Aloha,
Recently I was given my original birth certificate. I was adopted at the age of four and am now 68. My original name was Loudon Charlton Page Bishop. I know that my mother was a Bishop and my father was a Page. Loudon was a family name and I assume that Charlton is also. I was born in Providence RI, November 17, 1933. I supposedly have other siblings born after I was adopted. If there is any information that you can give me in my quest for finding my family, I would appreciate it.
Thank you,
Joanne Loudon Bascom O'Donnell

Susan,
This is too weird. I married into the Galiczynski family. My maiden name is New. My husband's family comes from the Kensington/Fishtown area.
My research is on my materal grandmother's family. My grandmother was born Mgt. Charlton. I am researching her bloodline. The Galiczynski connection is only because I married one. I am trying to research the Charltons from Kensington. MOst of my connections have died and I am left to find the info for myself.
I plan on working on the Galiczynski line as well if you want to come together and work together on that.
Thanks for the note. Sue G.

My name is Susan (nee galiczynski) and my sister, Sharon, married Ed Charlton of Kensington (by port Richmond) Phila., PA. I am in disbelief that the names have merged elsewhere. Where are your Galiczynski's located and what does it have to do with the Charlton's of Philadelphia?

Unfortunately your Charlton name doesn't ring a bell with me, and I don't have a lot of information in the later years. But I will check to see what I have and if I do have anything I will surely send it along. Where was your Father born??..Most of my Charltons came from Md., Pa, and WVa.....Mary

I couldn't help notice the name Gofton Charlton. My grt, grt, grt, grt grandfather Edward Charlton married an Elizabeth Gofton on 6 September 1777 in Whickham Co Durham UK. She came from Tanfield County Durham. Any connection? There were also a number of Charlton Gofton marriages in Ponteland parish of Northumberland in the 1700s. I also have three Robert Charltons one born Coxlodge 1878?, another born 1882 in Chester le Street and one born 1907 in South Shields.

I have no specific knowledge on the Iowa Charltons. I'm from the Kentucky=Tennessee=Mississippi family dating from circa, 1840. There may be earlier relations based in Virginia. I'm told that there were five Charlton brothers who were medical doctors that went to Miss., then on to Tennessee and Ky. I know of two or possibly three of the brothers dating from the above era. What happened to the two others I haven't a clue. I have communicated with direct family cousins (3 or 4 times removed and then they were half cousins)who shared the same ggrandfather. None have been located in Iowa as yet. It would appear that the Charltons were a seemingly well=traveled lot who settled in the newly opened territories of the times. Once established they tended to be farmers. Agriculture was the big thing then. One has to look at the main transportation arteries of the time to determine possible avenues of relocation.
I always thought the Charlton name to be relatively rare. WRONG! They're everywhere.
Warm regards
Lee Charlton

Hi, I am new to this list and am wishing to find some Charlton family, although for some reason their names read Charlston in the list of trustees in the will of Murdoch McIvor of Waimate, New Zealand. I am sure they would be Charlton's because this is my grandfather's middle name, Duncan Charlton Livingston.
John C. Charlston, Shoemaker, Edinburgh, Scotland
James Charlston, Electrician, Edinburgh, Scotland
My mother corresponded with a Nan Wilson from Edinburgh for many years. Nan was born Agnes Charlton, I believe. Both she and her son, Gordon apparently passed away recently.
