Imogene -
Thank you for your very prompt reply. You have saved me from "wild goose chase" trying to make connection between your John and my James. I have found a James born to an Andrew and Mary CHARLTON in Indiana 1870 census. Will pursue that.
Lois

Lois, I have found lots of information on your James Charlton and Mary Passmore on Ancestry.Com, but I have not been able to connect it with the same family I am looking for. The son John married Elizabeth Hudson from Maryland. Her family was Henry Hudson, the explorer. Thanks for replying and good luck with your search. Imogene Charlton

I am interested in your John Charlton, because my
gggrandfather James (b. 1763) was living in Hamilton County, Ohio. He m. Mary Passmore there and they had a large family and some of their descendants still farm in that area.
James was awarded land in Ohio (signed by Pres. Monroe).
I know nothing about his pedigree and am hoping that we might have information that could be helpful to both of us.

Ms. I am new to this site (which is why I am responding to your query so much later). I decend from that line of Charltons. Thomas Charlton moved to Camden, South Carolina, participated in the Revolutionary War and died around 1795. His son, Thomas Usher Pulaski Charlton moved to Savanah, GA and was a prominent politician (part of Thomas Jefferson's political machine). He was the Solicitor-General for the Eastern District Court of Georgia as well as the Mayor of Savannah for number of terms. T.U.P.'s soon was named Thomas Jackson Charlton and was a doctor. Another son, Robert Milledge Charlton was a U.S. Senator. I have more inforation if you are interested. Tom Charlton.
