flitted back and forward between Newbiggin on Sea and Chopwell.
A generation further back were also present at Tongue Burns farm (Ann) and brother John on Pear Tree.
My dad's cousin remembers his father collecting rent from Pear Tree/Blackhall Mill area.
John Charlton to whom you refer to was born in Bothal, Northumberland in c1842. On two separate occasions my dad's cousin and his brother have parted with cash to a geneologist who have not made it further back than John.
I think I and others have had trouble tracking his death/whereabouts, due to similar names, and what looks like the family all going their own ways.
There are some nice Charlton gravestones in the Bothal churchyard but impossible to tell if they are related.

Vincent Proctor Charlton married Sarah Jane Hogg 22/11/1902. They had a family at Black Hall Mill including a Proctor Vincent Charlton. Vincent Proctor Snr. migrated to South Australia in 1926 with family including my father George Leslie Charlton.
I can't get any further info on John Charlton who was Vincent Proctors father. Black Hall Mill and Pear Tree Farm are common with my branch of the family. I have birth certificate re Vincent Proctor who was born 3rd Sept 1881 to John and Elizabeth nee Proctor, residence was Shire Moor, Whitley.

Something doesn't add up.
My research has Vincent Proctor Charlton (b. c1882).
In the 1901 census he was listed as was Sarah Jane Hogg as a servant.
According to FreeBMD a Sarah Jane Hogg was married in Dec 1902-ish (Gateshead 10a 1443), and not as the earlier post of 1899.
In 1911 there are married and living at Pear Tree Farm
Hmm - there's also a Vincent Charlton on Pear Tree Farm born 1902, who is from different Charltons - these are the ones I can't relate!
I'll keep digging

Have you moved on since a year ago?
My grandparents all lived in Chopwell c1911 - Taylors and Richardsons.
In addition to my own family tree, I've been researching the Charltons, and am in contact with dad's cousin (a Charlton) who was born and lived in Chopwell.
The Charltons are hard work, as over a 30 year period, they floated about in Pear Tree Farm, and Blackhall Farm, and whilst most of them are related, there is another Charlton who although on Pear Tree Farm, I have been unable to find a connection.
There's something fishy in the post so far as although many of the names are familiar to me some are not. I need to double check.
Also, I believe there is someone else in Australia researching the Charltons from the Robinson side.
