I received a copy of their marriage certificate (May 12, 1849) listing her father as John Charlton (joiner) and his as Walter Donaldson (husbandman). They were marrried in the parish of Earsdon, county of Northumberland, registration districk Tynemouth. Their residence at time of mariage was De Caval (or DeCanal or De Lanal) Colliery. Hope this provides a lead for you

More info, to check if this might be the one you are looking for: John Charlton born 1843 married Rebecca Christi (Christina?) Williams in 1976, one of their sons was Arthur Thomas (my grandfather) born 29/6/1887 who married Eva Ellen Martyn born 13/3/1892 in Tasmania.
I'm particularly interested in my grandfather's brothers and sisters if we are talking about the same family. If so and you have info on them, I'd be rapt
Regards
Lesley

If he went to Tasmania, he might be 'our convict'. I've seen records of a Charlton convict who left a wife and children (I think) in the UK when he was transported. If he's 'ours' I can get details of our family from his second marriage
My brother has quite a lot of info as well. He can't find any records of our convict's death but his record in gaol isn't flash and he may have died a vagrant.
Please email and we can discuss (with brother too)
I'm wondering if anyone can help me.
I'm looking for information on Edward Charlton. He died in Hexham parish, Northumberland in 1867, aged 46. In 1871 his widow Sarah and five children were living in Mickley Square, Northumberland and by 1881 they were living in Stanley, Co.Durham. The children were miners.
The children were John, Edward, George and Ann. The last child William Taylor Charlton was born in 1864 and christened in Corsenside Church, Northumberland.
Any help would be appreciated.
Eileen

Please could someone help me with my missing convict - James Charlton?
James was convicted of robbery in Aug 1810 and sentenced to death at the Newcastle Assizes, England. His sentence was commuted to transportation in 1811 but we have been unable to find any record of him after this, on the convict transportation registers 1787-1871 at the records office in Kew.
Yet in 1815 we have a document relating to his English wife, which states that she was 'a married woman;her husband transported.'
Any help with tracking him down would be appreciated.
Thanking you in advance.
Karen Charlton.
