Hi Karen, My name is Nancy Charlton and I am descendant of the Abraham in
Hickory Co. Mo. I have the court records of your Jesse, if you want to send
an address I will snail mail them to you. I have never been able to connect
your Jesse to my Charlton's. My old Abraham had a grandson named Jesse who
disappeared in 1880 is the reason I copied the court records on Jesse and
when I got home I realized it was the wrong person. My Abraham had an uncle
named James Charlton who was born in the late or middle 1700's in Cumberland
Co. Virginia, this James is the only one I have never been able to trace,
maybe there is a connection there. Would be interested in any think you have
or can find on your James Charlton

Hi!
I just joined this list a few weeks ago, and I wanted to introduce myself.
My great-great-grandfather was Jesse Charlton, born in Dearborn Co., Indiana
in 1848. According to family bible records, he was the illegitimate son of
Cecelia Shane and Jesse K. Charlton, who was already married to Sarah Ann
Brenton when he was born. Jesse, Sr. was the son of James Charlton
(1763-1827) and Mary Passmore (1788-1863). I have not been able to get any
further back than James Charlton, although I do have several more
generations back on the Passmore side. Jesse, Jr. was raised by his
grandparents and then seems to have followed his father to Iowa and then to
have come to Missouri. He joined the Civil War at the age of 16 in Harrison
Co., Missouri (this was also the first record of his using his father's
surname of Charlton rather than going by Jesse Shane). After the war, he
married Rebecca Hale in Harrison Co., and then moved with her family to
Hickory Co., Missouri, where he lived off and on, dying in 1917. (He spent
some years living apart from his wife in Oklahoma Indian Territory.) In
1916 he married a second time to Mary McCain in Camden Co., Missouri. He
was also charged with a serious felony in 1882, but was found not guilty. I
have not been able to connect him to the Abraham Charlton family who also
lived in Hickory Co. I am interested in finding independent proof that
Jesse, Sr. is the father of Jesse, Jr., as well as additional information on
Jesse, Sr.'s ancestors. I am very willing to share what I have, and I have
found a fair bit on Abraham Charlton's family in Hickory Co. as well as on
my own Charltons.

My Charlton family is found for the first time in 1754 Cumberland Co. Va.
Abraham Charlton served in the French and Indian wars, he died in 1791
leaving a will for children: John, David, James & Samuel, daughters Mary and
Sarah. The Charltons left Cumberland about 1814-1819. John & Ann going to
Davidson Co. Tenn., Samuel & David Charlton going to Sumner Co. Tenn. The
David Charlton offspring went to Marion Co. Illinois, Samuel's only son
Abraham (2) took his offspring to Illinois then Hickory Co. Missouri. I have
approx. 1,000 descendants of Abraham (1) in my database and would loved to
share information

Nancy,
I do not know who Robert J. parents were. Its says he was born in New
York. Also the Yonkers city directoryfor 1895-96 says that he was a blue
stone cutter. So I was thinking he was related to my family of James A.
Charlton who was also a stonecutter. There were two other families of
My family emigrated from Ireland in the mid nineteenth century. They
lived in Kingston, NY before moving to Yonkers. As far as I know there
is no New Jersey connection unless one of the children moved to New
Jersey later.

Hello,
I hope you will forgive this somewhat off-topic post, but I feel it is
important to share our experiences with others, and there is no better
combination than that of our two favorite pastimes: Genealogy and Computers!
I received a request (message given below) from a writer who is preparing an
article for a highly regarded family computing magazine. He asks to be put
in touch with anyone who will be helping to plan a family reunion this year,
or who has done so in the past, by using information available online.
I contacted the editor of FamilyPC, and was assured the article is being
written for the Travel section of their June 2000 publication.
If you would like to help Sam Perkins with his research for this article,
please contact him at perki72(a)ibm.net
The reunion site he refers to is on the Homespun mailing list webpage:
http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~homespun/
...and my newest, the Oklahoma Reunions page:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~okkingfi/family.htm
Again, I apologize for straying a bit this morning!
Thank you,
LaRae

For an article I'm writing FamilyPC magazine, (working title) "Summertime
Reunions Via the Web," to appear in June 2000, I'd like to be put in touch
with people you might be aware of who have used Homespun-Country Kitchen's
and/or other web or computer tools to plan family reunion vacations. The
article
will help our readers see what options are out there.
Thanks for any help you can provide.
