Hello All,
I hope you will take advantage of the three-day free access to the 1930 US
Census provided by Ancestry.com. Almost everyone will have a particular
interest in searching this census year -- whether it is for parents and
grandparents, or possibly the first available census which lists yourself!
Sorry I can't include a link to access the 1930 census, but go to the
Ancestry.com page and then follow the instructions given below from the Ancestry
Newsletter and you'll be on your way to locating your family records!
Best of luck,
LaRae, CHARLTON listmgr.

Free Three-Day Access to the 1930 US Federal Census
The launch of the every-name index marks the completion of the US Federal
Census Collection at Ancestry.com. The massive project took over 6.6 million
hours of labor and 21.9 billion keystrokes to manually enter the census names
into the database. 15,000 rolls of microfilm–thirteen million original census
images–were scanned and transcribed to complete the project.
To celebrate this milestone, Ancestry.com is offering free access to the
1930 US Federal Census for three days. Just visit Ancestry.com and click through
the census tour or click on one of the Census is Complete banners on the
site.
*Act fast. Free access to the 1930 US Census will expire soon. [through July]
The free period starts when you first access it. If you go to the
Ancestry.com homepage, you should see a window open up announcing the free three-day
access and allows you to Start Here. If you bypassed the page and went straight
to Ancestry.com, you can still access the free 1930 census through the
homepage.
In the upper right corner of the homepage, you should see a brown and orange
ad with a green button that says “Dive In.” Click on that and it will take
you through a presentation that you can click through by hitting “Continue.”
On that next page there is a green link to “Search Now.” That will open a
search box where you can search. When you find someone, click on that name
and on the next screen you will see include the index entry and an option (to
the right) to view the actual image.

Thanks for your reply. I'm just getting started with this line, so I don't have much yet. Since my last e-mail, I did find that he married Lucredia Anna (Lucrelion) Batton 25 Jun 1863 in Athens Co., Ohio. I'll keep looking. Thanks again.

Hi Tracey,
You are going to have to provide more information about Matthew's English background if you want to find out about his parents. For example, on the censuses that you do have, does it mention WHEREABOUTS in England he was born? Which town or County? And do you have his marriage certificate? That might tell us the name anjd profession/occupation of his English father, which again would be another clue to tracking down his British roots.
There will have been dozens of Matthew Charltons born in the U.K. in 1841 and you need more details to find out which one is yours.

Looking for the parents of Matthew Charlton. He was b. Abt 1840/1841 in England, d. Bef 1900 Census, prob. in Appoanoose Co., IA. I do not know when he came over here or if he came over here by himself or with his parents. He married Lucrelion (Lucretia Ann) Batton 25 Jun 1863 in Athens Co., OH. Lucretia was b. Abt 1844/45 in OH, d. 10 Mar 1924 in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake Co., UT. In the 1870 Census they are shown as living in Drakesville, Davis Co., IA with thier first 2 children born in OH, thier next 2 children born in IA, and their last 2 children born in IL (so from the time they married in 1863 until the 1870 Census, they lived in Ohio, Iowa, Illinois, then back to Iowa). In the 1880 Census they are in Centerville, Appanoose Co., IA. In the 1900 Census, only Lucretia is listed with 4 of her children, she is widowed. By the 1910 & 1920 Census, Lucretia is living in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Matthew Charlton and Lucretia Batton's children are:
Lee b. abt 1864/65 in OH
Thomas William b. abt 1868/69 in OH, d. 13 Oct 1929 in Salt Lake Co., UT
Nellie b. abt 1869 in IA
Marcus L b. abt 1873/74 in IA
Laura M b. abt 1875/76 in IL
Seth b. 5 Jan 1879 in IL, d. 3 Dec 1937 in Salt Lake Co., UT
According to the 1900 Census, Lucretia had a total of 8 children with 5 living at the time of the Census so there are 2 more that I do not have names for.
Any information on Lucretia Batton and Matthew Charlton would be great.
Thanks,
Tracy

Would whoever it was who had info on John Lynch Charlton please contact me at mic.bailey(a)worldnet.att.net? I have a very large database in which he appears. It's been a while since I've seen him and I failed to record sources for the information. And, it's very sketchy. I could use some help.
