My paternal grandmother was Martha Elizabeth CHARLTON and
b. 1854 in Butler Co., Ohio. father was Jesse Charlton and mother was Sarah Brenton. Jesse's family moved to Iowa about 1860.
The first CHARLTON I have was James CHARLTON, Sr. b 1763 in England?? He was awarded Government Land in Ohio in 1810. Was he a Rev. War Vet? He married Mary PASSMORE whose family is documented in "The Passmores in America: A Quaker Family through Six Generations" There must be a story with the War Vet and the Quaker girl!!
Please answer to my e-mail: lois1060(a)msn.com and let us see what we can share.

Hi Malcolm,
I notice that you have information regarding CHARLTONS from PONTELAND and I was wondering if you could help me.
Our ancestor JOHN CHARLTON was born between 1802-1805 in PONTELAND. His mother was called PRISCILLA CHARLTON but we do not know the first name of his father.
His wife died young and he lived in Corbridge with his sister ISABELLA CHARLTON. She was also born in Ponteland in 1820/21.
From the c1841, ’51 and ’61 we have found two other sisters:
MARY born c.1823 in ? and ANN born c. 1811 in ?
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.
Keren Charlton.

Any of you have CHARLTON during 1760's from Harrison, Hamilton County, Ohio??? Where were the Charlton originated from? According to my genealogy, it shows that many Charltons had migrated from Ohio going to (or through) Indiana, Illinois and finally Iowa. Does it match with yours? Contact me... Thanks!
FOLKS. I am still seeking info. on a John Charlton & wife Jane
Sanders....Also, does anyone have more info. on an Elijah Charlton, who
I think married a Fowler...Elijah had one dau. that married a
Holley...But can anyone tell me more.. I think he must be kin to my
Charlton bunch, too. He was also in Calloway Co.Ky. for a
time....Thanks, Judith
Actually, I have been in contact with Nancy. She and I have corresponded
several times on the family. Nancy has been of great help. I'm afraid that
I have less than you do, if you are working with Nancy.

Deana,
Is that your name? Thank you for the response!! We are thrilled to find
more cousins. I am copying my sisters, Lorita Willis Goza and Charlene
Willis Nix and another one of your cousins, Nancy Charlton. When you
respond please resond to all of us. Nancy and Charlene have all the details
so I'll let them do the primary correspondence with you and I'll just get
copies. Hopefully you have some of the family history prior to John M.
Charlton to add to our existing knowledge. And, hopefully you can help me
to post what we know to all the Charlton bulletin boards and chat rooms we
can find on the internet since that is the way to find more information.
Nancy is in the process of putting the family tree information on a web site
and hopefully sending information about all the children of each generation
to me.
I live in Kansas City, MO and work for IBM. Charlene lives in Minco, OK and
Lorita in Midwest City, OK. They are both retired. What is your situation
and what do you know about the family?
Jerry Willis

I am seekng a John Charlton who married a Jane Sanders, most likely in
Va.?? Two of their sons, that I knw of were born in Va....Some people
thinks Cumberland Co.VA,?? I don't know?? But apparently they MAT have
been in Sumner Co.TN., at least for a while..But I didn't find them, on
what limited access to census, that I have...Jane could have been Jane
Sanders-Charlton's middle name, and she may be listed with another
name??..I am guessing that my John Charltonmay have been born about late
1700's -to early 1800's?? But not sure there?? I am only going by the
birthdates of the two son, that I know of...There may have been more
children born before them??So John & Jane(Sanders) might possibly be
much older?? The two sons are James H. Charlton and Robert T.
Charlton...They both ended up in Calloway Co. Ky. & died there..They had
large families...There was also a Judah Charlton (male) who died in
Calloway Co. Ky. that we think may have been a brother to the others??
Can anyone help me. on this Charlton Family?? Maybe some ancestors of
other siblings?? Thanks, Judith

Hi all,
In the spirit of Halloween, October 31st, and All Souls Day, November 2nd,
for the next two weeks, please feel free to post burial dates and locations for
any ancestor or family member whose birth name or married name was CHARLTON.
If you'd like to take it a step further, include any off-the-wall tales
related to your family research. Have you solved a mystery or broken down a brick
wall with the help of a tombstone epitaph? Tell us about it! I love the poems
and messages found on gravestones....let us know if you've recorded a memorable
one.
Please be sure to change the subject line to the name of your ancestor.
This topic will be open until November 2nd, so join in and have some fun!
Thanks,
LaRae
